Absolutely charming - a real gem by DDootsie
10 / 10

Can only concur with most of the other reviews here. This hotel is a real find - a total gem with exceptionally friendly service and packed with character! However, this hotel will not be to everyone's taste - it fully reflects the steep, cobbled character of the old town streets that surround it - so check the hotel's own website which gives a very accurate flavour of the place before booking (www.hotelandreas.com).

We stayed for three nights in the same room (room 17) described in the October 2005 review below. The room is split level with two single beds on the ground floor, which are kind of made up to act as sofas as well. Then there's a loft area with a double bed. (I couldn't stand upright in the loft area, but we were only sleeping up there!). The bathroom is typical Greek style with no shower tray, but at least it's a proper (not hand held) shower with good water pressure and temperature. The air conditioning was welcome in the seering Rhodes heat. The decor is rustic and charming - all crisp white linen and lovely little touches.

Location - it's within the Old Town, easy walking through gorgeous tiny cobbled lanes to all the sights, and load of bars and tavernas. It's up a very quiet lane though, so no need to worry about any nighttime noise.

Staff - extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived off the morning ferry from Marmaris, so it was about 11am when we got there. We were immediately offered a seat on the lovely terrace with a complimentary cold drink (we opted for beer!), and told our room was ready immediately.

Price - great value. Again, check out the hotel's own website for details of all the rooms and prices. There's even 5% discount for cash!

Great Hotel!! by A TripAdvisor Member

This is a great place within the walls of the old city. The price could not have been better. There are wonderful views from the breakfast terrace. The owner and staff were friendly, warm and very helpful. The location was perfect among the winding lanes of the old town. Definitely check out the bar and restaurant BESARA down the street from the hotel. The owner was very friendly and the food and service were tops. Andreas is a great value and should be considered.

a charming jewel of a pension by Dutch Brother

If you want a modern, full-sized hotel with all the amenities, this is not the place for you. But if you want a small, family-run inn with charm, history, and individuality this is the place for you. It is a twelve room, 500 year old Turkish house where every room is different and decorated in a Turkish style. We had a good-size room with twin beds downstairs and a double bed in the loft. The loft had a low ceiling (less than six feet) and was reachable by a steep stairway, but most rooms do not have lofts and are easily accessible. The room had a couple "cupboards" for storage, one that looked like a small fireplace but wasn't. They added to the uniqueness and atmosphere of the room. The bathroom was small, the kind where the entire room functions as the shower, but at least it was in the room unlike some other rooms where the bathroom is is the hall. Breakfast is taken on a terrace with great views of Old Town Rhodes. Service is friendly, low-key, and wonderful. They picked us up at the airport and delivered us to the hotel's front door, no mean feet when some "streets" are only six or seven feet wide. Most taxis will not brave those streets, but instead leave hotel guests at the city gate to negotiate the cobblestones on their own. Arriving at night, passing through the city's gates and crossing the moat, was a magical experience I will not soon forget. The prices are very reasonable. If you want to stay in the Old Town, as opposed to a beach hotel, this is a great option.

best breakfast in greece! by Kalderimi
8 / 10

Wonderful stay after a long ferry trip from Crete and no room fixed for Rhodes' Old Town. "Sure" said Constance "We can put you up for a few days". There was a car to meet me (useful when carrying cameras, laptop and stuff up from the port) and a lucky cancellation got me a great room upgrade. All the rooms have distinctive touches (around a Lawrence Durrell theme - he lived and worked around the Old Town just after the war and Constance, the owner, is a great fan) and much care has gone into all the details and fittings...

Best things? Friendly and helpful staff, good value for money, interesting fellow guests, and those long, long, buffet breakasts up in the morning (afternoons and evenings too) room with fantastic views of the Knights' palace, the minarets, and the winding lanes of the Old Town - the sea, the Turkish coast, and sailing ships not far away in the distance...

No need to go overboard though. Constance and co will look after you and the Andreas makes a fine base for a few lazy days spent exploring Rhodes before picking up the cameras and laptop and moving on...

LOVED THE HOTEL ANDREAS by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed for three weeks. The people were charming and friendly. The view is magnificent and the hotel is centrally located. Prces are right. You can't find a better place in the old walled city.

Beware the Andreas Fault! by GaryJune

Worst experience in Greece, the bathroom ceiling was too low to stand up. Because I had a confirmed reservation (sight unseen, of course), the innkeeper refused to move me to a better room. Moved the next day to Hotel Minos, lovely stayed three lovely days.

Management response from A TripAdvisor Member, 22 Jun 2006

.We are sorry this guest was not satisfied. In response to this criticism , we built a new shower in 2006 to solve the height problem .We are always ready to respond to a guest who is not pleased with the reserved accomodation by changing the room for another . In many instances we upgrade rooms for our reserved clients.. In the case of this gentleman all the other rooms were occupied.

Great Quiet Jewel in Amongst Old Town by A TripAdvisor Member
8 / 10

Hotel Andreas is one of those little converted pensions that is a little boutique place to stay and get away from it all. Constance was a wonderful host, and it was so comfortable and quiet there! We stayed for 3 nights while we island hopping during our early summer holiday. It has great views over the old town from the breakfast terrace and our balcony, and it just would not be right to not stay within the walls of the old Crusaders Castle! It's like night and day between the typical feel of the newer parts of Rhodes town. This is for people looking for more down to earth and more authentic cultural experiences, not the typical traveller. Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets of the castle was like a trip through time (until you hit the majority of the tourist shops about 10 minutes away) Our room was called the "crazy room". It wasn't very big, had only a sink in the room, and a private key to our bathroom down the hall. But it was decorated very nicely! This was a very fulfilling place to stay. We would recommend it to anyone! 1/2-Hour walk to harbour; 5 minutes to the bakery; 5-7 minutes to Romios Restaurant (great food)

Great Location by kobekeith

I stayed in the Hotel Andreas for 4 nights during my spring vacation. It is a small pension and was in the best location on a hill in the old town. The breakfast room had a great view of the old town and you could also see the Aegean Sea as well as Turkey. My room was big and clean. I had a room without a bathroom which was an adjustment for me. But I did have my own shower. When I go back again I will ask for a room with a bathroom. The breakfast was simple but very good. The owner and staff were great and very friendly. It is a very laid-back place and a nice place to relax. It is "no-frills" so if that is what you like then stay elsewhere. But if you want to stay in the heart of the old city among the ancient bulidings walking through the alley-ways and along the stone streets then this is a safe choice. I looked at the "penthouse" room and it is really nice. I will definitely stay in the Andreas again when I return to Rhodes. It is a great choice for the price you will pay.

Wonderful stay by A TripAdvisor Member

Hotel Andreas is a wonderful little pension in an attractive area of Old Town Rhodes. It has a pleasant courtyard with lemon and orange trees and beautiful views. Although it is not overly fancy, the hotel itself has an interesting history and is perfectly located. We loved our stay here and we would go back again!

Lovely for the unconventional tourist by sojournerTruth

This place is perfect if you are not a party animal, and you like to discover little jewels in your travels. You will not find any loud , drunken, package tourists here! Pension Andreas is a friendly place, which has an atmosphere of well-worn, unstuffy elegance. The staff is relaxed and kind, and my room "the penthouse" had a breathtaking view of the Old City. Though generally quiet, the old town teems with life, and you can feel like a local staying here. I loved walking back at night along the cobbled passageways that they call "streets" in the old town. All-in-all my stay there was magical. BUT! don't try to bring a huge suitcase, the uneven cobbled streets are unfiendly to rolling bags, and taxis do not stop close-by. And close your windows to keep out feral cats!
