Arrived at appartment at 10pm, said hello a number of times, because the receptionist was behind the semi circle wall watching a football match and couldn't be called away. Finally booked in and were directed to our appartment. When entered appartment was confronted with loads of cockroaches every where. Looked in bedroom, a huge hole in the wall, so shabby. Who puts lamanate flooring in a hot climate rental property. Decided then and there I wouldnt stay. Told the receptionist that I wasnt pleased with my room, and I didnt want to stay. I was told "thats your choice your the customer, do what you want." I said "my appartment was infected with cockraoches and disgusting, The receptionist mimicked me saying "disgusting" i asked the name of the Thomas Cook Rep and was told by receptionist that he didnt know reps name, they change every day. I asked the receptionist name and he replied "Just call me manuell". Left Hotel that night and booked finally into another hotel at 11:30PM! Thomas Cook were dealing with other complaints about cockroaches when I finally sopke to rep two days later. I was told that particular appartments had a real problem with infestation, but it seems that T.C. doesnt mention it in the brochure and just move you to another room not another hotel. I personally wouldnt have put my dog in that Puerto Tahiche. Although I was told there was a problem with cockroaches every where, I didnt see one in the holtel I moved to, and I did ask english speakers when out if they had a problem with these insects and many said no.

We arrived late evening and was given a ground floor apartment, no lights, ants, only 2 pillows between the 4 of us and the wrong key to the safety deposit box. the balcony door would of been easily opened from the out side if it wasn't for the fact that it was jammed !!! Next morning we asked the male reception staff if we could be moved to another apartmentbut he informed us he had to speak with the house keeping staff first to see if there was another room available, on our way back through reception approx 5 mins later my wife asked the female reception lady the same question to which she automatically gave us a key to another apartment and said have a look and if you like it you can move straight away, this did seem to be common throughout the holiday the lady was helpful and the male was unhelpful. We moved to the other apartment which was on the 2nd floor of Block F, No ants or cockroaches during our stay. The apartment was in need of some decoration and very limited utensils i.e. only 1 teaspoon and 2 cups. No restaurant onsite, pools very cold and yes there is the usual problem of the towels on sunbeds left empty until late morning/early afternoon. We visited the water park which was enjoyable, went on the "short south tour" with a company which gives out leaflets while on the beach which was much cheaper than the reps, (who give you scare stories about if you have an accident you wont be able to claim because you dont have a guide) we also did the Teguise market trip through the Bulldog pub which is in fact the same coach company (Customer Travel) which did the " short south tour" and others. Beach was good but very windy, lots of local shops/restaurants for all tastes. Not all the local restaurants open on sunday nights and some only open for drinks.

Stayed at the tahiche appartments for...

Aug 2008, Mrs S Ritchie

Stayed at the tahiche appartments for the first two weeks in august with my husband and two children age 7 and 3. Appartments are basic and in need of updating. However were a good base for a self catering holiday and for the price I paid i cant complain. We had a Stunning seaview from the appartment which was in block 2. Thankfuly we did not see any cockroaches during our stay at the tahiche. There are 2 swimming pools and a kids pool which are all very clean as is the reception and bar areas. The hotel staff were fantastic and the entertainers really done a great job keeping the kids amused. Costa teguise is a lovely place very hot but also very windy which took a bit of getting used to. Went on a few trips during our stay. The Short south tour to timanfaya national park was good the volcanos are amazing. Went over to fuertaventura for the day not really that much to see although the beach was stunning if your into beaches. the texas ranch park is great for kids crocodiles, tigers etc. Kids loved it. You can also take the bus to puerto del carmen costs about 8 euros for 2 adults and 2 kids buses run every 20 mins all day. Its not as windy there so feels much hotter. Thought the supermarkets in costa teguise were very expensive so if your on a tight budget take your own cearals and snacks for the kids etc. We really enjoyed our stay in costa teguise and would certainly go back to the tahiche appartments. I would be interested to see the improvements that are made as the appartment are closing in november for refurbishments.

Aug 2008, Mrs L McKeever

just returned from Puerto Tahiche apartments. what can i say. beautiful resort, shame about the apartments.
arrived about 10 o'clock to our room in block 4. room infested with cockroaches and ants. toilet wouldnt flush. tried to get some sleep which proved difficult with two young children shouting every two minutes that they had seen another one crawling over their bed. complained about the apartment next morning and requested to be moved. which the reception staff did with no problems or hassle. new apartment much better no crawlies anywhere. although the apartment was very shabby and had an unusual odour in the bathroom!!!!!!
reception staff very helpful and pleasant, night entertainment not bad, kids really enjoyed it.
apartments in great location for everything, beach, restaurants and shops.
would definately return to costa teguise but not to the apartments.

Hotel was really nice. Large, clean...

Aug 2008, Bamble

Hotel was really nice. Large, clean room with a beautiful view across the beach. Very good for watching the sun rise. Pool area was always nice and clean. Didn't seem to be much of interest in the entertainment.
The beach was also clean and not packed full of people, a few annoying "looky looky" men though. It's ok if you just pretend to be asleep when they get near you! There's also a really nice chippy near the beach which gets it's fish from Grimsby if you are homesick!
Quite a bit to do around - the aquarium is pretty good if the weather isn't great. We also got a taxi to the Waterpark. It was a horrible day weather-wise which meant not many people had gone and we didn't have to queue for any of the slides. We also went with the tour operaters on an excursion to a market. The market was rubbish - a couple of crafty stalls but mostly tat. But it was in a lovely quaint village with a castle overlooking it which was nice.
Restaurants varied. Don't be put off if a restaurant looks empty. We went to one that looked busy and it was overpriced and not very good. The restaurants where we had the best meals always seemed to be the quiet ones.
It was a shame the weather wasn't better. It was overcast and cloudy most days and the beach was very windy. But we had a brilliant time nonetheless and would recommend the hotel and resort.

WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A 2 WEEK...
9 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs C Crowley

WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A 2 WEEK HOLDIAY IN COSTA TEGUISE(2 adults, 2 kids 13 & 15) AND WE WERE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY HOW GOOD THE APARTMENTS AND COMPLEX WERE AFTER READING BAD REVIEWS ON HERE. WE BOOKED FOR A 1 BED APT. BUT GOT A 2 BED, AND YES IT COULD DO WITH A BIT OF UPGRADING BUT IT WAS WELL EQUIPPED, SPACIOUS AND CLEAN. THE MAIDS CAME IN EVERY DAY TO EMPTY BINS, CHANGE TOWELS, THE BEDS WERE CHANGED TWICE A WEEK. WE SAW NO ANTS AND ONLY 2 COCKROACHES (THEY GOT IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM AIR VENT BUT ONCE WE SPRAYED IT WE DID NOT GET ANY MORE SO I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU TAKE A COCKROACH SPRAY WITH YOU), THE COMPLEX WAS EXCELLENT, BIGGER THAN EXPECTED WITH TWO LOVELY VERY LARGE POOLS. WE FOUND THE FOOD TO BE EXPENSIVE IN THE CAFES AND RESTAURANTS MAINLY DUE TO THE HIGH PRICES OF DRINKS, BUT THERE WERE PLENTY OF SUPERMARKETS IF YOU WANT TO DO IT YOURSELF AND ALOT OF THEM LET YOU TAKE OUT WHICH CAN MAKE IT CHEAPER. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THE FUEL STOP BEACH CAFE NEAR THE MAIN BEACH, THEY SPECALISE IN KEBABS AND WRAP WHICH WERE THE BEST WE HAVE EVER TASTED, AND NOT BAD PRICES EITHER. THE REP WAS OK BUT THEN AGAIN WE DIDN'T NEED HER FOR ANYTHING, WE WOULD RECOMMEND GOING ON THE REPS CABARET NIGHT, A REALLY GOOD LAUGH WITH A MEAL INCLUDED. WE ALSO WENT ON THE SHORT ISLAND TOUR AROUND THE VOLCANOS AND A CAMEL RIDE TO BOOT. OVERALL WE HAD A LOVELY HOLIDAY AND WOULD DEFINATELY GO BACK.

The location and views from the...
1 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr S Duerden

The location and views from the apartment were excellent, close to two beaches and amenities. i thought it was to good to be true, we could have put up the the shabby, unclean apartment, but not the cockroachs. we had a problem on the first night, the place was infested with them, me and my fiancee found them crawling on us whilst we were sleeping, after that we both sleept with one eye open for the full two weeks.Being a self catering apartment you would have expected some sort of hygiene standards but not in these apartments, the cupbords and draws were the cutlery were kept were infested with roaches, even the toaster and the fridge was. complains made to reception were ignored, most of the time until the rep interviened. we were then given a can of bug spray as many other people were. This was meant to solve the problem. I later found out by the rep that the block we were staying in (block 4) was fumigated two weeks previous to our holiday. obviously cockroaches had been and maintained a problem a puerto tahiche apartments.
we decided from the start not to eat in our accomodation, we ate out every day. every meal we had out side was excellent, the best place we found was the splash bar on the sea front, it had a variety of meals. would definetly recommend. the island had many chinese resurants, we found jumbo, the best and the most value for money. There were many more, we found mac donalds in puerto del carma, close to costa tequise, the kids were well happy.
The isand was beautiful and the breezy weather was ideal for the children. The excursions were expensive, as everything else, but they were all good and well worth the experience. The volcano escape, was proberbly the best. A must see would be the rancho texas, all the animals including white tigers and aligators were awake and visable, unlike zoo in england. The island and the people were very welcoming. its just a shame the accomodation let the holiday down.

If you are looking for a cheap basic...

Aug 2008, Mrs H BURNESS

If you are looking for a cheap basic holiday then these apartments are fine. They are very dated and in desperate need on modernisation.
We were infested the first night with cockroches including my husband being woken with one on his face. Reception apologised and said they forgot to fumigate our room. We were given some spray which sorted the problem for the next 2wks.
Reception and cleaning staff were polite but did not understand much basic english.
One of us had to set our mobile alarm for 7am if we had any chance of getting a sunbed that day around either of the pools. Annoyingly alot of people put their towels out the night before or mega early then go out for the day so be prepared to see loads of sunbeds with towels on that are not used all day!
Went on the 'Wild, wild West night which was pricey but fab and would recommend we and our 7yrs olds loved it. Also recommend the Reps Caberet for a cheap entertaining night out, we went twice.
We went to Costa Tequise Aquapark which cost 77 euro for family of 4 but was excellent.
Kids club was OK but again had to queue early to get a space as only 16 spaces. Hotel entertainment was good fun with evening kids disco, bingo and shows.
This hotel is apparently closing in October for major refurb which is the only way we would revisit but probably won't as not enough in Lanzarote for us to come a 2nd time.
Overall cheap family holiday.

I was really worried because of the...

Jul 2008, Mrs G Philip

I was really worried because of the poor reviews but apart from a minor issue with the number of beds prepared, was very relieved when I arrived.
Location excellent - close to beach, shops & restaurants. Hotel okay - rooms shabby but clean. The cleaners worked really hard & did the best they could. We had 2 rooms, 1 with lovely sea view and 1 with great pool view.
We booked for 5 but the rooms were prepared for 4. I tried to get more bedlinen on arrival but could only get 1 extra sheet as they had run out so had to make do. Sheets weren't big enough for the double beds. They could only be tucked in at the top & bottom and overlap the sides of the bed. So every morning the sheets were in a heap & we ended up sleeping directly on the mattress. I gave up & slept on one of the single beds in the sitting area.

Pool bar good value & staff friendly. Would recommend the breakfast. We didn't use the other restaurant as we self catered.
The Hotetur rep, Karen, was really helpful and friendly as were all the other Hotetur staff. We didn't really need the TC rep as any questions we had, Karen was able to help us with. We also booked the trips with her as they were much less expensive.
Despite notices requesting that sunbeds weren't reserved, they were covered with towels early in the morning. My son saw a woman putting her towels out at 5.45am!!
That's ok if they were going to use the beds but every day the beds were 'nabbed' and then lots were left unused for several hours.
I really think that the hotel should enforce the no reservation policy to give everyone a chance.
We had no intention of joining the 'crack of dawn towel people' so we avoided the pool area in the morning & went to the beach which was lovely although very breezy. The sea was really warm and the waves were great. The beach was never overly crowded.
We then used the pool in the later afternoon when sunbeds were eventually vacated. The pool was lovely- very clean. The whole pool area was really good and well maintained.
We didn't use the entertainment but it looked good. Our boys are too old for the Children's club but from what we saw, the staff were brilliant and worked really hard. They were really good with the children and one girl in particular didn't seem to mind how many times she was thrown into the pool by the children and of course they loved it!!

The surrounding restaurants were good and the greeters and waiters very friendly.
Would definitely recommend 'Fuel Stop' which is right outside the hotel on the beach side. Richard is the greeter and he's really friendly. He's also a good source of useful information eg. location of cashpoints etc.
The Chinese restaurant was excellent as were all the Lani's restaurants.
Shopkeepers were really helpful and friendly but I would definitely avoid the souvenir shop owned by the Chinese people next to the Spar opposite the Lighthouse as they were dishonest and ripped off my son when something he bought fell apart within hours. He and his Dad took it back and they told him that they couldn't remember him buying it so therefore he hadn't paid for it. They expected him to pay for a replacement so he left without his money or goods. Unfortunately they don't issue receipts so he had no proof and they suddenly couldn't speak any English which made it all very difficult and a no win situation - (except for them). It's not fair to do that to anyone, let alone a child.
We were also told to avoid the electrical shops.
The Spar has most things and is very close. A previous review mentioned the fresh milk was off. We found that as well so used the long life which was fine.
The hotel is apparently closing at the end of the season for refurbishment and as the location is so brilliant we would definitely go back once it's completed.

Jul 2008, Miss C Perry

My boyfriend were both very impressed with the hotel and our room. It was all very clean and tidy. We stayed for 7 nights and our room was cleaned on all but one of the days. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, and they provided some very good entertainment during the day and then again during the evening.
We were both so impressed and enjoyed our holiday so much that we are trying to book another one at the same hotel for September this year.

Jul 2008, Mr A Smith

5 hour delay to lanzarote so it was dark on arrival. costa teguise is very windy but extremely hot. the hotel is clean it has 3 big pools (which are freezing) and 2 baby pools which are warmer. one thing is that the pools are very deep. the ocean water is very clean and very salty. everything in the resort is well over prised i would advise not to go the waterpark and the sunday market. i enjoyed my holiday i hope you do to.
