The Boathouse Hotel

If you're looking for a nice, clean and reasonable hotel, The Boathouse in Santorini is the one for you. Located on the black volcanic sands of Kamari Beach, The Boathouse boasts a lovely pool, a great breakfast and the wonderful hospitality of Spyros, the owner. It was so easy to take the bus to all the sights of the island to enjoy the rich culture and the magnificent vistas offered by Santo Winery and the many restaurants overlooking the caldera.
Moonlight Nights
from six-travelers
The fact that The Boat house Hotel is near the end of Kamari Beach strip meant that it was quiet. Spyros, the owner, is very accomodating and provided valuable suggestions. His nearby restaurant, Almira, has an extensive menu (we loved the eggplant appetizer a lot) and is very reasonable. He introduced us to Baileys and Sambucca on the rocks, a drink we will associate with evenings seaside. The fresh-water pool was inviting; you will require water-shoes for the rocky beach. Although most of our group had single beds, we lucked out with a double. We slept with the balcony doors open to the sea breeze and the moonlight. No television, but who cares when on holiday. Good coffee and breakfast (esp. the fresh fruit salad and the yoghurt with honey). Sammy the patio -cat entertained us one afternoon eating fish. We took the bus to the nearby towns and to the wine-museum. A great place to kick back and relax!

The Boat House is ideally situated along the sea front at Kamari. We received a warm welcome from the owner, Spyros, who arranged to meet us at the airport. He and his wife, Diane, provided excellent personal service throughout our stay. The hotels rooms are comfortable and very clean. We had a wonderful view of the beach and ocean from our doorway. The hotel also has a very good swimming pool which we made full use of. We also enjoyed the occasional nightcap from the bar while sitting on our patio. Overall, the hotel provided excellent value for money and we highly recommend it. We would definitely make a return trip. Thank you, Diane and Spyros, for helping to provide such a memorable stay.
loved everything about this hotel!

I stayed at the Boathouse Hotel for two weeks and enjoyed absolutely everything about it! Upon arriving at the airport, my friends and I were welcomed with by Dianna and Spyros and they made us all feel at home throughout our stay. The rooms at the Boathouse Hotel were clean, comfortable and every ammenity was provided! I am in the midst of planning my return trip to Santorini just so that I can visit these wonderful people and the Boathouse Hotel again! I have never felt so comfortable while on vacation! I have recommended this hotel to everyone and just hope it's not full when I want to go back!
Loved This Boutique Hotel
from helgamumphry
The Boathouse is a charming boutique style hotel family owned and operated right on Kamari Beach. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and are cleaned to perfection every day by Anna and Varvara who have been with the hotel for several years. Being allergic to most bug bites I was somewhat fearful about a trip to a hot climate but my fears were unnecessary, the rooms were bug free and I returned bite free. There is a great Buffet Breakfast served poolside each morning while enjoying the ocean view. Diane and Spyros were helpful in arranging cars for hire and suggestions for sightseeing trips. You will also want to eat at Almira restaurant located nearby also owned by Spryros, great food and service. I have already recommended The Boathouse Hotel to business clients, co-workers and friends planning to visit Santorini Give it a try.
Caution--Leaves A LOT to be desired!!

After reading some of the other reviews, we were terribly Disappointed with what we experienced at The Boathouse Hotel. Yes, while The Boathouse Hotel is right on the beach, it is far from Fira. The cab was 20 euros and Diana called a cab for us to get there and even though another couple was also going to Fira at the same time as me and my boyfriend (and we all ended up sharing the cab (4 people))--we ended up having to pay 40 euros because the hotel arranged with the cab that both couples would pay 20 euros!. Second of all, our hotel room was awful. Please take a moment to review the candid photos. We had two double beds which were about 1 foot off the floor. The decor left a lot to be desired and there was a roach in the closet (still alive). Next, onto the bathroom: You will not want to touch anything in there. There was no hot water at all! Whenever we did turn any water on, there was a suspicious drain in the center of the floor that kept bubbling up with water. Notice in the pictures. We spoke to a family we saw on the patio a floor below us and they were complaining to us because they were having the same impression as us and also no hot water. Dianna was no where to be found as she does not stay there. She goes home at regular work hours to her own home somewhere else. So, when we needed to check out first thing in the morning around 6am--which we discussed at depth with Dianna, no one was there to see us out. We had no idea what to do with our keys and had no way of knowing with certainty that our cab was going to pick us up to take us to the airport. I would not recommend staying there, especially when there are so many other great hotels.

We are distressed that this guest suggests that we somehow convinced the taxi driver to charge her double the normal taxi rate. Taxis on Santorini are controlled by laws and this is considered an illegal activity (and completely out of any hotel's control). If we knew about this before the guest left here we would have reported this particular taxi driver (as all taxis are numbered) and have her fare refunded. The only part of this incident that the hotel was involved in was actually calling the taxi so the guests could go to Thira to see the sunset.
As for the roach we have never, ever found even one in this building (they are fairly rare in Santorini in general).
We are so sorry that this guest did not feel she got what she paid for and as the hotel owners would like to apoligize to her personally. Next time we suggest visiting Santorini for more than 1 day (this was the reason for the joint taxi drive - to be sure she got up to Thira for sunset on her only night here) as if the room she was allotted did not appeal to her we could have changed her to a room to her liking, as all our rooms are different. We did not find out about her compliants until we read this review so were unable to help her become more comfortable here. We are not an expensive hotel in comparison to other Santorini hotels and we feel, and we have been told, that we give our customers good value for what they have paid.
Again please accept our apologies and we hope you can at least visit Santorini again for a little longer next time to appreciate it's magic and have a good experience here as all do!!
Excellent family run hotel
from marie.ng
My husband and I and most of our wedding party stayed at the Boathouse Hotel prior to our wedding in July. It was a fantastic choice. Firstly, the hotel is great. The pool area is very pretty, well kept and clean, there are plenty of sun beds and there is a small bar at the pool side. We had a large room on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the sea. It had a bathroom with shower, a large wardrobe, a fridge, a safe and a telephone (which was handy as local calls were free so it was easy for us to stay in touch with our guests staying elsewhere on the island). All of the rooms differed in size, with some substantially smaller than ours, however we took over 9 rooms altogether and all our guests were happy with their rooms. The hotel is located on the beachfront of Kamari. Although there are restaurants and shops immediately on both sides of the hotel it is situated about a 5 minute walk from the main square – which was nice as it meant it wasn’t too noisy at night. The only downside was the noise from the planes which fly over regularly – but you would get this anywhere in Kamari. Finally the staff are wonderful. Diane and Spyros went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We booked around 9 months in advance and made so many changes to our booking before our arrival which they accommodated without a problem. One of my friends luggage got lost by her airline – Spyros picked it up for her from the airport the next day. On the day of the wedding I decided last minute to get some rose petals to put on the table but couldn’t find any in the local shops so Spyros went to the florist and picked some up for us. We will definitely stay at this hotel again when we go back to Santorini!
Wonderful Boathouse
from Ditchys
We stayed at The Boathouse from 4th to 11th July 2006, I had booked this as a surprise for my husband for our 10th anniversary, we were thrilled with the whole experience. We were collected from the airport by Spiros (thankyou) during the transfer he told us a little about the island, and they have a zero crime rate. We felt at home immediately, we had been allocated a seaview room with a large terrace overlooking the very clean pool. I had requested champagne on arrival to start our holiday with a bang, when I tried to pay for this I was told by Dianne that this was her gift to us for our anniversary (you would not get that in a five star hotel), the room was comfortable, with a small fridge to store water, etc. Breakfast was buffett style and very relaxed by the pool side, plenty of food for everybody and was rarely cleared before 11am. The staff were efficient and pleasant, Dianne recommended a restaurant in Fira for our anniversary, The Sphinx, we had a table on the terrace overlooking the volcano, fabulous sunset very romantic, best steak we had had for a long time. The Boathouse is in a wonderful location at the end of the main street, offering peaceful days and nights, but just a stroll from the main bars and taverna's. Would recommend the Almira restaurant we ate there twice and were not disappointed. Santorini is a wonderful island and our stay at the Boathouse will not be forgotten, we hope to return some time in the future. Thankyou Dianne and Spiros.
Not Great, Not Bad
from mdguy2183
I stayed here in early June and did not find the hotel to live up to TripAdvisor reviews. This by no means a bad hotel, but I have no idea why so many leave excellent or even above average ratings. This is an average hotel. All I require in a hotel is a nice bed. No frills necessary. This hotel did not live up to that menial requirement. The exterior looks fantastic, and then disappointment hits when you unlock the room. The pluses: The location is great and quiet. It is away from the craziness of the rest of the main areas on the island. The woman who runs the place is friendly. The pictures on this site are very accurate. The hotel provided me a free shuttle to the airport when I left. The breakfast was the best I had in Greece. The pool area is nice, but you're nuts if you stay poolside in Santorini. The negatives: The room was not nice. The furniture was dated and uncomfortable. The room was depressingly unattractive. I booked a seaview room and ended up looking out on an empty lot. No shuttle was provided to the hotel for me from the port. (18 euros). There are not phone lines for each room. I'm pretty sure every room, including the hotel office and fax, share two lines.
superb hotel in a great location

Have just returned from a great holiday at the Boathouse in Santorini. We had a ground floor room which overlooked the fabulous pool area and beyond that the sea. The rooms are kept beautifully clean by the very friendly and efficient staff, and the owner Diane and her husband were very helpful. Diane arranged the car hire for us which saved us a lot of money. Had we booked it with one of the major operators such as Hertz and not who they recommend it would have cost us a fortune. The hotel is at the end of the main street in Kamari a perfect location in our view. Close enough to all the bars and tavernas but at the quiet end so able to sleep well at night. There is quite a lot of aircraft noise during the day as the flight path is directly over the hotel and beach, but really didn't bother us at all, it isn't noisy at night time. Although we chose to go to the beach rather than sit by the pool ( not our thing) the pool was I think the cleanest I have ever seen. Anybody thinking about booking this hotel book direct. They have their own website and we again saved money by booking the flights with excel and the hotel direct via e-mail. Diane is Canadian as other reviewers have said, so makes life a lot easier! All in all a fab place to stay that we would recommend to anyone.
In reply to this last review - The Boathouse, Santorini is owned and operated by Spyros and Diane Zorzos since 1989 - the Arion Bay is a new hotel built within the rooms and restaurant that were next to The Boathouse since the late 1990's. So as the last review mentions... more
