Date of stay: 27th March to 31st March 2010 When we arrived we were shown to a room right beside the bar. The room itself was fine, clean and tidy, if a little rustic, furnished in "authentic Turkish" style, with an ensuite shower only. There was, however, a lot of noise... more

This is a lovely hotel, very nicely priced. The rooms aren’t very spacious but they are cleaned everyday. There is a roof top restaurant as well as a restaurant joined onto the hotel. Room service is free, and if you don’t feel like going out, you can always go to the... more

Different room quality - first and other floors
We booked this hotel for 2 nights, the price was awesome - specially after 10% discount - when pay in cash on arrival - total 144EUR for 2 DBL/2 nights/with BB. We even booked transfer from airport - for 20EUR - but it didn't show after 40 minutes of waiting. We called reception and they said wait another 5 minutes, which we did, but still nothing...so we took taxi (for same price). Maybe because of this dissapointment they gave us rooms - as to punish us :) They were located on 1st floor, one room was big and spacy, other was half the size - only bed and tiny bathroom. Overall it was clean and ok, but when we saw other ooms in above floors - it was like day and night. We had 3* quality and design, upstairs - was really palace type - 4*. We felt disappointed but as our primary interest in Stambul was the city, we didn't bother changing the rooms. After all - price was ok, we had our beds, bathrooms, it was clean, the breakfast was ok, the location of the hotel was perfect - some 10 minutes walking to all the top see places!
Istanbul 2008....
We spent 4 nights at this hotel, and we were very impressed with the hotel. It was just how we expected it. The staff was nice, our rooms were nice too... It was very clean, and had a very friendly atmosphere within the Hotel. Its in a good location, Blue Mosque, Aya Sophie, Topkappi and Grand Bazaar are in walking distance... Would recommend it to people. Would I stay there again? Yes..
Oh Dear, not what we expected at all
The staff were very pleasant, but that's about the only positive thing I can say really. The original room we were offered was so small, certainly not the "Quad Room with balcony" that the internet pictures depicted! There had been a leak and the wall behind the door was damp. There was no way we were going to stay in that one, to be fair they eventually agreed to move us to a newer part of the hotel (beware if you are put in the older part). The second room was adequate, but was spoiled by the smell, not obvious reason, but seeing other reviews today i suspect it was due to recent rain. The shower room had no ventilation, so it smelt continually of damp. The view from the room was very curious, no mention of the somewhat dilapidated buildings surrounding the place, nor the massive ground works construction going on next door! Instanbul itself certainly is worth visiting, but don't have too high expectations of the star rating of the hotels. I'm going 5 star or nothing next time!
New renovations look great. !
Once again back in Istanbul.. I travel from Melbourne Australia on a regular basis to Istanbul and look for traditional hotels with history nearby.. The Ipek Palace hotel gives you just that charm.. It is clean and service is fantastic. In the evening, just walk out the door and you'll see many small restaurants and cafes and its near all public transport. I have been there several times infact i am writing a second review on trip advisor. The management has renovated the the hotel and it just looks fantastic. The rooms are clean (i was in the single bedroom) and breakfast is at the top of the building where you can see the bosphoras and the ancient city of Istanbul I had a great time there and always look froward to going back.. Well done to team and management at Ipek palace. I hope your experience is as good.. : )
Good location. Not very comfortable though!
Stayed at the Ipek after seeing good reviews on Tripadvisor. The hotel is well located for Galata Bridge, Spice Market, Grand Bazaar and all the Sultanahmet attractions which is great. On the plus side, it was very clean and tidy and the breakfasts are good. Staff were generally helpful and always friendly. On the down side the rooms are tiny. My recommendation is if you go as a couple and don't mind usng twin beds for a couple of days - book the twin bed option. Your room will be much more spacious and comfortable for it. Our original room (they moved us after our 3rd night) was TINY. Clean and tidy - but absoloutely tiny! The double bed was slightly smaller than your average (Queen size I think) and jutted up against the wall on one side. On this side right next to the bed were 2 light switches and an electric socket. God knows why! This consequently meant that everytime the person by the wall rolled over in the night they hit the light switch and all the lights came on. Very annoying after the 4th time! (We're not exactly huge people either!) Coupled with this the beds were hugely uncomfortable. Very hard and not the comfort that was needed after a manic day walking around Istanbul. There are plus and minus points to this place, like everywhere. For the money - i'd say it's ok. But all in all our experience was a very average stay.
loved
This was a fantastic hotel Average rooms are ok which was incredibly spacious and functional, as well as having undisturbed views of the Bosphorus and (in the distance) of Sultanhamet. While you will need a taxi to go to most places, location is ideal. On the Bosphorus with great views, 3-7 mins to Sultanahmet, 5-10 minutes to Taksim, 15-20 minutes to Levent. The service is great.
Great location
Stayed there in May 2008. Hotel location was great, but there are tons of other hotels in the area. The hotel was undergoing serious restauration at that time, so there was dust everywhere. The rooms were quite small, but clean. Ipek is very close to all the important sites in Istanbul and also restaurants and pubs.
excellent hotel
I stayed from 25 august till 01 of september in the ipek hotel in Istanbul Kirceki. This hotel is very near located at the most important istanbul historic places. There is a tram line in 200 meter from the hotel which bring you in 20 minutes downtown Taksim. Take the tram to Aksabastas and then chance to the take kabelmetro 1 stop to taksim. in my earlier staying in Istanbul hotels it cost me a lot of money because I have to travel a lot with taxi's and maybe some of you know the traffic in istanbul is very chaotic and a lot of traffic jams. There fore was traveling by tram a good solution and they coming every 10 minutes. It is possible to eat in the hotel, there you have a nice view over the marmara sea. I eat mostly outside but 1 time it gives me some stomic and bowl problems if you know what I mean. There are these guys from restaurants who are trying to convince you to eat at there counter. But sometimes the food is doubtfull so be carefull where you eat, because there a lot of these so called restaurants. My stay in the hotel was more than pleasant, the employees from the counterdesk speaks very good english and provided excellent service. i was in many hotels and I realy feld at home at Ipek palace. It was also a good environment to have some bussines talks Mister Muslum has a great team, not evryone speaks English in the hotel, but there is alway's someone stanby to take over in english and if I compare the price whit the service, The price of the rooms where in balance with the quality. I was in more expensive hotels, that can not reach the service from Ipek hotel the rooms and the bathroom were very very clean, the shower area is maybe a little bit to small if you are a bodybuilder. It is alway's a surprise for me if I go to a new hotel, but this hotel saves me money because I did not need all the expensive taxis for the city. It is very difficult to communicate in english with the local Turkish people. mostly the higher educated speaks very good english. but the turkish people will always try to help you at their best But be aware of the traffic they have in turkey another driving ethos then european country's. Sometimes you really have to run for your live. travels en walking to grandbazar is 10 minutes or so. Trainstaion is in walking distance from the Hotel i can reccommend this hotel to every one oh and also very important. The same tram near the hotel goes to Zey.......? i forgot the name, there you have to change for the train that brings you to the Ataturk airport, it cost in total 2,80 ytl instaed of taxi 35,00 ytl The Ipek Palace hotel is a good representation for Turkey So keep on the good work mr Muslum and team next time I come again. Ramon
not convinced
great location, if you want to see old sites and tourist attractions. not so good for restaurants. hotel still not finished, average breakfast, great view from breakfast floor over the bosphoros. but a bit unprofessional and unorganized, plus some things in the room did not function very well, for example a safe that was not fixed to the wall... and no practical information in the room and pretty much no english speaking staff.
Excellent, You Cannot Go Wrong
I wrote an earlier review which seems to have vanished. Let’s give it another try. My wife and I booked the Ipek Palas Hotel in Istanbul after doing some research online, including Tripadvisor. After confirming that the renovations complained of by some reviewers were indeed completed, we booked a stay of 6 nights (end of July) and it turned out to be an excellent decision. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION As a first time visitor to Istanbul, a central location in the old town of Sultanahmet was essential. We couldn’t have picked a better spot. Hotel Ipek Palas is a 5-10 minute lazy walk to the main attractions- Blue Mosque/ Topkapi Palace/ Haghia Sophia. 15 minutes walk would get you to Eminonou. It is also 1 minutes walk (just around the corner) to the Sikerci tram station. We walked most days as we are a young couple but used the tram to get to further destinations like Taksim (new town). Hotel is surrounded by restaurants/ cafes with menus to suit all tastes and budgets. Location was, in a word, excellent. HOTEL ITSELF Building: Modern and newly renovated so one cannot have any complaints. Rooms: Not the biggest rooms but fully air conditioned and spotlessly clean with modern bathrooms. It’s not the Ritz for sure, and it is not luxurious, but for the price you pay, you are getting more than your money’s worth. Breakfast: Breakfast in lovely roof restaurant with excellent views of the Bosphorus, and main sights. Perfect start to the day. Also a breakfast buffet spread to cater to all tastes- fresh juices and fruit, cereal and yoghurts, a huge selection of bread and pastries, hot food (sausages/ potatoes/ etc), the breakfast set us up well for each day we were there. Internet: Free Wifi available and a computer with internet access for free use in the lobby. Staff: Friendliness of staff was a real highlight. (Turkish people in general are ultra friendly). There was a reception desk chap (Firat) who was there almost 24 hours a day for the many days we were there (due to a fellow staff member being off) but he had a smile for us each day. Save yourself some money and book with this hotel. You cannot go wrong.
