Great Stay, Great location,

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Herodion. It is in a fantastic location, within minutes of the Acorpolis. Our room had a fantastic view of it especially at night. The room was fine, completly served our needs. However we did book a double bed but we got two singles pushed together but this was barely noticable. Breakfast was very nice and offered a good varity. The staff were excelant. Very friendly and we were allowed to leave some of our bags in storage for three nights while we went to Crete. Restaurants withing 5-10 walk and metro station even closer."

Excellent Hotel

"I can thoroughly recommend this hotel. A great position just 5 minutes walk from the Akropoli Metro station, and from the entrance to the actual Acropolis. Terrific views of the latter from the rooftop terrace (relax in a jacuzzi after a days sightseeing, for the best view).

Beds comfortable, breakfast excellent, staff helpful.

A tip - ask for a room at the back if you want a view of the Acropolis from your bedroom, but the front if you like to sleep in late. The hotel backs onto a school, and the kids make a lot of noise when they arrive in the morning at around 8.15.

Miserable Attitude, Great location

"The location of this hotel is perfect. Mins from the acropolis, Plaka and Metro station. The breakfast was great!.the Jr. Suite was cramped for 2 adults and 2 teens. but if it were just a couple, it would be fine. the view form the small Balcony is amazing.

With all these positves you'd think people would be happy. These people who work here are NOT welcoming at all!! Its SUPER HARD to get a smile. It seemed getting and answer to a question was a chore. If they have a question for you, they gladly ask rudly.

A hotel in any city should be a reflection of the city. if Athens was like the people who work at the Herodion, I'd never go back.

These guys just need to get rid of their grumpy attitudes and be happy they are working, and smile.... cos at the end of the day, they are still getting paid.

Be warned !

"The positives. Good location, clean, reasonable breakfast buffet. The room was on the small side, particularly the bathroom, but this is not unusual for Greece.

Negatives? A new Acropolis museum is under construction. Building work commences at 8am Mon-Sat. Completion is not until the end of 2007. A school is located adjacent to the hotel, between it and the Acropolis. We stayed during a school term. Children arrive from 7:45 and begin playing in the schoolyard. Games include football, basketball and screaming until your lungs rupture. This continues throughout the day, and then afterwards. At 8:15, instead of a school bell, a loud claxon sounds, followed by a guest speaker, bellowing through a PA for 5 minutes. On a Sunday, the near-by church begins ringing bells from 8am. The walls in the room are paper-thin.

If you would like a lie in after a late night, you may struggle.

We left our home city in snow and arrived in a pleasant 70 F Athens. Our room was much warmer. Turning on the air-con, just to cool it down a little in order to acclimatise, we found that it would only produce hot air, despite turning the dial down to 5 degrees C. We opened the window instead and all was fine. Next morning I mentioned this at reception and was informed *It is still winter, you do not need air conditioning, we wont switch it on for you*. To be honest, I was so shocked I forgot to be angry. We are from NE England. What if we were from somewhere colder at this time of year?

Fantastic place to stay

"First time in Athens and really loved the Herodion. The staff are very helpful and professional. The location is perfect - in a very nice area near the Acropolis. Very easy to use the Metro or taxis to get around. The room was very nice - a boutique feel. The breakfast was lovely. I would recommend the hotel to anyone. If they are booked then try their other hotel around the corner."

Simple, Stylish and Nice

"I stayed at this place for six nights and everything was wondeful. The Herodion is located literally around the corner from the Acropolis grounds and is situated on a one way street which is not terribly busy or noisy.

My room was very nice and always cleaned very well. The decor was a little dated but still was kept up. T.V. was not great, although I had BBC and a very faint CNN channel: no pay per view.

There was hi-speed internet (ethernet cable, no wifi) at only six euros a day. The bath room was modern and very clean too. One thing I really remember was the climate control of the room seemed perfect for me, and heat controls worked fast. My room also had a small deck that looked out over the pleasant and clean block. Finally, the lobby was very beautifully done with a cordial staff that spoke a lovely accented english.

If you're going to be visiting the ruins and want a proximity to the center of town, as well as walking distance to the shopping area, this hotel is ideal.

Zen-like décor, immaculate, friendly, great location

"My daughter and I stayed at the Herodion for 8 nights in December. We loved our stay! The staff (reception, bar and restaurant, breakfast room, and housekeeping) were all are attentive, friendly, and professional. The hotel and rooms were immaculate and the beds were indeed comfortable, as others have previously mentioned. Rooms with a view of the Acropolis are at the back. However, the back also adjoins a school playground. As we wanted to nap after our long overseas flight, we opted for a room at the front. We were never bothered by street noise during our entire stay. We loved the spacious, open, Zen-like main floor with it sitting areas and fireplace flanked by bookshelves (stocked with interesting reading material) and its lovely island bar and atrium restaurant with tree growing through the glass roof! The restaurant fare is excellent and the bar serves a fantastic fresh fruit drink. Extensive breakfast buffet with freshly prepared hot and cold food is included in the price of the room. The location of the hotel is wonderful too. The excellent new Acropolis Museum is just a few blocks away (next to the Acropolis Metro station) and the marvelous LaLounis Jewelry Museum (with café and gift shop) is in the opposite direction, just up the street and around the corner on the way to the lovely Pedestrian Way, which encircles the Acropolis. Shops and tavernas in Plaka are within easy walking distance. For a snack or a hearty country lunch of soup, salad, stew, or stuffed tomatoes and peppers, with delicious fresh country bread, you cannot do better than at the unpretentious "To Kati Allo" just down the street from the hotel to your left. Seek out the bakery "Artopoiotis O Takis" in a small wedge-shaped building on nearby Zitrou Street; here I found the same marvelous bread served at "To Kati Allo," as well as traditional Greek Christmas cookies which they packed for my flight home. [Notes of caution re BOOKING DAY TOURS. Ask hotel reception to ask tour company to specify their pick-up arrangements before booking! We were picked up for a tour to Delphi by Chat/GO tours (it seems that in winter the tour companies collaborate) at 7:40am and then spent 40 minutes (!) picking up other passengers before returning to a depot only a few blocks from our hotel, where we were all asked to change to another bus before heading out of town.]"

Loved the Herodion!!!

We visited this hotel on our honeymoon in July (so this write up is a few months late). This hotel was a welcome sight upon arrival after a long flight and early flight from London. The staff were so helpful and welcoming. The accommodations were wonderful and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The location was key. It was minutes away from the Acropolis and very close to the metro stop. There were restaurants everywhere. If you're looking for a great homestyle restaurant just head down the street and opposite the construction of the new museum you'll find the best souvlaki plate and french fries of all time.

I would go back to this hotel anytime I'm in Athens. It is the best deal for your money with a wondeful staff, great amenities and excellent breakfast. Stay here and see for yourself!

Location, location, location

"We were upgraded to the Herodian after the booking company we used made an error in our original booking. The Herodian is in a great location, steps away from the Acropolis and the Plaka as well as the Akropolis stop on the Metro. It is on a quiet street and has two decks with views to the Acropolis. The bed was very comfortable which was great after a long day of sightseeing. The staff was professional if not exactly warm. Not a lot of personality but a good choice for professional service and good location to major sights."

Lovely hotel, great Acropolis views

"Three days in Athens and stayed at the Herodion which has just been refurbished, very clean, very friendly staff. Great views of the Acropolis which is nearby and also very close to the Plaka area - restaurants and shopping. Spent some hours relaxing in the roof top spa's and had a great stay. The buffet breakfast is one of the best."
