Love It Every Year!
from sunshineshellly
I travel to bulgaria every year with my family because its so cheep and can't spend money over there. The breakfast is'nt much to rave about but its cheep enough to miss out on. Iv travelled all over the world for exotic tropical places Eg Maldives, Langkawi and the Seychelles. Yeah there excellent places but you get what you pay for. If you want a relaxing place then save up or put up with it cause it is noisy and has loads of nightlife but thats what you get from holidays that students can afford. Everything is really basic but you still have everything you need. A shop just outside the front door, a supermarket 5 minutes walk away, shops ,restaurants, bars, everything. The beeches are nice but you do need to watch your space as people can try and get under your parasol. Do keep all your things safe and never leave them unattended as there are alot of gypsys. There are alot of Germans and they are nothing to worry about. All they do is speak a different language and dont do any harm so why people are moaning I dont know. After everything said I think its a great holiday but can get noisy at night. Going again 25th August 2007
why all the bad press?

After booking our holiday at the pomorie i decided to do a bit of research into it just to get an idea of the place. I firstly asked people i knew about Bulgaria as an whole, i was told it was good and cheap, but to watch out because of the muggers, prostitutes and swindlers. Then i read reports on the pomorie hotel saying that it was bad food, extremely noisy and basically falling to bits. MY OPINION Bulgaria is beutiful, sunny beach was good for resteraunts bars and clubs also the beach,PLENTY TO DO! I thought it would be abit 1980's but their hotels are out of this world. the hotel pomorie is a very large hotel with a large restruant,5 bars a big pool and games room. our room was very clean and modern. The noise level was the same as anywhere i have stayed. we went half board the breakfast was average as is anywhere in bulgaria(not the same as back home). The food for our eventing meal was good with a wide range and also catered for children. As a whole a good cheap holiday, i would go back again
Noise
from gregglasgow
Our stay at the Pomorie hotel was bilghted by the constant racket of the 'music' from the pool bar. No chance of a long lie, because it started around 9am, and no chance of an early night because it went on until 2am most evenings. Other than that, the room, while being small, was clean, though there is no air-conditioning. The staff were friendly and helpful. While we would return for another holiday on the Black Sea coast, Nesebar would be the preferred option. No way would we consider the Pomorie again; way too noisy.
Good value, great pool, we liked the Pomorie
from w33pop
Our decision to go on holiday was a last minute one as my other half had just got a plaster cast off his foot & wanted a week to recuperate. Our shopping list was - fly direct from Aberdeen, nice pool, plenty of places to see & eat locally. First time to Bulgaria for both of us, our fingers were well & truly crossed. What a lovely surprise that there was so much to see & do so cheaply! Unfortunately, a lot of it we couldn't do because of the crutches (quad biking at the beach, bungee style attractions where you ping up into the air, visiting the actual beach itself & walking further to try more of the many many hotels & restaurants on offer. & all so cheap as well. We can't have spent more than about £15 on a meal for 2 the whole time we were there. & that was for 2 starters, 2 main courses & drinks as well. The Pomorie itself was a nice hotel. Clean with plenty of rooms (albeit small ones) & a really excellent pool with a fab swim up bar. We really didn't need much more than this for a relaxing holiday! Staff were friendly throughout & happy hour on beers, wines & spirits in the bar was from 3pm-midnight. Result! Breakfast at the Pomorie was unfortunately pretty dismal (we had a B & B deal)...bacon was like slices of boiled ham, butter was big chunks floating in a bowl of water (was obviously ice previously), bleuch. But hey, when you can have a freshly made omlette in the reataurant by the pool instead for about £3, who's caring if you don't eat the breakfast?! Noise did travel in the corridor outside the rooms & with only 1 key given per room & some pretty poor going-out arrangements by some of our neighbours, we had a few nights of being woken with knocking at the door down the hall. But that's more to do with the stupidity of the people in that room than the hotel. They'd do better to offer 2 keys from day 1 though to avoid that. All in all, a good value holiday with plenty to see & do. Lovely weather & very little hidden costs as everything is cheap wherever you go. Reccommended.
Very clean hotel
from emz3356
The hotel is in an excellent location in sunny beach with restaurants, bars and shops all around and only a 2 minute walk to the beach. We were a bit apprehensive as to what the hotel was going to be like as it does not look half as nice as the other hotels in the Balkan Holidays brochure and because we had such a cheap deal for 2 weeks (only 219pp B+B). When we arrived we were very pleased with our room, (although it was very small as we were in the old part of the hotel) the bathroom looked as if it had recently been done out and he furniture looked fairly new. The only downfall was that none of the rooms had air conditioning-this made it very difficult to sleep at night even though we left the patio doors open all night -plus the fact that we had seagulls outside that never went to sleep made it worse! In the morning we still had difficulties sleeping because the pool bar would put its music on at around 9am every day and our room was overlooking the pool. The pool at the hotel is lovely, its a very good size, very clean and well looked after. However, there is a charge for sunbeds at the pool- they charge 5 levs (almost £2) for each sunbed you use each day. The drinks are more expensive at the pool bar but still cheaper than at home! We found some of the staff quite rude at the pool bar but then again we found that quite a lot of Bulgarians were rude and miserable throughout the resort. In one instance we had 2 drinks thrown over us because we refused to pay for them, simply because we hadn't ordered them! This was in 'Extreme' which is a lively bar directly opposite the hotel- you have been warned!! Also i would asvise you not to even ASK taxi men how much a taxi is to wherever you want to go because they dont take 'no' for an answer after you've asked! One taximan said it would cost us 120levs(approx £40) to go to bourgas in his taxi and claimed that it would cost us 40levs each if we were to go on the bus, however, we did decide to go on the bus and found that it costs 8levs each there and back so dont listen to taxi men!!! This is the first time we had been to Bulgaria and had heard that it was very cheap there- we found that it was quite cheap compared to any other place we have been to but no where near as cheap as it used to be as prices seem to have rocketed this year since they have joined the EU. The resort is very popular with German people and also the Russian and Swedish. We did not come across a whole lot of british people as you would in places like spain. The beach is nice but the sea is full of jellyfish!Once we realised this we steered clear! Despite this people were still going in the sea- and also with their children! I did not see anyone get stung but heard about it on the plane journey back home. Also, the sunbeds on the beach are expensive-it was about £7 for 2beds each day. The best bar we went to was 'Sunny Dreams' and we went there every night, they have friendly staff and happy hour all night long- I recommend trying their srawberry margherittas!! The food in Bulgaria is on the whole very nice- barbecued food is very popular at the resort. There is a McDonalds and KFC at the opposite end of the resort to the hotel but is only a ten minute walk away. Apart from in McDonalds i would advise you not to try a burger in bulgaria- not very nice at all! Although the 'chicken kebaps' and jacket potatoes on the takeaway stalls are very nice and so are the meat skewers and barbecue food in most of the restaurants. I would go to sunny beach again but to another hotel with air con! We were fed up and ready to go home after one week because of the heat in our room-it put a dampener on our holiday.
Great Hotel
from KEVSPR
Hotel was great, staff where lovely especially tatanya in the main bar, spotless interior although could have done with more toilets at reception area, the eateria was adequate within the hotel and the booze was dirt cheap in the hotel, but as for the resort its way behind spain and very lacking in safety and health also lots of prostitutes and beggars about not ideal for families if u ask me , but without a doubt 1 of the best hotels i,ve stayed at in the past 10 years.
Pity about the NOISE!
from Birdnutter
I chose the Pomorie after looking at Balkan Holiday brochures, but more significantly reading reviews from Trip Advisor and other sources. One review stood out from the rest in that the author suffered noise from the music cafe bar, so I packed my earplugs just in case. Guess I drew the short straw, I was placed on the first floor, two doors away from the cafe bar. I arrived at 0500 hrs and the music was blasting out then, so in went my earplugs, which gave some relief. Out of 14 nights, there were only 3 bearable nights and one of these was because the Police were parked outside the bar door. The bar staff had the temerity to tell guests to keep quiet, when it was they who were the culprits! I did not comply with the suggestion by reception that I ask for another room, so I had strength for my complaint. The Hotel were breaking the law, they should have turned the noise down, not move the problem on to some other poor guest. Otherwise this was a good hotel by Bulgarian standards. The rooms were reasonably spacious and clean, beds comfortable and toilet and shower very good. I was on a BB basis and thought that the breakfast was plentiful and very varied indeed, also the staff were constantly working to clear plates, and resupply food and drink. Being a swimmer I took advantage of the very large pool and enjoyed it. However, I wondered why some guests were laying on grass instead of the concrete surrounds and sunbeds. Apparently this was because the Pomorie did not own the pool and a charge was levied - a small bit of luck on my side, I never got asked. If, I were to go back to this hotel, I would insist I was given a room as far away from that cafe bar as possible.
Full of germans
from leoniecd
We stayed here for five days, hotel was lovely apart from full of germans, no english at all. Catering was nice but steered towards german market (chocolate cake for breakfast) entertainment was in german, in fact everything about the whole town was german. Very quiet place, didn't speak to anyone english the whole 5 days we were there, apart from phoning back home!
would go back

having read reveiws before we went we wernt sure what to expect, after staying there i can understand the mixed reviews. There are 2 parts to the pomorie , the new part and the old part. In the new part, the rooms are massive, the balconlys are big and very safe, there is loads of wardrobe room and the bathrooms are big with fitted hairdryers, the tv is a 28". In the old part the rooms are really tiny, the balconys small and unsafe if youve got little kids because of the gap between the floor and railing. you get a 14" tv and 1 single wardrobe. Bathroom small. The showers are excellent in both rooms, the main pool is really big with big shallow area's round the bar , the kids pool is big aswell. behind the kids pool theres a big sand pit which is handy. We paid to upgarde to the bigger room, about 10pound a night, they called it a studio room, but lots of people where just allocated these rooms who'd paid the same as us for a double room. It seems to be pot luck where you end up Although this hotel didnt look as nice as some of the newer ones it has a lot going for it, a lot of the new ones are close togather with not much land and the pools are shaded a half of the time because of how close the are to the hotels, however at the pomorie the pool had the sun all day, there was loads of grassed areas, a really big grassed feild behind the new part of the hotel which is ok for kids football etc. there was a kids play area, only a climbing frame with 3 slides but my 4 year old really liked it. The breakfast was nice, loads of things i wouldnt eat but stuff we liked too, true theres 1 toast machine but we just sent one person and stuck 9slices , took about 5 minutes. There are two lifts in the new bit, 1 which is meant to be old bit but only about 10 rooms away from the new section. the rooms were really clean, ours faced the back and you could hear music etc if you had the door open, but if you closed the door you couldnt hear it. It was nowhere near as noisey as the room looking onto the front. on arrival i would hire a fan, about £1.50 a night and a fridge, cant remember how much. if you go to the forum page i would happily tell you anything else you need to know about the pomorie, just head it pomorie hotel.
Brilliant Hotel
from milkybuttons
I stayed at the Pomorie hotel with my boyfriend and we were very impressed with the hotel and the staff. The room was quite small but very clean with an excellent power shower which was fantastic after a hot day. The breakfasts weren't the best. Most of it consisted of fruit and Bulgarian cuisine. We only went once as it was so cheap to eat anywhere. The pool is a lot bigger than it looked in the brochure and was kept cool during the day so was very refreshing. There is a charge for using sun loungers and umbrellas round the pool but you can lay a towel or lilo on the grass for free. There is a daily maid service in the rooms where sheets and towels are changed. Sometimes they set your sheets in nice patterns which is very sweet. They too always have a smile tho I dont think they speak English. Try the deserts and cocktails in the bar at the front of the hotel they were fab! And if your really hungry the spagetti dishes from the pool bar were huge! The receptionist was quite snooty and unhelpful but everyone else was very friendly. Try the Ocean Restuarant next door and try the garlic bread with cheese and the steaks. Mamacita's is a Mexican restuarant which is also recommened. Overall a very good accomidation for a fantastic holiday.
We made the mistake of going all inclusive, the food is just revolting. We had just chips every night but to be fair we didn't pay much more for all inclusive. Very basic rooms but they're fine and the hotel overall is nice. The staff were very arrogant, don't want to help... more
