Oct 2004,

Just arrived home after our second visit to the PUERTO AZUL Apartments in Puerto Rico. We booked again within two days of returning home for October 05. As parents with an eight-year-old daughter we find this the perfect destination for a family holiday.
Plenty of activities available within the complex to keep her entertained and lots of children to play with. Swimming Pool is gorgeous, very clean and a lifeguard is on patrol during opening hours [9am to 7am]. Food in the pool bar is good and reasonably priced. Bar staff very friendly, Cheerful and helpful. The one bed roomed apartments are a fair size and very clean. The view we had from our very large balcony on both occasions have been breathtaking. Overlooking the sea, Puerto Rico Beach and harbour. It’s like looking at a picture post card. The views at night are just as amazing. You can’t beat sitting on the balcony after midnight with a nice glass of wine or your favourite tipple and taking in that view.
Places worth a visit are the Water Park at Maspalomas, Soux City[Great night out for all ages, very realistic wild west town including cowboys on horseback, cattle, saloon bar with real beer and country singer, kids and adults can get dressed up as cowboys and Indians. Lots of baddies lurking in the shadows for the kids to shoot with their cap guns, my little girl loved it when they fell to the ground pretending to be shot].Boat trip to Puerto Mogan [very pretty harbour, surrounded by small brightly painted houses, narrow streets full of flowers, market day on Fridays] Day trip on the Pirate Ship, food drink and entertainment for adults and children included. Amadores Beach [within walking distance lovely view on the way].
Our best meal was eaten at Bubbly,s in the large commercial centre [not Bubbles which sounds very similar and is on the bottom ] Bubbly's is on the second level on the left. You may pay a little more than some restaurants but its well worth a visit. The food is delicious and well presented and you will find the menu a little more creative than many, although there is something to suit all tastes. Try the homemade steak pie or Hickory chicken [Chicken stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon with a barbecue sauce. They also served salmon, quail, squid and have a vegetarian menu and a children’s menu.
Well what more can I say other than CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR.

I went to this hotel with my boyfriend last year and as we went for an allocation on arrival we were really shocked and thrilled to be put in this hotel.
The area was so lovely and even though we were a while away from the main bars and clubs we managed to go there every night taking a taxi for next to nothing.
Highly recommended.
The staff were great , it was a bit hot in the room though and the fans were very loud but we had a great time and will consider going back there again in the future.

Absolutely brilliant. We have just got home and can not wait to book again.
Rooms spotless although need modernisation could do with air conditioning as it was difficult to sleep with the heat. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and I am very fussy about that. Maid service 5 times a week.
All the staff and entertainers very friendly., and catered for all ages. A real family orientated hotel. We met several people who return year after year so that speaks for itself.
The food in and out of the hotel was excellent with lots of choices. We never had one bad meal. The Sunday roasts and toasties were a big hit too.
The pools were beautiful clean and just what was needed to cool you down.
We did have three cockroaches in our room, which freaked me out, but I went prepared and took a spray.
We have not stopped talking about this holiday and impressed other members of our family so next year there are a party of us going. Can’t wait! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel itself was pretty basic, could do with a good refurbishment. The fact that it was on top of a mountain made us feel slightly restricted. The main issue that we had with this hotel was the fact that there was 'NO AIR-CONDITIONING!' The room was unbearable even though we were provided with a fan. View from the room wasn’t very exciting. Could see the sea beyond another hotel, which was obstructing our view! Maids only bring fresh towels twice a week! Lack of security around apartments at night was a problem. Corridors were very dark and steep to get to our room - 4451.
Pool area was fine, two large pools and two baby pools. The pool bar was the best feature about the hotel. Lovely staff, good food and reasonably priced. Look out for Roney and Rudey the waiters...
Half-board, restaurant was too hot, very little choice and rolls from breakfast were once again served at dinner, feeling like bullets and tasting like bricks!
Airtours were good. Abi was very efficient and knew what she was talking about. Unless you enjoy joining in, are very loud and love taking part and being the centre of attention or possibly humiliation, be careful what trips you go on. Would not recommend the bar-crawl to Puerto Ingles. If you do go to Ingles, go alone of leave the group. Look out for Pacha. Bars and clubs don’t get busy until 12.00/1.00.
Apart from that had amazing weather. If you want to get away from England or aren’t used to the extravert personalities of northerners then trust me, live football commentary around the pool, 2- 4- 1 on beer and spirits and burnt peeling people covered in tattoos will, I gather not be your scene. Be careful where you book. If you can afford it, go 4-5 star. We will be!

Aug 2004, Miss C Hartill

In my opinion, this was the best holiday I have ever been on. The weather was fantastic - in the 100's almost every day and not one drop of rain in all the two weeks we were there.
The apartments were brilliant and the hotel itself was fantastic - very clean and the staff were great.
The pools were superb, the small one for the children was ideal and the others were very good also - they were just the right temperature for you to cool down in.
The only let down was that there was no air conditioning, just a fan but I found it easy enough to sleep as did my sister and mom and dad.
I’m glad we went self catering as those who went half board at the hotel said that they would definitely go back self catering.
The beaches were very clean although out of the two - Puerto Rico beach and Amadores I would definitely recommend Amadores. It is definitely the cleanest and the sea is crystal clear. The walk from the harbour to Amadores using the walkway by the coast is very beautiful and the scenery is magnificent so it’s a must for anyone who goes there.
The nightlife is lively in the shopping centre at the bottom but the Europe is more family orientated and quieter - both are full with very good bars and restaurants. I would recommend it to all as there is something for anyone. We are going back to spend Christmas at Puerto Azul so see you there!!

Absolutely loved this hotel. The staff are great, the facilities are fantastic and the entertainment had us laughing for ages!
We’ve since booked to go back next year with the whole family - that 16 of us in all!
Puerto rico itself is a beautiful resort with plenty to do and some amazing views and beaches. It is had to walk up and down that hill all day but taxis are soooooooo cheap who needs to walk! Food is varied and really tasty and I just can’t wait to return here

Overall I thought the holiday was excellent AGAIN.... everything was just as good as the last time I went except for the last day when packing I saw the biggest cockroach in my life lucky it was when I was on my way out the door to come home otherwise I would have had to move blocks....... and guess what I got all the way back over to England sat down with a cuppa and saw a even bigger cockroach run out from under my suitcase I am a little put off but you are going to get them everywhere you go. Other then that I recommend this aparthotel. The pool area is nice.... very hot... friendly staff although I do like the new finished hotel just opposite its beautiful the Gloria palace look it up that’s where ill be next. Make sure you request block 1 or 2 they have the best views over looking the beach.... MAGIC ...you’ll love it!!!

A fabulous holiday for two 40...

Feb 2004, Mrs P Swindells

A fabulous holiday for two 40 something women looking for an enjoyable late winter holiday in the sun. Puerto Azul Hotel is a family orientated hotel yet offered all we needed during our visit without our families. Amongst other things, good food, reasonable entertainment with excellent animation staff for the evenings we stayed on site. All staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms were clean with basic facilities (most useful having access to a fridge in the room). Some of the sea-facing views at the lower levels are hampered by the view of the back of other hotels, but not a problem if you're only using your room as a base. The pool area was kept spotless and always looked inviting. The large pool was exceptionally cold I have to admit, however, once in and under, it was most exhilarating. Getting around Puerto Rico is not a problem. If you don't fancy the 741 steps down to the beach and shopping areas,(we were told there were 741 but kept loosing count as we were distracted by the fab views), using public transport is cheap and cheerful. The Yo-Yo buses are regular and cost 80 cents each way and the taxis a mere 2 - 3 Euros. Even journeying around Gran Canaria by local bus is cheap - only 2 Euros to Playa d'Inglis (much cheaper than taxis or reps tours)
Puerto Rico is lively and fun, plenty to see, plenty to do with friendly competition between the "touts" who want you in their bars/clubs. Even haggling for goodies proved fun, the sellers expect it, so go for your lowest bid first and work up.
The beaches are clean and looked after. Certainly worth a stroll along the wall from one to the other, the views are again fabulous.
When we visit Puerto Rico again, and we will, we'll go self-catering as food is so cheap and plentiful and excellent quality. The locals and those who work both in the town and the hotels, certainly work hard at making you want to return.

Nice hotel / Staff friendly / nice pool area.{x2 heated & 1 fffrrrreeezzziiinnnggg} Only downside was the half board will definately go back as self catering, considering 90% british far too much continental breakfast, no english sausage or bacon, although strangely enough all english in the excellent pool bar...........you must have the sunday roast........see you in may

Jul 2003, Mrs A McFettridge

Arrived around 3am in the morning from Glasgow airport had to wait a while to register. On arriving at our room and in desperate need of a cup of tea we were surprised to find there wasn't a bottle of water in the fridge so had to wait till breakfast time for a drink. Over all the hotel was ok though if I went again I'd only go self catering as wasn't too impressed with the restaurant either plenty of choice if you like salads.

I went there with my girlfriend and loved it! That's why I'm going back in Feb 2004. Loved the bar by the pool and they had great bbq's with anything you wanted. The evening meal however, was not too clever.
The pool was lovely, the hotel itself was beautiful, the staff were lovely and I recommend it!
OAP's will struggle with the walking, as you are half way up the hill. If you want to go up you'll more than likely have to get a cab, and definetly to the bottom, where the main night life and attractions are!

Excellent place to stay. Friendly staff, child orientated. Apartments are basic but very clean, towels changed everyday. We liked these apartments so much we are going back in June 04. When you arrive, you will need to leave an imprint of your credit card or pay roughly 125 euros I think, breakage deposit. They do give you back your slip to destroy.
