Astor Hotel Athens

The service in this less than mediocre hotel was horrible. We stayed here one night in May and one night a few days ago. The hotel clerks in the lobby were not helpful at all, they were not friendly and did not care for you whatsoever. Because of their rudeness and inconsideration, we all missed our flights. It was five of us and we had 2 rooms. We had called the night before checking out to ask for a wake up call and mentioned we were going to the airport in the morning. They said no problem. We stayed in this hotel in May 2005. While it is a 4 star hotel, the rooms look like Econolodge, or Motel 6. The towels and blankets are clean, but old and unpleasant. The service lady is nice, does a good job cleaning, but it doesn't help much. The clerks in the lobby are indifferent, if not mean. Bathrooms - ok, clean, and not very small. Bad shampoo and soaps though. While in Greece, I traveled the country with a tour group. This was the the second worst of the hotels we stayed at while there. The Astor has poor road access, though if traveling via bus or metro, it is quite close to both stops. The only saving grace for the hotel is the spectacular view in the mornings from the rooftop restaurant (VERY overpriced at night and terrible breakfast foods) was the view. I stayed there in the late 80s and again in 1994. I was a bit worn, but overall the best deal in Athens. 4 star location. Loved the view of the Parthenon from the room and view of the Plaka from the top floor restaurant. Will write again once I've stayed there this coming Oct.

EXCELLENT LOCATION! Just a few blocks from the Plaka and just about anything else in the city. Rooms are adequate size but bathrooms are small. Maid service daily and very clean rooms. The lobby area tended to be very smoky at times. The rooftop garden complimentary breakfast was great with a stunning view of the acropolis. I would stay in this hotel again!

While visiting Athens, we stayed in the Astor Hotel. The hotel is very old, stinks and is way over priced. It is considered an A-class hotel but that is not my opionion at all. We moved to the Cypria which has a better location, nicer, the front desk has a personality and they were better priced.
