This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my entire life! PLEASE do not waste your money on such a bad hotel - looks can be deceiving. On the surface, this hotel looked very nice, and our first impressions were good. The hotel was large and well decorated, but that was where the good things ended.
When we first arrived, we were not informed at all that there was a problem with the water in the local area. We only found this out when we tried to freshen up after our early morning flight. For the whole of the first day there was no running water at all!!! Then when the water did come on in the evening it was brown! OK so a water problem in the local village is not the hotel's fault, but there was no communication to guests about what was happening, only by the Saturday afternoon did the hotel make guests aware. Posters went up in both Spanish and English informing guests and putting bottles of water in the rooms. This was good customer service, but only after arguing with reception that they needed to do more to find out how long the water problem was going to take. We got the impression they were not bothered at all.
As if either no water or dirty water wasn't bad enough, in the first few hours of being at the hotel, our room key / cards were cancelled THREE times!!! After more shouting matches with the hotel reception, it transpired they had given one of our rooms to someone else by mistake so had taken the liberty of cancelling all of our room key / cards! At first they tried blaming us that we had put our card near our mobile phones which apparently wipes out the strip on the back, but this was not the case. By ten o'clock on the Friday evening I was ready to go home, especially when I had to use wet wipes bought from the local supermarket to freshen up from such a long tiring day as the water was clearly dirty. By Saturday morning I decided to put up with the brown water and have a shower anyway. I just didn't look at the colour of the water!
On Saturday morning we went downstairs to try the breakfast. The price was in our opinion daylight robbery (15 Euros plus tax) but due to our very limited Spanish we were limited in where we could go for breakfast. The breakfast was very nice, a buffet which included both continental and full English, but nowhere near worth 15 Euros. However, we did find that food throughout Madrid was very expensive anyway.
The only plus side to this hotel is that it is very close (5 mins' walk) to the metro station 'Ciudad Lineal' which is on the green line which takes you directly into the centre of Madrid. You can buy a ticket with 10 journeys on for 7 Euros, and can use it in such a way that if you are travelling together you can share it - you go through with the ticket, then pass it back to your companion to use. Our Spanish friend assured us this was fine, and the barriers at your destination do not require you to put the ticket through to let you out.
To summarise, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - you certainly get what you pay for and in all we felt this hotel should be renamed 'Fawlty Towers'. When we asked for the manager at one point (who was conveniently never around) we fully expected Basil Fawlty to pop up! I have stayed at many hotels and I know that there is always a duty manager available, but we were refused this right.
