This was one of my best holidays at...
1 / 10
Feb 2004, Ms J James

This was one of my best holidays at one of the most awful hotels!
I booked this at the last minute for a fortnight last 2 weeks February 2004.
Good flight if travelling alone contact La Mar mini bus for transfer to hotel 22E contrast to taxi 40-45 E, you can also book them for return, you will find them as you arrive displaying a placard or see their mini bus outside.
I managed to book a bus transfer for the return at 15E a friend I met on holiday actually used this service and it was so unreliable that she missed her flight and basically Sun Med did not care less and were really quite rude and tried to blame the customer who fortunately had independent witnesses who were prepared to confirm it was Sun Meds fault it was a bit ugly and very unnecessary so you have been warned.
Arrived at hotel had to wait 1.5 hours for room to be ready which seemed about average, eventually when I got to my room which I paid a huge supplement for as a single traveller no lock on door, no safe. It took about 4 hours to be sorted.
The shower was a nightmare it just flooded everywhere all the bathroom and the bedroom as there was no proper tray, the manager promised to get it sorted but
I will never know.
The Restaurant huge tip, don’t go in the food is diabolical. Eating out in resort
Others recommend Sunflowers but we did not eat there but others rate it highly.
Barcelo Hotel up the hill amazing food, huge buffet, I think around 12E for dinner and 6E for breakfast.
Thai Chinese just up the road great place to eat, ate there several times always had the special 6E well recommended.
Pizza/Steak bar 1 or 2 doors down from Thai great food.
The Bar/Restaurant just down from Pilgrims Bar cant remember its name it’s a long name on a beige sign with black or brown writing I think it’s a German name (it has high beer kegs for table in the centre of the bar) This bar does excellent late night snacks.
Don’t bother Taurus Steak Bar and the Italian next to Pilgrims Bar not good food I was ill for 1 day after Taurus!
Puerto Santiago 2.50-3E taxi
Eating out for the most amazing meal go to Beeches, you will probably have to book and they are closed on Fridays. The restaurant is owned by Billy and Sonia ex pats and nice. Above the Courtyard Bar.
Eating out on the cheap try the Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse great steaks for 4-5E
Entertainment
Try the Courtyard great varied entertainment nightly Toby and the staff are very friendly. Catch Old Dogs New Tricks the band Tuesdays 11 pm and Tuesday 10 pm, Jill has the most amazing voice and is well worth a listen.
Los Giganties 1E bus and 3E Taxi
Eating out great roast Wednesday and Sunday either 6 or 9E at the Harbour Club, other reviews for LG cite restaurants near the harbour.
Entertainment has to be TJ’s great friendly bar with nightly entertainment 2 or 3 acts nightly again catch Old Dogs New Tricks the duo. Do not miss Ms Joanne Love it is an experience.
Highland Paddy 3 is also an excellent alternative to TJ’s lots of tribute acts.
Getting around by bus, buy a roaming ticket 12E from the gift shop/bureau de change down in the centre of the resort, you will save at least one third on fares.
You can walk to PS and LG it’s not that far but it is very, very hilly you will need to be fit. Some visitors found walking to the resort centre a bit too hilly.
The food and entertainment is rubbish in the hotel if you accept this and are prepared to spend a little more on food and getting around, you will have a great time as there are some excellent alternatives to the hotel.
I went on holiday alone and met some great people and I had a brilliant holiday which made up for the hotel. I love Tenerife it’s a great island, if it’s your first time in Tenerife get out and see the island Playa de la Arena is very pretty but dead and if you judge the island on this resort and/or hotel you will probably never return which is a shame as parts of Tenerife are great.
I hope this review helps and you have a great holiday.

We stayed at the Hotetur Bahia...

Jan 2004, Mrs C Newnham

We stayed at the Hotetur Bahia Flamingo in Jan 2004. We were very pleased with the accomodation which was clean and comfortable. Every room has a balcony and a sea view which is an added advantage, The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was excellent. We certainly had no complaints and would visit again without hesitation.
