Lato Boutique Hotel

Good location - close to the bus station, and on a little hill so nice views of the harbor front. Not in the most touristy part of town, but easily walkable to other neighborhoods. The Megaron was close by, but it is lower and most likely will have sunset blocked by other buildings, so we were glad to have picked Lato. We had room 502 on the highest floor. The Lato hotel was dissapointing for a boutique hotel. The public areas were smart and the room well decorated but very small, so much so that the double bed was pushed against a wall. Nice touches were bath robes and disposible slippers. The view over the harbour from the front rooms was lovely. Breakfast was average and the hot buffet cold. The layout of the buffet area was irritatingly cramped. Overall ok but not fantastic value.

We stayed in the hotel on 30th April - 1st May. We booked on-line from the UK about 1 month before and paid 260 Euro's. When we arrived we were ugraded to a fantastic suite which should cost 260 Euro's per night. The room was very comfortable with ensuite facilities and a faboulous extra room which contained a seating area overlooking the bay - marvellous, the view was worth the cost. Breakfast was typical standrad breakfast bit like a holiday inn breakfast. Staff very polite, location good, and recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lato. It is in a fantastic location, within minutes of the harbour and the city center. We got a room on the top floor. It had a really nice balcony and a fantastic view of the port. The room was lovely but slightly small. This didnt really matter though as the balcony was very spacious. Great view of the harbor, very convenient location to the main street. Probably paid a little more than i would have liked but it was still reasonable. It was difficult to find the hotel, they should have a much better-detailed map on the website to show the number of winding streets and different ways to find the hotel. The room was small but efficient. The buffet breakfast was great and ample. The valet parking was free, and was a life-saver on occasion. I spent 2 nites in Heraklion during my July 2006 vacation. I am usually a budget minded traveler, but decided to splurge by staying here. It was definetly worth the money. I got a room with a terrace that faced the harbor and the fort. I admit the room was small but the hotel had a certain luxury about it. Down the block was a laundry that did your clothes for a reasonable price and if you needed something in a hurry they could be counted on. My husband and I were booked at the Lato Hotel for 1 night in September and I wished we were able to stay longer. The hotel was completely booked so we couldn't even come back and stay on our way back to Athens. We would definitely recommend everyone to stay at the Lato if you are coming throught Heraklion. The older part of the city is the best place to be and the rest of it is a busy, mostly charmless metropolis, undistinguishable from any other city. We stayed at the Lato for 1 night on our Honeymoon in September 2006. The things we didn't like - very small room, very small bathroom, very small balcony., jacuzzi closed early in the evening! The things we did like - bathtub (handy after hiking Samaria Gorge!), clean, nicely decorated, pleasant staff, good breakfast, nice rooftop restaurant with good view, great view of harbour from our room and convenient location to harbour to get our Ferry the next day.

Nice hotel. Great view of the port. Rooms are small, but clean and nice. Balcony in room was really small. Not enough room for even 2 to sit and enjoy the view. Staff was very nice and extremely accomodating. Breakfast was OK. We took a day trip to Chania and would of rather stayed there and maybe taken a day trip to Heraklion. There was more to do and see and it was much more charming. Book your ferries early.
