Cecil Hotel

My boyfriend and I were backpacking throughout Europe for 2-3 months during the Summer of '05. We'd booked a budget room at Hotel Fivos, located just a few buildings down the road from Hotel Cecil. The Cecil is good value and clean with pleasant rooms. A mistake billing my credit card was swiftly corrected when pointed out to them and their parent group Ionian hotels. The welcome and service from staff was nothing special but nothing to complain about either. The location of this hotel is a GREAT advantage, you are five minutes from the key sites in Athens so no messing about with metro etc. If you have a room with Air Con it needs a quick call or visit to reception to have it switched on every evening - its not broken ! We stayed here for a couple of nights and found it to be more than adequate for our needs. Its close to Plateia Monastirakiou, a busy and interesting market area. The hotel room itself had tasteful wooden floors, a TV and air-con. The bathroom was fine. If I had one criticism, it would be the sound of the church bells from the opposite side of the road. I had a very nice experience with Hotel Cecil in mid-May 2005. My single room was immaculately clean and neat. The breakfast lounge was lovely and nicely stocked. The location is great and the price is right! The staff were tremendously helpful, very pleasant and friendly. I made telephone contact with the hotel to book my room. I called three times to make sure (as I would do with any hotel) and there was no problem at all. It is a shame that some reviewers had less than nice experiences.
