I just got back yesterday from a week with my friend and we found the apartments to be very good value for the price we paid. Our trip was short notice extremely cheap and our aim was to get as much sun as possible. The weather was fantasic so we only ventured off our loungers when the sun went down. The apartment was clean and spacious and cleaning staff also lovely. We found the ladies in the reception and bar to be very friendly and always accomodating. We ordered breakfast every day from the cafe/Bar ( special deal if you order for 5 days or more )and had dinner once there and had absolutely no complaints. Drinks were also very cheap from the cafe/bar and they stock basics like milk bread water if you are catering for yourself. We did hear a few people where complaining about service etc but feel that these people were expecting to pay 2 star prices for 5 star service. As for getting our deposit back we checked to ensure that reception was open in advance and had no issues. I will definately book another week next year to stay here as I enjoyed the location very much.

Just back having stayed in Playa Pocillos and i can promise we will not go back. Appartments were a good distance from Matagorda Centre and the beach which both myself and my husband found disappointing, rooms were dull and drab, in need of a lot of TLC. Reception never seemed to be open when you needed them and if you hire something out for the week from reception make sure you hand it back the night before you leave because if you have to make an early flight guess what reception is closed and you do not get your deposit back. The appartment wasent very clean, cutlery and dishes were very dirty.

Pease do not book into this place!!!!!
We have stayed here on several occasions OVER the last 10 years.I have booked to go to Matsagorda again in June 2011 BUT I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THESE APARTMENTS.
the last time we stayed there was around 5 years ago. OMG what a change!!!! i was really looking forward to a nice friendly stay as usual........BUT ....
the bedding is still the same from the first time we stayed there in 2001 (little green palm trees which do not fit the beds),the rooms are basic but ok which i dont mind
the pool sun beds are all cracked and never cleaned and the little white plastic tables were never cleaned they were disgusting, full of stians, sticky and generally filthy, the pool was not cleaned at night as it used to be.maybe once a week .. which is not good???
THE POOL BAR STAFF >>>>> OMG
the pool bar staff are all be britsh, I have never met such a rude bunch of ladies in all my years of travelling Julie one of the staff was extreemly rude, nasty and very unpleasant, they had no interestat all in giving a good friendly service, none of them ever smiled , none of the bar staff had any time for you and the food wasnt really that good ...the little cafe bars in the centre 5 minutes away are far superior..and you get excellent service there!!! with a smile !!!
i am not normally a fussy person and can live with the little things you come across when self catering, but never again
we met a lovely family from Belfast who booked out in the middle of thier stay and moved to another hotel. so this must sum it up for you.
would NOT recommend this place at all now !! very sad to see that they have let things go to the dogs,
never AGAIN !!!

We have just returnes from a weeks break here (nov 2010).
If you are thinking of using this accomodation please do so. I read the reviews about this place but we only paid £400 for two of us for a week so we were not expecting 5star plasma tvs etc etc etc.
On arrival, staff fine, friendly english speaking. Room 31 was lovely, ground floor, not any noise from upsatairs at all. Beds clean, linen clean, plastic sheets which we had to remove as they woke my partner up every time he turned over on the first night ( noisy and crackly! Not a problem to us though. The beds are a little uncomfortable again for us we have a great bed at home and these are not the same but once more certainly nothing to go and complain about.
Food was decent, Sunday lunch was ok not what your mum would make but was tasty and hot.
Drinks served were fine, happy hour between 4 and 6 so we were happy to have a few drink in our room.
The room was spacious, with a table and chairs, setee, chair and coffee table. we had plenty of cooking utensils to cook with and we did so on quite a few occsasions doing breakfast and spag bols on a night time.
We did eat out a few times at various bars, the best restaurant we found was about 15mins walk towards Playa del Carmen next to the tapas bar. Cant recall the name but it had a large tank at the rear with fresh crab and lobster inside. Food was superb and reasonably priced.
Some places can be quite pricey, we also used First and Last Bar (irish Bar) in Matagorda Centre. Very pleasant scottish lady who was vey helpful and does a lovely burger!
We will definatley go back to Matagorda and if you are into cycling take some gear with you. Lovely coastal paths purposely for cycling. Agree with those who say get a taxi, cost us 10 euros and took 5 mins.
We would use this apartment again but i heard they are trying to sell most of them off now privately. They are in a lovely location, pool is nice and clean, loungers were fine, and very pretty settings with palms and flowers. There are a number of cats at the complex which are friendly.
The rooms are a little dated i guess with their main colours being green and yellow. I suppose they are a bit behind the timesbut what do you expect for that price!
PS The beach is fabulous, lovely velevt golden sand... (currently -7 in England!!!)

Not exactly the Ritz, but after a few initial hitches and having to move to another Apartment within Playa Pocillos it was ok. Food terrible. Poolside was lovely and very peaceful, but sun loungers were never cleaned, actually filthy. Staff could do with some training in people skills. Our Holiday Representative (Paul)was fantastic, unbelievably helpful, he could give some tips to staff at Playa Pocillos

Ants in your pants!

On arrival the staff at Playa Pocillos told us there were problems with the tiles in our room and moved us to a neighbouring hotel The Club Valena Apartments for one night.
When we finally were allowed into our room in Playa Pocillos ( no evidence of fixed tiles) my first thoughts were shabby! We were very disappointed by the standard compared to The Club Valena Apartments. But mostly we were disappointed by a swarm of ants in the bath room and hairs all over the floor and sweets stuck to the floor and graffiti. We asked for the room to be cleaned, we even asked for a broom so we could clean it ourselves but all they could do was offer us a can of ant killer spray. So we showered in an ant filled bathroom and walked among the hairs. The next day we were assured that the room would be cleaned thoroughly... it was not! There were still dead ants all over the floor sweets and hairs.
It's not that we don't expect to see bugs in Lanzerote, its the fact that a bathroom floor of dead insects and hair were not cleaned away.
Playa Pocillos was so disappointing that we moved back to Club Valena.
For the same price Club Valena was pristine, the fixtures were all immaculate and looked new, and the pool was clean and quiet. There was a flat screen TV and ceiling fan in the bedroom, the pots and pans were all new and the bathroom was beautiful. In Playa Pocillos they charge guests to rent a battered portable fan and use an old TV set, all the crockery and pots looked like they had been there for at least 20 years! The pool was nice but busy and you have to get up early to get your towel on a sun bed. Maybe room 45 was particularly shabby so make sure you dont have this room.
Club Valena was heaven in comparison.

Playa Pocillos Apartments

18th March 2010.
Just returned from our 4th visit to Playa Pocillos and have to report that whilst the accommodation is spotlessly clean and quite inexpensive, their standards have dropped since our first visit 3 years ago.
The apartments are simple and quite basic but there is an urgent need for kitchens and bathrooms to be updated. Bedding is clean but the sheets are annoyingly too small for the divans and this causes slightly uncomfortable nights. The place is quiet but the peace is disturbed by music from the poolside bar and whilst this is not offensive or particularly loud, the tape is never replaced and repeats itself too often.
Car hire is best aranged on arrival at the airport as it is significantly more expensive when arranged through the apartment complex.
If you are looking for a quiet relaxed holiday on a budget, Playa Pocillos is ideal - they need only modernise a little to make it unbeatable.

Much needed break

We just got back from Playa Pocillos and enjoyed a lovely break The apartments were functional and clean. However the kitchen area was in urgent need of updateing. The doors wre in bits, the sink unit area was falling apart However there was a toaster and kettle and this fulfilled our need as we ate out I would not like to be cooking in the kitchen. The beds were clean and the towels were changed every other day. The cleaning staff were friendly a pity about the receptionist she was down right rude thankfully we did not require her services. The pool was clean and there was plenty of sunbeds the matress were 1 euro a day.
Travel into main town by Bus 2.30 each way for 2 adults Taxi about 7 euro
Very near to the airport but this does not cause a problem no great noise factor
Overall these apartments are functional but not the Ritz.
