Matala Dimitris Villa Reviews
" This was advertised of a family-run... "
Submitted By: Mrs L A Arney
This was advertised of a family-run establishment with a description a four star hotel.
On arrival there was no-one there to greet us and a key was left with a note as to the room no.
Agreed, the room did have a fridge (very noisy and ancient) a TV (almost on the ceiling and about 12" screen), a shower (with tepid or cold water and no curtain) a balcony (minute and enclosed with solid concrete.
The decoration was in desperate need of renewal with a cracked sink and non-matching tiles. The curtain at the bedroom window was a piece of hessian with ragged edges which just about reached each side of the window.
When I saw the room my heart sunk, as this was our honeymoon.
The restaurant was 100 yards away next to the swimming pool. Evening meals were served between 6pm and 7pm and were so basic as to be unbelievable. One night we were served a bowl of boiled potatoes with a few French beans in a tomato sauce with a side salad. The other two nights weren't much better.
The pool was wonderful, but that was all. Then we changed hotels to the Matala Bay Hotel across the road. Chalk and cheese for the same price. I can highly recommend Matala Bay. Decor was good, choice of food and option of half board as and when required which is a bonus as it is nice to be able to eat out.
However the food was so good and so reasonably priced that we stayed in quite a lot.
The resort itself was good with lots of restaurants, some very Greek, a lovely beach, but with some large stones just as you get into the sea. Toilets on the beach, but the hole in the floor variety. Bars don't mind if you use their facilities if you buy a drink at some time. Lots of gift shops and a small market for fruit and veg.

We found everything to our liking, from the comfortable beds to the delicious breakfasts, but most of all, the peace and quiet. If we wished to spend the day relaxing on the terrace or in our room, we were not disturbed at all. When we required information about excursions or activities, this was readily available.
It was so good, we have urged our daughter to take her honeymoon here when she gets married next month! Look out for Mr. and Mrs. Fiore!
Hope to see you once more in October. Sue and Ben Elliott.
