Centric Hostel

After arriving in Barcelona in February and staying at a different hostal for the first three days, Hostal Centric was a palace compared to the other hostals we looked into. It was clean, quiet, the balcony was great, not too much noise, the room was very well decorated, and the opportunity to have our own bathroom with a tub and working sink was a plus. I stayed in Hostal Centric last summer and it was ideal. Being a bit of a "Monica" I am happy to say that it was spotless. It was nice and central with comfy beds and nice cool air conditioning. Would recommend it to anyone who is looking for cheap and cheerful accomodation. The only negative thing I could say is that the staff were not really that helpful or welcoming.

The location of Hostal Centric is perfect. Room 201 was clean and located on the front side of the hotel. The bathroom (with toilet and shower) couldn't be smaller. We didn't sleep well because the hotel guests were very noisy; you can hear EVERYTHING through the extremely thin walls. We also woke up when people came down the stairs. We stayed in the hotel 13th till 17th of April 2004.

Hostal Centric was a great bargain- under 75 euros per night in January 2004! It was centrally located- 5 minute walk to the Ramblas and 1 minute to the metro. The surrounding area is relatively safe and near the university. The room was clean and had a nice, small balcony overlooking the street. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be the narrow and steep stairs. (There is no elevator.) I would recommend staying there if you are looking for a no-frills hotel. I would certainly stay there again!

I stayed here in August 2000... what a mistake! We arrived and were kept waiting for hours because the couple who occupied the room the night before were late to leave. One of the beds was broken, there were loose wires hanging from the walls, and the walls of the room were bare plaster. The only decorated part was the bathroom. There was no air conditioning, so at night it was a million degrees inside and hard to sleep. Opening the balcony doors (which opened onto the street) meant that you were subjected to severe noise. I stayed there in Dec. 2003. Room 204 a nice and clean on 2nd floor, small but for a single ok. Not too noisy even if You leave the window open. Relatively quite neighbourhood. AC OK. Ensuite bathroom (shower) newly equipped, almost perfectly clean. Smashing rate of € 57 incl tax etc. Staff very helpful and friendly, multilingual. Centrally located, central points of interest can be reached on foot. Two underground stations in 5 min. reach. Two breakfast shops nxt door(open from 6 a.m.). Round the corner an almost tourist free place... more

I don't recognise any of these previous comments. This hotel was a dump in Dec 2001 when I stayed there. The staff were rude, and the other residents were even worse! As soon as we arrived we were insulted by 2 paraletic Scots women. The room was reasonably clean, but tatty. The balcony door wouldn't shut properly and the floor was cracked. It was also extraordinarily noisy. OK I suppose for a cheap place to crash, but not a pleasant place to stay by any means!

I stayed at the Hostal Centric, Barcelona at the end of November. The Hostal was situated in an area within easy reach of the Metro system which made travelling around the city straight forward. It was clean throughout our visit and we experienced no problems whatsoever. Recomended.

We wanted a place well located where we could walk to the Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, catch the subway, and be very inexpensive, safe and clean. Hostal Centric was perfect. The people were friendly and the place was quiet. It is very well located, with lots of places to shop and eat. I was delighted with it.

I stayed here on my last trip to Barcelona. It is a small basic hotel about a 5 minute walk from the Ramblas. Considering all the other places we looked at were so expensive we were not expecting much from this hotel. We booked an upgraded room which came with en-suite bathroom and air-conditioning. The room was quite small but very clean and modern. The only slight problem with the hotel was the stairs - all the upgraded rooms were up a couple of flights of stairs and the stairs were very narrow and steep - not ideal for carrying... more
