Excellent Hotel
from KathyCSE
We stayed at the Metropole for two nights in April 2004. The holiday had started badly as we missed our flight and had to travel the following morning. We phoned the hotel at 5pm on the evening that we were due to arrive to be told that the hotel's cancellation policy dictated that 48 hours notice of cancellation was required but the manager would 'see what he could do'. When we came to pay the bill at the end of the stay, we discovered that we had not been charged for the first night which we thought was very benevolent of the hotel as we...

Unforgettable Carnevale!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I arrived via limousine watertaxi on my birthday for a 13-night stay, in January of 2002. It was our third time in our favourite Venice and our first Carnival there. I had called at least 20 hotels before I finally called the Metropole. I was tired of being ripped off by offers of exorbitant prices; after all, it is the most expensive time of the year to go there (worth every penny) but two weeks merited some consideration. The written confirmation by the Metropole manager expressed they were looking not only for customers,...

Need some renovation
from A TripAdvisor Member
Location was excellent. I stayed with my family in two different rooms in this hotel. One was a very beautiful room with renovated bathroom, but the other room was a old and not nice room with tiny unrenovated bathroom which was dissapoining. Also, it would been nice to have inter-connecting rooms since we were family. If you are going to stay this hotel, make sure you will have a nice room.
Christmas at the Metrpole was a delight!
from A TripAdvisor Member
On January 1, 2004, my husband and I returned from a ten day trip to Venice where we stayed at the beautiful Metropole Hotel. We received a warm welcome from the staff at the front desk on arrival and were delighted to find our spacious room furnished with beautiful antiques. A basket of fruit, box of biscuits from Burano and special bath salts were lovely extras that greeted us in the room. The sheets on the bed were exceptional luxury quality percale and were changed every day. The maid came back every evening to freshen up the room...

Great location with its own boat dock
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed 3 nights -- arrived 11/09/03. The attached boat dock was greatly appreciated when we arrived on a cold, wet night and were taken from the train direclty to the hotel. (Many people have to drag luggage to the hotels not on the canal.) Metropole is located near St. Marks' Square. The hotel is very old and the room was small, but adequate. The headboard was a lovely antique one and there were other antiques in the room. The newly done washroom was large and beautiful. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. There is a new...

Beautiful Hotel, BUT the Staff Ruins the Experience - AVOID
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon. Venice was our 3rd Italian city and 3rd "first class" hotel. Unfortunately, poor staff can really ruin your stay here. First the good: Great location along the canal front. Within walking distance to St. Mark's and excellent shopping. The hotel decor is first rate. You get a warm, soothing feel when you first enter in the lobby. Furniture and fabrics are dark with rich colors. Rooms are clean with the same motif. If you're lucky enough to get a room along the side canal, you'll look out...

Disappointing
from A TripAdvisor Member
We choose the Metropole partly due to the reviews read here and we had high expectations; also we arrived here after our stays in Rome and Florence at excellent hotels (Dei Mellini and Degli Orafi, respectively). However, we were bitterly disappointed. The hotel is very nice and location is superb, but it was the human factor that disappointed us. We had booked a standard double room and we were given a room that seemed to us rather small, but we thought maybe standard rooms were not so big in this hotel. Then we checked the emergency map...

Enchanting!
from L.A.Curlygirl
We arrived via water taxi (70 euros, a bit expensive). We just got back from the trip and it was cold and windy in Venice. There were 4 adults and one 3 year old in our group. The hotel was perfect. We had a suite with an adjoining double room (#337 and 339). Beautiful rooms with a great bath in the suite #337. We had a view of the gardens below. No canal view from this room. The staff was polite and informative. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was wonderful. The ambiance is very Venitian and cozy. Breakfast is great and is...

Luxury - in the World's greatest city
from A TripAdvisor Member
We moved to the Metropole after a night in another hotel. We felt we needed a little pampering, and we wanted to be in the center of all the action. The Metropole is just a short walk from Saint Mark's Square. We didn't arrive by boat, but if you do they have their own entrance right on the Canal. The Metropole is a great Hotel, well decorated with hundreds of antiques and tasteful accoutrements. When I go back to Italy we will spend a lot more time in Venice and the Metropole is where I want to be! Highly recommended.
Don't miss this enchanting hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Let me first start by saying that if your going to Venice, it would be a shame to miss out on this lovely, romantic hotel that is only surpassed by its service. It is just steps away from Saint Mark Square and can be accessed directly by the water taxi or you can take the water bus (much cheaper) to a stop that is only a short walk. The Metropole appears to be less than a 4-Star hotel from the outside, however, once you step inside you will immediately know that you've chosen wisely. The antique and silver decor creates a cozy and romantic...
