Staff were really friendly and the excursions offered were excellent and good value. Food was good, with plenty of choice in the buffet. The a la carte restaurants were excellent, especially the Italian.
Main attraction for us was the beach side location and that lots of free water sports were offered on site, e.g. wind surfing, kayaking, catamaran sailing, boogie boarding.
The room was simple but kept clean and well stocked with drinks every day.

" Lovely hotel worthy of a 4* rating.... "

Lovely hotel worthy of a 4* rating. Hotel was kept very clean. Good choice of food in main buffet restaurant. A further 2 a la carte restaurants are available - Italian and Mexican. Food in these 2 restaurants was OK but food in main restaurant was just as good, if not better. Daytime entertainment was very good - dance lessons, aqua aerobics, bingo, football, water polo etc - something for everyone. Evening entertainment was also good and staff organised various competitions which proved popular with guests. Hotel staff were very friendly and did their best to help where possible.
The hotel offers good free facilities such as pool towel hire, sports equipment hire (including canoes, boogie boards, mini catamarans), gym, sauna & steam rooms and tennis court hire. The hotel has a beauty salon and hairdressers. This is at a cost but is very reasonable. The hotel also offers Internet access and the use of a local, on-site doctor.
The main resort of Cabarete is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. You can walk there along the beach or via the road.
Cabarete is very nice with a beautiful beach and has a good choice of restaurants if you choose not to eat at the hotel every day. A couple of doors away from the hotel is the Tropicoco. This is an excellent restaurant with very friendly staff. Prices here are fairly average but the excellent food and service make it well worth a visit. There is also a German restaurant in the main resort of Caberete. The tables sit next to the path and from the outside it doesn't look much. However, this restaurant offers a huge range of choice at very low prices and the food is fantastic.
Thompson trips were very good and offer something for everyone. Due to the standard of driving by locals you are advised not to hire a car. This is very wise but if you have a family this could mean that the trips prove expensive. Iguana Mama situated on Cabarete beach is also worth a look. They offer trips of a more adventurous nature such as cascading, mountain biking, trekking etc.
You do find that locals will try to sell you local produce on the beach. This is not unique to Cabarete and is part of their way of life. They are polite and will go if you say no thank you. There are no major water sports on Cabarete beach so you will have to travel to a resort further up the coast if this is what you're looking for.
The nightlife in Cabarete is fairly good and the best places tend to be localised bars where you experience local culture. Prices are not really cheap and tend to be similar to the UK in most of the larger bars.
The only negative side to the hotel is that they allow locals to use the hotel at the weekends. This means that the restaurant, bar area and pool all become very busy. However, if you know this in advance you can plan trips and days out for this time.
Overall a very nice hotel with lots to do if you tend to get bored by the pool.

" Have visited the Dominican North... "

Have visited the Dominican North & South and had wonderful hols in 4* hotels, but were disappointedly sold this holiday by Thomson’s as 4 * accommodation however it really should be rated as 3 * the rooms offer fridge, hairdryer etc but that’s it.
The Viva chain sell timeshare so the hotel has only 60% capacity for tourists, the other 40% is owned by locals who converge on site from midday Fri to Sun so that is the only time the place is full, and yes you will get hassled most politely but unremittingly in the lobby, outside the dining room, by the pool, and on your sunbeds on the beach to attend the presentation. The Canadian holidaymakers were informed of this but our rep - Steve - informed us on the way to the hotel and at the welcome meeting that the place was full, didn’t mention the timeshare guys in situ.
No private beach - Cabarete has only the municipal beach for all hotels so consequently is full of hawkers trying to sell trinkets, hair braiding, massages, papers, jewellery, hats and you will be approached constantly.
Only 1 bar. You can help yourself to pop/beer in the Italian restaurant which doubles as a snack bar but all served in plastic cups at all times, you will only get glasses in the restaurants at meal times.
The food offers something for everyone breakfast being the best deal - no bacon however even when requested - the reply was no and we were pointed in the direction of frankfurters and mashed potato! They do supply a chef to cook your eggs though.
The a la carte restaurants - Mexican, not open every night due to ongoing painting. Italian I thought was best service. Both have limited menus and no air conditioning or fans in these or the main restaurant so beware.
Entertainment - provided by animation team to the best of their ability.
This is a 3* hotel by the beach not a complex. There is no room to escape if you want a quiet 5 minutes, only the 1 pool with the shallow end for children and the deep end for water polo etc.

This was a lovely hotel. The rooms were very clean. The pool was nice. The restaurants were very clean. Food was nice, plenty to eat and drink all day and night.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of entertainment day and night and a club open as late as you can carry on drinking.

" We went to the hotel on our honeymoon... "

We went to the hotel on our honeymoon and it was a real mixed bag. We were upgraded to the best suit right at the front overlooking the pool and beach with a huge balcony. However, hotel wise that was as good as it got.
There is zero to do in the evenings. The 'entertainment' is very poor and although it only lasted for an hour that was way long enough! There was lots of variation with the food on offer but it was all pretty poor - as for the drinks they were disgusting sugary syrup and the wine was like gone off Lambrini. An all inclusive week drinking water - great!
Cabaret is a filthy town with constant harassment from often menacing looking locals.
The beach is nice enough but not exactly paradise.
Excursions, however were excellent so that made the week worth while in some respects.
To sum up, if you're happy to travel 11 hours from the UK to sit by the pool and not have the option of doing much else then go. Personally I'll be sticking to Europe where I can spend my holiday being able to leave my hotel, without being in fear of my life, and really explore a resorts beaches & culture, as well as go for meals in different restaurants.

We were advised that this hotel was suited in a beautiful location that was very peaceful during the day and had a good atmosphere in the evening. The location to be fair was beautiful, however there was absolutely nothing to do out at the hotel and Cabarete was not the cleanest or most attractive place in the world.
The staff were terrible- especially the animation team- they were very amorous towards women and would not leave you alone. I was extremely disappointed with them! The private beach was again beautiful, but everyday there was at least 12 locals trying to sell cheap products for extortionate prices on the beach.
The hotel didn't mind this or the fact that they would not accept no for an answer. Several couples were there for 14 days and did not use the beach for this very reason. Food was quite good and some of the excursions were extremely fun. To sum up, decent hotel, terrible staff, lack of entertainment, beautiful setting, unfriendly and extremely rude culture. Would not go back.
Would only advise holiday there for a one week vacation on a substantially discounted offer.

Fantastic all inclusive resort. Very friendly and helpful staff from the beginning to the end of our holiday. The resort had 3 restaurants which were all very good but our favourite was the Italian (and most importantly the Lasagne!!). Entertainment staff and the nightly presentation was excellent, even though after a weeks worth of miming can get a bit much!!
On the negative sides - Only 1 bar, so get a few drinks in at one time (the Rum is excellent). The male staff can be a bit letchy especially around the young girls..so keep an eye on them. But all in all we had an excellent holiday, with superb food, loads of drink and best of all the Sun and the heat.

The food at the hotel was so bad, breakfast was about the only time we actually ate there, and survived on yogurts and omelettes (who eats stewed pumpkin for breakfast), we ate out every night of our 2nd week (defeats the purpose of all inclusive) and at a lovely restaurant called Casa Nova, situated on the beach at Cabarete.
The "Viva" staff are just over the top, they don't leave you alone, you cannot relax at the pool without someone coming up behind you, and tickling your ear, they constantly go on about their Showtime which wasn't anything to get excited about.
We just wanted to get away from this place as much as possible. Fortunately we hung out at the kite surfing school nearby (LEK), who were a lovely bunch of guys and were totally chilled out.
This hotel is bad for food and entertainment but our room was fine and it was clean.
