This is really an annex to the much posher Canifor, but marketed separately possibly to offer cheaper accommodation without upsetting those that have paid more for the main hotel. The restaurant and bar are shared, as is the entrance - the Dorirose lobby is more like a back door to the complex and only open during working hours. It is an older hotel, but the rooms are clean, spacious and functional - my room had a decent, well equipped cooking area.
There was also a nice sea view from each of the two balconies. Out of season, it would be an ideal base for a cheap break - there are supermarkets, restaurants and pubs on the doorstep but it is relatively quiet (Qawra shuts early) and the bus station is only a few minutes walk away, with connections to all parts of the island. Qawra however was a disappointment - 'heaven's waiting room' comes to mind, but if you are in your fifties it is a chance to feel young again as almost everyone is your senior. Qawra and Bugibba are joined at the hip, the brasher resort is only 10 mins shuffle away - think karaoke bars, bingo, McDs and Watney's Red Barrel.
Also there are no beaches - swimming is from the rocks. (On a positive note, the corner kebab shop on Tourist Street opposite the bus station served seriously good chicken and lamb kebabs - well worth a visit.) If you're looking for decent restaurants and clubs, St Julian's is maybe 20 mins away and plays Ibiza to Bugibba's Benidorm and Qawra's Menorca and given the choice would probably be a better place to stay.
That said, the Dorirose offers good value for money if as likely you haven't paid that much, and with an easily available cheap hire car or even on the frequent buses the remoteness needn't be a problem - no trip on Malta can be more than 20 miles!
