Boria Bcn Reviews

Aug 2007, Mrs J D Jones

We went to Barcelona on our honeymoon and were not disappointed. I booked our apartment online at BCN Apartments which was an excellent decision as our apartment was amazing and the owner (sorry can't remember his name) was really helpful. Barcelona is a fantastic city... more

great location, great stay
If you are looking for a hotel with lots of ammenities like concierge, newspapers, forget it. this is NOT a Hotel. BUT it is better, more like a timeshare experience. When I read some negative reviews, I thought this place was going to be in a bad section. But truly, if you dont go around swinging your pocketbook around, you will be safe. Trust me, our famly with 2 young girls felt as safe as you can expect. We had the best access to all sorts of restaurants, Tapas bars, stores, you name it right there. This was the best area as far as traveling on foot that I have been to in Europe. We would look for the opera house, and it would be right in front our our noses. As for the hotel staff, they are very polite, but trust me, they dont know much but they will try and look it up for you. Someone was there 24 hours and all we had to do was ring and they opened immediatley. The only drawback was the noise outside at night, these people never sleep and there are no doors on the bedrooms if you need privacy. And There is no American news whatsoever. HMMM.
Great Way to Welcome the New Year
Brilliant. 5 friends and I spent New years in Barcelona. This Hotel was awesome!!! GREAT, I mean Great location. Walking distance to everywhere you need to be or main metro stations etc. More importantly the entire hotel was very modern with the best facilities. They don't tell you this but the hotel has a rooftop area where u can lounge around on the deck chairs and drink the night away. The Staff were extreamly friendly and spoke english. Would def. stay here again.
the WOW factor
Walked into our room at the Boria and were delighted. So much space in the suite and 2 bathrooms between three of us ladies. Small hitch in the beds, one kingsize and two smallish twin, so being there for 3 nights we each had a turn in the big one! Very friendly and helpful staff on reception who recommended Taller de Tapa, very close and excellent food and drink. They warned us about taking care in the area but we had no problems. Enjoyed the cava provided in the room!
Room to Stretch, Not for Improvement
The Hotel Boria is hands down the best place I've stayed in Barcelona, and I've tried several other well-rated hotels, such as the Neri. It's location in Born is practically unique. There really aren't any other hotels in the heart of Born that I know of. I booked accommodations for 2 and got a 2-bedroom loft with a full kitchen, gorgeous black granite bathroom, hip sitting area with couch and chairs, and a small balconey. The bed had a down comforter and everything was perfectly clean. I love the Hotel Boria. My only complaint is that there are no online reservations, and it can be pretty hard to book.
Great Hotel!
Stayed at this hotel for two nights during the first week of March 2006. Room and location were excellent. Room was very clean and quite large consisting of: lower level with large bedroom and sitting area, and upper level with small fully equipped kitchenette; large modern bathroom with shower and double sink; and smaller separate bedroom with two twin beds and flat panel TV. All appliances and HVAC worked well. Location is in the heart of Bari Gothic within easy walking distance to restaurants, Picasso Museum, shops, Las Ramblas and subway stop. Only drawbacks were as follows: hotel is a little difficult to find initially; staff is a little reserved; and there is quite a bit of street noise at night because of location. These small drawbacks were completely offset by outstanding accomodations and excellent location. Would definitely stay there again.
great surface - lacking the substance?
Rooms at the Boria, which are more like mini-flats, look absolutely gorgeous. But they are lacking some substance! Our first room was above the reception, but was very noisy. The charming receptionists moved us to the top floor which was much quieter but...the heating was broken. They called in an electrician who couldn't get it to work, and they actually gave us their own portable heater from the reception! This sums up the Boria - there are a lot of flaws, and you feel the staff are not getting the support they need, but they are trying their best! The rooms, the bathrooms, the receptionists were all great and I would recommend the Boria, but the owners need to iron out these problems (the hobs don't work either). The location is good, & this is ideal base for e.g. a young couple who enjoy glamorous surroundings, but aren't expecting to cook for themselves.
Good hotel
I went to Barcelona with my boyfriend in December 2005 and booked the Boria BCN hotel for four nights through one of the famous online travel websites (booking direct with the hotel is expensive). We loved it, it's a new hotel with apartments instead of rooms. Decor is very modern (flat screens/hi-fi/fast internet connection). We were greeted with a bottle of Cava, champagne and a box of fresh chocolates). The apartment had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. If you are travelling as: a family with children/couples/friends, beware: the apartment I was put in was all open space, no doors to the bedrooms, the only doors were the ones to the bathrooms. Also, if you want to eat your meal in your room, you can do heat it in the microwave but you cannot cook something on the stove as this doesn't work because they do not have anough Wattage. As we are a young couple we didn't mind all the above, we just appreciated coming back to a lovely room at the end of the day.
Lovely Hotel - Location disappointing
Recently stayed at the Boria for a New Year's break. The first room we were given was very noisy and we asked to be moved, which they willingly did (to the 4th floor). We were still woken several times a night in the early hours as revellers returned to their accommodation. Loved the hotel itself but the location felt a bit unsafe as it is down a side-street with little lighting. Unfortunately I had my handbag snatched just around the corner on a well-lit and reasonably busy main street. Would not stay at the Boria again but would choose somewhere more central such as the Majestic,Condes de Barcelona, H10 Catalunya Rambla or Le Meridien. Having said all that Barcelona is a fantastic destination and we will be returning later on in the year.
Great Room - Minor Issues
We recently stayed at Boria BCN for three nights and had an overall pleasant stay. The room itself was pretty impressive, large, modern and with nice amenities. Great location - a stumble away from the Metro, decent restaurants nearby, close to Born and Picasso Museum. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. Complimentary Champagne is a nice touch. Yes, it's a bit noisy. People wandering the streets late at night, early in the morning - screaming, talking loud and generally going about their business. We had some difficulty with the heating system, some areas would get unbearably hot while others were ultra-frigid. The good definitely outweighs the bad - I can't imagine being able to find a room this size for the price. We'd would definitely stay there again.
Lovely rooms but unbearably noisy..
I stayed here with two friends. We had a 2 bedroomed room which was very strangely designed in that we had a lounge area with no TV and two bedrooms ( with tv's ) but no doors! If you were going as two couples there would be no privacy between the rooms which i thought was very odd indeed. Surely if you had two bedrooms you would have at least one door separating the rooms??! The hotel was fabulous and in a good location. The room was very nicely decorated and the facilities were excellent. However the one major gripe I have aspart from the privacy issue, was that the noise was unbearable. I know soundproofing is somewhat lacking in most hotels in Barcelona but the noise experienced here was so bad you felt as if you were sleeping in the street. There was a constant stream of people passing by outside the room both externally and internally at night and the noise of this was unbearable. None of us managed to get any sleep in the 2 nights we were there which was a shame as other than that I would be happy to return. If they can get the soundproofing sorted out then I would recommend it!
