Hotel was very nice although Thomas Cook had requested us a smoking room before going, but we were given a non smoking room on arrival. We were able to change straight away though with the help of our porter. Breakfast was delicious. Hotel area was convenient with several... more

Great views, huge rooms, but that French service
from A TripAdvisor Member
Very comfortable location. The high floors allow for excellent views and quiet sleep. Huge rooms. But the concierge really needs to learn what it means to be a concierge in a 4 star hotel. E.g. nobody could give us a definite answer can we live our bags at Gare du Nord and they said they can't call. Or, for instance, when we asked where is THE place to try truffles, they were wondering and said well, perhaps this restaurant might have them. We open our CONCISE lonely planet and right there , a recommendation for a restaurant that does only truffles. If you are a concierge at a 4 star hotel and you don't know the basic Lonely Planet-type of things, and we are not even talking Michellin etc. , that makes you really lowsy at what you do.

Great hotel located 2 minutes from the major Montparnasse Metro. Huge lobby and nice clean rooms.

After buying our reservation through Hotwire, I was quite worried when I read some of the very negative postings. I want to reassure anybody else who is worried about staying here! We stayed February 22-24, 2005 and had a great time. Our nonsmoking room was on the 17th floor and for a European hotel room, very nice and more spacious than I expected, decorated relatively recently in Provence colors. The bathroom was very nice as well. The staff was terrific and all the concierges were very helpful and courteous. The convenience to the metro and the nearby large grocery store (Inno) were very helpful. But be sure to exit the metro at the right "sortie" as we wandered around a bit (over an hour!) not realizing that there are 6 exits at that metro stop. But once we found the hotel, it was quite easy. The only possible downside is that it is more an American style hotel (think Sheridan) - but for us, being a bit out of our element in a brand new country and not being French speakers, it felt more "home like". Travel guru Rick Steves recommends that upon arriving in Paris, one might consider going to the top of the Montparnesse Tower to get a visual orientation to the city. That tower is a very easy, quick walk to this hotel -and another plus is where ever you are (Arc di Triumph, etc.) you can spot the tower and orient to where the hotel is.
Excellent rooms, service , easy location

Think this hotel is definitely underrated on this site. Just spent 5 days (feb 9-14th) at the Le Meridien Montparnasse and was very satisfied. I took the Air France shuttle from Charles De Gaulle airport and was dropped off by the second stop across from my hotel! nice surprise. Lots of airline personnel stay at this hotel; probably why it has such good around the clock service. the air france shuttle costs about E12 but can save if you have round trip ticket. trip took about 50 minutes on weekday am and pm. Location of Le Meridien is slightly out of the Latin Quarter loop but gateway transportation center which is almost next to hotel allows for quick access to Paris' best. subway is easy to navigate though the Montparnasse Gare station is a bit of a maze. It's entry is below ground. Look for Montparnasse Towers (highest peak around where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch with unsurpassed views of Paris - wait for clear day, though). Across street is Innos (great food, clothing, etc store). The overall character of the surrounding area feels more urban rather than Paris elegant but I didn't spent much time there though you do get better prices on stuff in this area than closer to center. In booking rooms, be sure to get an upgrade to at least a DUO room. Mine was fantastic. Huge plasma screen, up to date data, telecom, very spacious, modern, comfortable. Large bath. good housekeeping. Not sure what the standard rooms look like but this hotel with standard room breakfast NOT included) is what you will be assigned if you book through Priceline (for a 4 star hotel in Latin Quarter areas). You might look at the hotel's website for special package deals. Breakfast buffet was very good with lots of croissants, cheeses, fruit, juices, cereal, hot fare, eggs, sausages, etc. Filled me up til night. In all, I would go back. It was a great stay.
Nice Location

We recently stay at this hotel from Feburary 10-20, 2005. It's a nice hotel and with friendly staff. We stayed on the 8th floor. It usually gets very noisy around 9:00 clock in the morning. The location of the hotel was near the metro, which made it easy for us to get around Paris. Air France will take you straight from the airport to the hotel, the cost is 12 Euro per person. The bus drop you right across from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for first time traveler to Paris.
Great Spot

We really enjoyed our few days in Paris' Le Meridien. The hotel is very conveniently located to Gare Montparnesse which makes it easy to use the metro and travel to airports by using the Air France express buses located across the street. The room was of standard Canadian size which is large by European standards. The service was above reproach and a single request of house keeping for plates and cutlery sent to the room was handled promptly. They even threw in a few things. We'll stay here again when required.
Montparnasse Meridian

Tremendous location next to Gare Montparnasse, and all the metro lines to anywhere in Paris. Eurostar and Gare du Nord only 20 minutes and Gare de l'Est even less. The restaurant is very pricey for dining and continental in room breakfast was, well ...we found a cafe next door. Priceline rooms from the hotel are two single beds, which could push together, or angle out. As for an upgrade and expect more than double price. We "bargained" (read tipped) for two queen beds in the unrenovated section. Really fun 1970's Paris with orange tiled bathroom, orange formica, and orange floor, modular pocket door, chrome and glass mirrors, and large, comfortable beds. Very spacious room, no high speed internet here! This fit our two plus child just fine with room to spare. Unusual in Paris. The room was very clean and spacious enough for "trois etoiles" but not four, yet lots of thrilling retro 70's charm "au bain." Priceline price was unbelievable in December 2004 at one plus two plus two, including the VAT/US$! Formidable!!
Meridian was atrocious!

We stayed here for one night in 2004, escaping our reservation that was for 7 nights. We were travelling with a small baby and repeatedly called to confirm there would be minibar fridge in the room and that it would be emptied to store baby milk and food. When we arrived we were horrified in general of the shabbiness and gargantuan conference centre-like atmosphere but things continued to get worse. The room was filthy, cigarette burns in the carpets and bedding - hair and mold in the bathroom. And of course, the minibar was like a vending machine, each time we tried to move something it charged automatically and didn't allow anything to be stored. The staff suggested we keep the baby food in the lobby fridge which was impossible and inconvenient. We asked to switch rooms, the one they showed us was equally dirty. The only saving grace is that the rooms were very large, but the price was ridiculous and the staff were completely uninterested in any kind of customer service. The Meridian chain and other travel writers should really investigate this place before posting any positive reviews
Good location

Hotel is ok...seems to be the local dorm for visiting airline personnel from most airlines...and at least the US Air employees we met seemed to really like it. No real surprises except that breakfast is not included. Generally, we were not disappointed because of the deal we got on Priceline. Hotel is clean, staff polite and responsive. Best part of this hotel is the location. It is right across from the Gare Montparnasse (train/metro) and the Air France airport shuttle bus stop (easy transit from/to airport for about $18 Euro r/t). It is also close to the Montparnasse restaurant area, one of my favorites. You can walk or take the metro to Vavin or Edgar Quinet stops. Favorites include Le Dome, Le Bistrot du Dome (great! owned by Le Dome family, and located around the corner from Le Dome), and the always fun...La Coupole restaurant. Inno market is also close (kind of like a Target but with a full grocery/liquor store in the basement). There are also several movie theaters around the corner for American and "foreign" films in French (VF) or English (VO).
Great stay!!

We stayed here a week over new years '05. The hotel was in good condition and the very large lobby was nice to relax and drink wine. The rooms were newly renovated and larger than the average Paris hotel. Location was fine since the metro was next door. It is more American syle and size. The staff was great and very helpful. Would stay here again when in Paris next.

Very nice hotel, although there was a little renovation in the lobby area this doesn't interfere with the hotel. It's location is good with the metro being just a few minutes down the road and if you don't mind a bit of a walk the Eiffel tower and other attractions are not... more
