Del Mar Hotel Reviews

Superb value for money. Barcelona is a dear city but we paid 80GBP per night here. The room was excellent with a nice LCD television. The room was modern and clean. Its a 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas. You will walk past the harbour and Columbus statue. A fantastic city and a very pleasant stay here. Breakfast is very good also.

Absolute Dump
Went to Barcelona for a long weekend with my boyfriend and were recommended this hotel by tourist information. Was expecting a basic but clean room and were very disappointed. The whole building is dark and dank and smells dirty. The room was disgusting and looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Neither of us dared walk on the floor in bare feet. The shared bathroom was grotesque, there was no lightbulb which was probably a blessing as it meant you couldn't see the full extent of the grime. We found the shower so revolting we didn't shower for the full 4 days we were there. The staff were rude and refused to answer any questions. The only time they showed any interest was when we were paying. The day we left checkout time was 12pm, we went out at 9am leaving our bags in the room when we returned at 11am they refused to let us in, told us it wasn't our room anymore. After an argument they allowed us into the room to get our bags but sent a member of staff to watch us and make sure we left. This hotel (if you can even call it a hotel) was the worst place I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. I want to warn anyone even considering staying there to keep away. It is a horrendous hovel and shouldn't be allowed to be in business.
great location rooms arent that bad!
The location of this hostel is brilliant, you're close to the gothic area, the sea and the ramblas! Okay the rooms werent brilliant but if you want a cheap stay in barcelona i would recommend it - get out and see the city instead of focusing on what your room is like!!!
Awful!
Definitely the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Wouldn't have felt safe if I was in an all female group. The hotel was really seventies, like something out of the film 'The Shining'. Fair enough the bathrooms were refurbished but this just showed up the rest of the hotel. Very gloomy. Had a power cut...receptionist said this was due to rain (nothing torrential, just your average shower!). Dodgy lift and dodgy locks which were hard to open too. We stayed the whole week- at least it was clean (and we had paid in full) but wouldn't go back again.
The pits!
I stayed here for a few nights in October. If you are used to hostels - you will probably like this place as you get your own bedroom and bathroom. However, if you are used to hotels, then it's a dump! There isn't even a dining area, the shower in my room didn't work too well and overall it is very dark and unwelcoming.
Don't Stay There!
I stayed here for 3 nights in Oct 2004 - I do not recommend it. The exterior is ugly and in need of decoration. The interior is equally drab. In my room I had no view from my window...other than walls! This 'hotel' has no dining area, no lounge/meeting place. No TV/Radio in the room. I found this on lastminute, where it was advertised as a 'hotel'. It is a hostel. Tip, 'hostal' in spain is hostel not hotel!!!
Woeful
This placed was advertised by lastminute as an hotel. It's not, it's a hostel and a pretty poor one at that. No electricity points in the room. Holes in the bathroom ceiling. Filthy radiators, cupboards and floor. Bare patches of plaster on the walls. Excessive traffic noise and, while we were there, building work every morning. We tried to book elsewhere but everywhere was full. No wonder they insist on payment up front. All in all the most basic, filthy hovel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. Avoid it at all costs.
Why the fuss???
If I had believed everything I read in the reviews here I would have turned away as soon as I arrived at the cramped reception. Sure the hotel is old, could have most probably done with a new lick of paint, the road outside noisy but there again what roads in Barcelona aren't? The rooms were clean, didn't smell, towels changed regularly and the staff friendly. If I had paid £200 a night I would have been desperately disappointed but I didn't. What I got was somewhere clean to sleep at night that wasn't far from La Rambla and right alongside the Port. Excellent value for money.
noisiest roads in the world made sleeping without ac impossible
Mum and I came for a week last summer-we had a hard time finding the hotel because we had been given a different address from the one it is known by. The room was not bad- except for the stuffiness when we closed the window. The hotel has no air conditioning and the noise in the square outside all night long (do the Spaniards empty dustbins at three in the morning every day?) Breakfast across several roads was not good- the worst coffee we ever almost drank! The mixed pineapple and orange juice was tepid, and may have started off life in separate jugs. The man at reception was pleasant- sold us cold water to drink when we arrived late at night in a heatwave. if you do choose to stay here (hotel rating 2 stars would never be accepted here in england) bring ear plugs and a fan.
Could be worse..but
We were here with my husband for a week.If they hadn`t had quite new toilet and bath,we would have turned away..People say here,it was clean?I think it was dirty. We cleaned a little, and laughed to the room, but surely we wouldn`t come here again, even if it was cheap. In Finland, they say we have expensive hotels, but by the same price, you can get a really nice hotelroom in Helsinki and with wonderfull breakfast! We think, that in Finland you couldn`t even have this dirty hotel.healthypeople would have shut it down.By the way, there was terrible noise early every morning, some thrilling and so on.I think there`s some kind of workshop there. p.s.We allways use 1 or 2 star hotels uproad,so we are not use to luxorous hotels, but this was worse we`ve been.(Even if the staff was o.k.)
OK
I read many of the previous reviews from this site, and was a little worried about going. But my worries were dismissed when I got to the hotel. It is a cheap hotel and for that the rooms are basic, but they are fine, if you want somewhere to sleep at night, and somewhere to wash, it's location is great, and you will pay double for other hotel just round the corner.
