Great dining experience at Papadopoli, Sofitel Venezia
from LV2P8NT
My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Sofitel in Venice. We found the staff charming, attentive and informed. We arrived somewhat late in the afternoon and the concierge suggested that we seize the day and go to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. We returned with sore feet so we went back to the hotel early and spent some time with the charming bartender, Claudio, at the hotel bar. I had a grappa and my husband a Limoncello. We were discussing our dinner plans for the next night and serendipitously, Domenico, one of the two chefs of the...

A great stay
from Dave193
We stayed this month for a three night weekend break. Initially I was looking for a hotel more central and only booked here as nothing else was left. This was my second visit to Venice however should there be a third then I would definitely check this hotel first. It was cheaper than the central hotels. Arriving from Treviso airport the hotel is only yards from the bus terminal yet properly in Venice on a canal. It is no great distance from the train station. We arrived at 11am and went to the hotel to deposit our bags but were...

A Great Choice
from DenverMark
This is a late report, as we stayed at this hotel in May ’05 for one night before starting a cruise. We chose this hotel for the convenience to Piazzale Roma, as we were able to take a short taxi ride to get to the cruise ship for boarding. It was our first time in Venice, and we realized very quickly that there is no reason to stay closer to St. Mark’s square. Like others who have posted here, we truly enjoyed walking through the streets of Venice to the Rialto and St. Mark’s Square, or taking the vaporetto. We especially enjoyed...

Beautiful!!!
from tombob98
We have stayed at various Sofitels and are never disapointed. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and really nice to us. The room that we had (a junior suite) was superb and was cleaned twice a day. The Sofitel is in a ok position, it's not in the husstle and busstle of st Marks Square but it is well worth just taking a stroll there from the hotel (everything is sign posted) or even better jump onto the water bus and see all the buildings from the grand canal. Don't be put off using the water busses as they are so...

First-rate hotel with a wonderful staff
from YaacovG
I agree with the other reviewers who praise this hotel - part of a luxury chain, though not a luxury hotel itself. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and everything is maintained at a spotless level. The location, which at first seemed out of the way, turned out to be perfect - quiet and allowed me to see Venetian daily life (to the extent this is possible in Venice!) The breakfast buffet was terrific. But the best feature by far was the staff: everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. I had a rocky start in...

Good standards and a practical location
from Markski
With many reviews of Venice hotels indicating a degree of inconsistency even with premium accomodation, I decided to go with the 'safety' of an international chain. The location will suit some but not all. It is less than a five minute walk from the bus terminus / parking area which is very practical when it comes to carrying luggage and you see the normal everyday life of Venetians going about thier business. San Marco is an interesting 20min walk away, so if being in the thick of the prime tourist area is a preference then you would...

Solid value
from FF
Consistent high quality is what you would expect -- and will get -- from this hotel which is part of a huge French multinational hotel chain. If you can get also a competitive promotional rate through their website or otherwise (I did - 190 euro per night for two, buffet breakfast included, wasn't bad) you'll get even better value for your money. If I had to mention a flaw -- fortunately a very minor one -- the wall to wall carpeting in my room was excessively worn and should be replaced. All the rest was excellent.
Beautiful Hotel
from SusanM2004
We spent one night at the Sofitel following a cruise in Oct./05. It is a 4* hotel, nice lobby, beautiful dining area, and friendly staff. The room was very clean, nicely decorated, quiet (we faced the park at the back), had a large comfortable bed, and a very nice bathroom. The bedding and towels were an excellent quality. Enjoyed the breakfast which provided quite an assortment of items. It was a very short walk to Piazzale Roma to catch the Airport bus, and is close to the Grand Canal to catch a vaporetta to San Marco (although we...

Lovely hotel
from mairebeth
We stayed here for 1 night on way back to Treviso airport from Verona. I have to say the hotel is in a great location arriving in Venice either by train or bus. It is just a short walk over the bridge from the station. The hotel is beautiully decorated with nice dining room and bar area. Bar prices are very high so beware. The room was quite small as was the bathroom but we did not mind as we were only staying the night. overall the hotel is clean, staff were pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was just ok. One word of advice if going...

Perfect Location
from Lexy
We stayed at the Sofitel for 4 nights and were delighted with our choice, it was lovely to retreat to the hotel in this quiet location after the very busy areas of Rialto Bridge and St Marks Square, not that it it was difficult to escape the crowds once a few streets away from St Marks Square. The Rooms were spacious (we had booked Deluxe) and very clean with lots of nice touches like bathrobes, slippers and a wonderfully comfortable 6 foot bed. Breakfast was enjoyable, plenty of choice of meats, cheese, cereal and omelettes cooked to order...
