" Fantastic holiday "

Me and my lovely partner have just returned from a fantastic week at this hotel. Absolutely great hotel and strongly recommended. Our room, like the whole hotel was spotless, food was delicious and plentiful (recommend both the a la carte restaurants), staff very friendly and helpful. There was always plenty of staff on hand to help and no queueing for food/drinks/reception etc
We only went on 1 trip to Tequise market. Would recommend this trip, as its a very quaint village and in excess of 300 stalls. It works out more flexible and cheaper to just use the local bus (no 12 - outside hotel) than organised trips through tour operators.
Only problem we had was our return flight didn't set off till 10pm. Our options were check out at 11am and have a free half an hour in a complimentary room later, or 50 euros to keep a room till 6pm. We opted for the 2nd option, but it involved changing rooms to a very poor room (only 1 light worked, the door didn't lock properly etc). We would never have accepted this as our room for the week and assume it is only used for this less than 1 day purpose but in hindsight probably not worth 50 euros.
Apart from this substandard room, our trip was perfect and very relaxing. Enjoy your hols.

Good for: Beach

" This was my best holiday ever,i loved... "

This was my best holiday ever,i loved every second of it and could of stayed forever! I went with my parents,my husband and my 1 year old son.Our rooms were nice and clean with a good cot bed for our son.Our room was next to my parents as we requested and in a quiet little corner of the hotel which was perfect for us.Reception were always very helpful and gave you free bottled water whenever you needed it.The food was always very nice,i enjoyed it so much i put on half a stone in 2 weeks! My son was 1 at the time and had just started eating normal foods and he didnt turn his nose up at anything either. The poolside was always very nice and clean although i would say you may have to get up early to grab a bed.The only downside was it was a bit of a walk to all the shops and resturants, other than that i loved it and will be returning with my family plus a new addition next year!

" My husband and I just returned from... "

My husband and I just returned from the Riu Paraiso hotel - and we miss it already! The staff are so very nice, it is spotlessly clean - and the food and choices are excellent. I want to add that the Animation team that give an almost nightly show are excellent!1 What a professional troup of young people - led by sucha funny" Chief"(as they refer to him- a VERY short Spanish guy who is hilariously funny and can dance like real pro- as they all can) all the team also do activities with guests and also kids activities during the day. The hotel also has outside entertainers on the two days that the house-performers are off. We didn't need to go out at night from the complex( though if we stay 2 weeks , we would) - but I can assure you I would hate to miss those hilarious shows... Thanks , guys...
I must add a word of complaint - not about the hotel - but about the First Choice agent and also the person at the F.Choice office I spoke to on the Phone - when I wasn't getting anywhere with the agent herself..
We booked 2 excursions with First Choice Rep. - and though the excursions were VERY good( especially the Grand Island tour) , before we went she told us that the bus could not pick up at the hotel due to road works.. Well OK, BUT - there was a 20/25 minute walk to the pick up point she designated; and when we protested at the long walk, she was rather cavalier about it - as was the office I also called - and was told no one else complained, and why didn't I get a taxi/ I said why should I? I booked the excursion in good faith , at a cost of 57.50 Euros, and ALL other agencies'trips get picked up at the hotels, or at least as near as possible.
After much timeconsuming wrangling, THE REP called to tell me the bus would pick us( and others who had booked) up at a nearer point. This was all I had asked for - but what a battle!!!She was never around, she looked unprofessional in her dress-scruffy - compared to the other REPS at the hotel - and she told us very little about the island . She doesn't even speak Spanish. I have not had that kind of treatment with First Choice before, and I am not sure I would go with them again . BUT, I digress... the Riu hotel was wonderful ... and other travel companies use this hotel too. YES, there were lots of Germans - but hey, folks, the war is over - and here's a newsflash- GERMANS LIKE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING, SO YOU CAN RELY ON THEIR GOOD TASTE TO TELL YOU THE RIU PARAISO is a SUPER hotel!

" This was an excellent hotel. The food... "

This was an excellent hotel. The food was excellent with plenty to choose from. The rooms were spotless. The only thing that was poor was the entertainment. If you are under 12 and over 60 this is for you.

The nightclub was empty. Saying that, the entertainment outside the hotel was very good and only a couple of Euros for the taxi. All in all it was a great holiday the weather was great too.

" We spent a week at the hotel in the... "

We spent a week at the hotel in the middle of December. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly.

There are two main restaurants and two speciality restaurants. The meals in the main restaurants were plentiful and although there was a lot of pork on the menu, there was a wide variety of other dishes.

The oriental themed restaurant was very good. Unfortunately, guests were restricted to one visit per speciality restaurant per week - we would like to have gone to this restaurant again. The other speciality restaurant is a grill. This suited me, but my wife found that it was too heavily orientated towards meat dishes for her taste.

The spa treatments are excellent and offer good value.

We would recommend this hotel and would like to return for another holiday there.

The beach is just across the road and there is easy walking in either direction. One way takes you to Puerto del Carmen and the other past Playa Mata Gorgo and on towards the airport. For those who like to watch aircraft take off and land, you can stand right under the flight path at the end of the runway.

" Absolutely fabulous, went with my mum... "

Absolutely fabulous, went with my mum the week before Christmas, my mum is elderly and was treated wonderfully well, she left her bag on the bus from the airport and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, thankfully we got it back. Room was lovely, food great, in fact we were only going for dinner because it was time to, not because we were hungry, there was so much to choose from. Met some lovely people there who were just as impressed as us. Had my hair done on the one rainy day we had, she did a lovely job. Would definitely go again.

" Good Hotel in good location. Weather... "

Good Hotel in good location. Weather pretty good - went cloudy about 4.00 in the afternoon.

All Inclusive option good, food good but could have been hotter. Cooked breakfast not up to scratch really - bacon often cold and someday wasn't any.

Cleanliness of rooms very good but our room was in need of painting in areas. Pools good didn't have to reserve sunbeds - always plenty as well as parasols.

Evening entertainment mainly from the in house team who were very hard working-but could have done with more acts from outside. The evening starts at about 8.00 with children’s entertainment and then 9.00 for adults and then there is nothing else from about 10.30 onwards unless you go to the disco (other part of complex).

Overall though if we got a good deal we would go again as Lanzarote is a very nice place. If you can - go on the submarine from Puerto de Calero about 50e and worth it.

Have to say people staying there had paid a variety of prices - we got a price from the internet, printed it off and trawled the travel agents and got 2 weeks all in (hotel flight package, meals on flight and pre-booked seats) for two people for under £1,000 and that was booking 6 months in advance.

" Stayed for one week in October, very... "

Stayed for one week in October, very impressed. We were greeted on arrival, reception very efficient and polite, very lucky, as our room was a suite, very clean.

The resort is two hotels combined, one seems to be more quieter than the other, only complaint is the reception was such a long walk from our room, they should have a second reception area in the other hotel.

I was very dubious to the all inclusive as have heard stories of poor food quality, but I was pleasantly surprised, it was very good, lots of choice and specials were cooked in front of you so you knew it was fresh!

The staff were amazing, extremely helpful nothing was too much trouble, a credit to the RUI group. The hotel is very short on British tourists its mainly German, unfortunately still insist on the towel on sunbed routine, and in some cases didn't even use them, there are signs around stating this is not allowed, but sadly not enforced, so that is something they should address.

Would certainly recommend this hotel, and will personally look for the Riu name again.

" Hotel=Wonderful, basic but hey... "

Hotel=Wonderful, basic but hey you’re not going to spend much time in it when you go to Lanzarote. There was a safe, and a mini bar... what more could you ask for and an impecable en suite, the cleaners here are fantastic at their jobs everything is so pristine!

Facilities=Massive pool, and they have a gym which you pay for but again this is really cheap, and a quick jog around the pool will do you wonders for fitness, Hair dressers, and sun bed also available during peak holidays which were open when we were there.

Little word of warning let the hairdresser know exactly what you want with your hair, as this woman had a frightful experience that was staying opposite us.

Location=A short walk to the beach, and to all the clubs that puerto del Carmen has to offer! Very good nightlife, loads of events happening and lovely people. You do get hassled outside the clubs to come in, but if you got a sense of humour you can really have fun with them.

Getting free drinks (mostly shots) when you enter the club!

Excursions=You can go camel riding, and definitely take a trip to the vineyards as they give out loads of free wine, I mean glasses and glasses of the stuff, also take a trip up to the mountains the views are fascinating and there is plenty to do for the kids and adults alike.

This holiday is definitely recommended.

" My husband and I went in May. It was... "

My husband and I went in May. It was a fab hotel; very friendly staff. We had a fab room with 2 balconies, very clean with great views. Clean towels everyday by the pool.

The food was good, you can see them cooking in front of you. Entertainment was ok - they work very hard to give you a good time. The only downfall was it was full of German holiday makers and there is not alot to do at night if you don’t like the entertainment. It was quiet when you went out (although it was early on in the season).

It was my husband’s birthday while we were away and a very nice waiter knocked on our door and gave us a bottle of champagne and a compliment slip saying ‘happy birthday’ which we thought was really nice.

Cannot really fault the hotel and only ten minutes from the airport. Very good if you want a quiet holiday with no yobs!

" I stayed at this hotel with my... "

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for a fortnight in September 2006, this was the first time I had travelled to an all inclusive hotel and I would definitely do it again.

I had a fantastic time, so much so I even shed a tear on my last day. It is a fantastic hotel for all ages.

The staff were very helpful and always had a smile on their face. The restaurant was lovely, always clean and a wide range of food to choose from. The specialised restaurants were also lovely and I would definitely recommend them if you visit.

The entertainment was fantastic, with a wide range of activities taking place during the day...I even learned some flamenco dancing, which I still remember today.

All the animation staff were fantastic and very friendly who would never pass without saying hello. The shows at night were also fantastic and were a great way to spend the evening.

There were a few small shops to keep you occupied nearby but the main resort centre was probably about a 20 minute walk at a slow pace. But taxis are easy to come by and quite reasonable priced.

We also found that the zoo which is advertised is literally over the back of the hotel. It was again probably a 20 minute walk but worth while visiting. At the time we were there, they were adding on to it but there was plenty to do and there did not seem to be much disruption.

A great way to spend an afternoon with grownups and children alike.

I would definitely return to this hotel in the future and recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going.

" Genuinely the best time of my life.... "

Genuinely the best time of my life.

I really would recommend this hotel to anyone, it was just magical, and it’s like being a princess for the week in your very own massive palace.

Food was out of this world. Literally I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven. I honestly could not find one thing to complain about, impeccable service, food, area, weather, everything.

I went with my boyfriend and found that it is absolutely great for couples, mainly because it is so spacious that it feels like you're all alone. Well, till you get out to the pool of course!

However, saying that, it would be ideal for families or older couples. Anyone really, it caters for every need!

I went 4 months ago and I still miss it, the cocktails are spectacular too and top tip, at the pool bar (as in the one immersed in the water), ask for a chocolate milk drink, they'll put Bailey's type stuff in there and maybe some vodka if I remember correctly. And put whippy cream on top. You’ll never feel ridiculous, drinking that in the pool is just outrageous, it's such a heavy drink. Ha-ha.

But yes, honestly, I feel that absolutely anyone would adore this hotel, I personally adore the Riu chain and intend to use them as much as possible when I'm on holiday. I just really really wish there was an all inclusive Riu in the Algarve!

Go there, now. Don’t wait. You don't want to miss this experience of a lifetime.

" Went here in November 2005 for a week... "

Went here in November 2005 for a week and it was great.

The staff are superb and can not do enough for you. The hotel is very large as it is two merged into one. One side is slightly plusher than the other but overall the hotel is very clean and very well kept.

The food is very good and there are two buffet restaurants to choose from. In addition there are a further two which you can book into one of which is Chinese and they are still all inclusive.

Fresh towels every day at the poolside and the pools are large and very well kept.

The room we had was well furnished and had a balcony with a sea view. The maids did a great job and little touches like the bed clothes being folded into a heart one day and a star the other made all the difference.

It’s a little bit far from the main part of the resort hence the 9 rating but other than that it would get a 10.

I hate to have to recommend this place to anyone because it will become more popular and therefore not easy to get into, however we have just booked our return trip for 2007 with 14 members of the family for our 25th wedding anniversary, so if there are not many places left for the third week in November 2007 you can blame us :-)

Great hotel, great food, great time.

PS went back this year to a different hotel and resort on the island, took a taxi to the Riu and wished we could have stayed.

" Went to Riu Paraiso on the 12th... "

Went to Riu Paraiso on the 12th October 2006 for a week. As soon as me and my daughter got there we were greeted with very friendly and helpful staff.

Our room was just a standard room but still very comfortable. We had two single beds which were laid out all fancy. Plenty of towels fresh everyday if you wished, and a nice bathroom with a shower over a bath. We had a patio as we were on the ground floor due to my daughter being on crutches.

Maids were in every day and if you did happen to see them, you would always be greeted with a "hola" and a smile.

The pool area is lovely. We stayed in the older part of the hotel. We did see the other pools where the swim up bar was, and it all looked lovely. Plenty of sun beds and umbrellas for everyone. However, I would advise to go down before 10 o' clock and put your towels on your sun beds. Everyone does it! When you arrive, you get a towel card which you exchange for towels with a lovely man down by the pool in the morning. So everyday, you can exchange them for new ones.

The food and drink at this hotel is fantastic! You couldn’t ever starve! breakfast consisted of cereals, all different kinds of breads, fruits, yoghurts, cooked breakfasts, hams and cheeses and so much other stuff! Breakfast was from 8-10am and then there was a continental breakfast option from 10.30-11.30am.

The snack bar was open from around 11.30 till about 4/5pm. Here you get all salads and chips (which were the best I’ve tasted!) selection of other hot and cold food.

All delicious! You can also get lunch from the restaurant. We never ate here but from looking at the menu, there was again an endless choice!

Evening dinner was from 6.00-9.30pm. Again lots and lots of choice. Different menu everyday. Nice starters, lovely mains and gorgeous puddings! (Chocolate ice-cream being my daughter’s fave!) So no-one could ever go hungry here! And of course you can help yourself all day to soft drinks, hot drinks, beer white/rose and red wine. There is a bar where the staff will mix up any cocktails or any other drinks you may wish. Can I just add the staff round the snack/bar area and in the restaurant were brilliant. Plates and empty drinks were taken away very quickly.

The beach is just across the road which is very lovely. The entertainment at this hotel was brilliant! Lots of things to do for the more active guests!

Well I’ve written rather a lot now but all I can say is this is a brilliant hotel. I’d go back tomorrow. Couldn’t fault anything. 5 stars!
