Novotel Paris Bagnolet Hotel Reviews

8 / 10
Nov 2005, Miss L McHugh

The room was big and very clean and had a fridge. The bathroom was cleaned everyday. The hairdryer in the bathroom seemed to only have one setting which was cold. Not really within walking distance of Paris centre, but right beside a metro station to take you there. There... more

Good Hotel on Outskirts
4 of us from Jersey UK stayed here for two nights. One double room that contained a sofa/bed that easily would have taken 2 extra at a pinch and two singles in another room in a lower location at the back with no view. View across the city to Eiffel Tower from Double room. . Clean rooms. Both non-smoking. . Plenty of space. . Friendly staff . Pillows Foam, Beds Foam. . Safes in room. . Breakfast is limited but sufficient. . TV only shows 2 UK channels BBC 24 and Sky news. . Parking is expensive at 30 Euros for 2 days under the Hotel but at least it is secure. . Train station just around corner. Last on line so no problem as to where to get off. 15/20 mins getting into the heart of Paris but the Metro is lovely to travel on compared to the London Underground. Buy 10 tickets each time as it saves hassle. You just use each ticket once only. . Got stuck in lift due to overweight Swedes. The lift closed and refused to budge. Problem resolved in 15mins so no big deal. We would try Novotel again but maybe the one at Les Halle. A little pricey but you get what you expect .You can get good deals over the net. In fact, on the return we stayed at Novotel in Chartres which was equally as good.
Good value for families
Nice clean, modern, quiet, air conditioned hotel with decent size rooms for a family of 4. Large comfy bed plus a bed/chesterfield. I booked directly over the internet on the Novotel site and got the room for 90 euro per night including breakfast for 4. Kids up to 15 stay free. The breakfast buffet is good but very busy. Reception staff speak english and are helpful. The kids meals are a good value at the restaurant but it is fairly expensive for adults and drinks (8 euro for a pint of beer!). Easy walking distance from the Bagnolet metro station and the National Express bus station and there is also a mall nearby with about 20 stores, a few restaurants and a very large grocery store. The grocery store is a great place to get your wine, cheeze, bread, etc. at good prices. We arrived from London on the National Express bus, grabbed our luggage and walked approximately 1 block to the Hotel - no problem as long as you don't have too much luggage. It is approximately a 25 minute tube ride to downtown Paris and you will likely have to change tubes depending on where you are headed. Avoid the tubes around 5pm they are very busy,
good rooms, good breakfast
we stayed here as a part of our europe tour and found the rooms to be clean and good hotel. its so big looks like a convention centre! nice lobby as well. rooms were manageable for 2 nights. brkfast was pretty good as well. cant comment on transport since we had our own tour bus taking us around.but wud like to mention here please do not waste your money on the lido show, sooo over rated and not worth any money at all.pathetic performance , and to top it off it was in french so couldnt understand anything!!
Bad Hotel in a bad part of Paris
I stayed here for a science conference. During my almost two week stay in Paris, this hotel was the most expensive. It is easy to get to because it is at the east end of the metro line 3. However, it is not safe to walk outside at night and there is nothing to see in the area except the underpass of a highway. Like all expensive hotels, you have to pay for internet access. However, all the guests in the hotel were complaining that the WiFi signal was so weak in the rooms that you would continually lose your connection and then you have to login all over again, which is how I spent most of my 3 h that I purchased for $14 to access the internet. The room was large which was nice. I had a bed and a sofa. When I complained about the internet to the manager, she said that she would call me back and never did. The hotel bar is very expensive with drinks going for about 10e, they know that the guests are held captive, I suppose. When you check out, if you forget to ask for a receipt they will not give you one. They did fax me one very quickly after I returned back to the states.
Great service for groups
I was in october 2005 with a group from Chile in Novotel Porte de Bagnolet by second time. Always I feel the staff is very helpful, professional and warm. The rooms are spaciously, clean and cosy. Breakfast is very basic, but normal for tourist class hotel. I think that it could be richer in not expensive think like french croissants, yogurt may be, but I insist, it's a tourist class hotel. The lobby is always full with groups, many arriving and others leaving, but thats is the spirit of tourism. I consider it's a very good option for travelers, wich want to know Paris and sleep in a good and not expensive hotel. Metro is nearby, there is also a shopping mall with fast food restaurants, supemarket, and you can take the metro direct to the Opera, and reach it in no ore that 20 min.
Good hotel
If you don't like a low-budget hotel this is a good alternative. For a few euro's more you can stay in a stressless atmosphere. It's no problem if you travel by car, because there is a safe indoor parking ( €16.00 for 24 hours). The metro is not far ( 200 m.)and there is a shoppingmall near the metrostation ( closed on sundays). In the hotel there are large groups of Asian tourists. The ambiance in the hotel is relaxed and the rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast( €13.00 p.p.) is not included. If you wish a middle-class hotel near the peripherique, this is a good choice.
Decent hotel
This is the second time I've stayed in this hotel in 18 months and would like to make a post in favour of it. First of all understand its a Novotel with over 600 rooms so its going to be busy and its not going to have the charm of a city centre olde worlde hotel. What you get is a decent sized room with a comfortable bed and adequately sized bathroom with a separate WC. The hotel is located just off the peripherique which according to the Parisiennes makes it outside Paris. It is 5 minutes walk from Galieni Metro station on Line 3 which will take you to Opera in about 20 minutes. There is also a well served bus station adjacent to the Metro station. A cab ride out of hours from eg Rue Rivoli is about 17 Euros. There is a shopping centre next to the station with a variety of food outlets including a branch of Paul (the patisserie). There is also a large Auchan supermarket for those of you wanting to stock up on supplies for a day out. There are a few restaurants nearby but if you want a good selection you just jump on the metro and get off 2 stops down at Gambetta where you will find lots of brasseries, bistros and international restaurants. You will in Avenue de Pyranees find a wonderful selection of French food shops and a street full of Parisiennes as opposed to tourists - it is one of my favourite streets in all of Paris. I agree that it is wonderful to step outside a hotel and see the Eiffel Tower - which isn't the case here -but if you like me would rather get a bargain and make your money go further then this is a good hotel.
Useless for student groups
I was one of five teachers leading a group of 45 international students (aged 15 - 17) on a tour of Belgium and Paris. This hotel was chosen for us by the tour operator. It is clean. We arrived in the evening and were required to pay a €900 deposit (€20/student) in case of damage. The students were tired, having spent all day travelling on a bus from Belgium, and the lobby staff insisted that we give them the name of each student who would be in each room. We then had to wait while all this information was typed into their system. This all took ages. Breakfast was apalling - hard rolls, cold croissants, limited jam, coffee (prepared in a soup pot) and orange juice. It could not have been more basic. The staff were unhelpful and at times obstructive. I saw one Japanese lady, who tried to take a bottle of water to her table, be stopped by one of the staff, and told simply to fill her glass. (The breakfast area was very quiet at the time.) One of our students wanted some hot water and was charged €1 by the restaurant staff. I reported an unlocked access door to live electrical equipment on our floor at about 11pm, and this was not attended to until 10:30pm the following evening, when workmen arrived noisily after our students had settled for the night. The location is not suitable for student groups, as it is surrounded by very busy roads on all sides, and is a very long walking distance from any significant attractions. Mr Bruyard, the General Manager, should take a close look at his hotel and try to make it just a little more welcoming to guests who ultimately pay his wages. There are now 50 individuals (from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, England, Scotland, France and Korea) who would find it difficult to recommend this hotel.
Good Value
I've lived in Paris for a year and have previewed many hotels. So I would think that I know what I'm talking about. I think this hotel is a great value. However, this hotel is not for everyone. If your the kind of person who wants to wake up and be right in the middle of the action and money is not a problem for you then the best hotel for you would be located in the 1st district (the heart of Paris). On the other hand if you are the type of person who wants good quality at a great price and don't mind a location that's 12 minuets from the action then this hotel is for you. The hotel was recently built less than 3 years ago, so the decor is new. The style of the rooms are not traditionally french but contemporary. I was suprised how stylish the rooms were. There are no great luxuries here but the way the designer played with simple fabrics and structrues will make you feel as though you got a great deal. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Paris, which means that you'll have to take the Metro to see and do anything. Taking the Metro, which is two blocks from the hotel, will get you to the heart of Paris in under 12 minuets. If your in Paris to see a lot and do a lot this is a good choice because you'll stay in a nice place that's not far from the action for a good price. Just keep in mind that the Metro stops running a little after 1am so if you find yourself partying til' 3am there's a night bus that run's all night or you can take a taxi for about 12-20 euro's, depending where you leave from.
Only good to sleep at night...
This hotel was pre-selected as part of a 5 country Europe tour I went on. I had no choice in the matter. The hotel lobby was busy with guests having coffee. It was the busiest out of the 5 hotels I stayed at. As you enter the lobby, there was a Playstation/arcade game to the left. The game was soccer but it was free. There was a business center in the back left corner that I was able to use for free. There was a sign in French. It appears that it may have cost money but no one was there so I was able to use it for quick research of Paris. The tour had a continental breakfast included each morning. We had a meal voucher we had to give a staff person each morning on the 1st floor. Breakfast began at 7am and we came late on the first day to find that there were croissants, rolls, apples, orange juice and coffee. We came right at 7am the next day to find grapes, kiwi and oranges. There were bottled water. This hotels appear to cater to a lot of tour groups as there were a lot of Asian groups there. One man tried to refill his water bottle with Perrier and was scolded by the waitress. This hotel is located on the outer border of Paris and so if we wanted to do anything outside of our tour, we were warned that taxi fares were expensive. We did not have much free time to begin with so we do not know if taking the Metro would have been feasible.
