Cordial House Hotel

Cordial House in Istanbul is a good basic hostel. Although they promise free airport pickup, our flight was delayed and got in at 3 AM, so no one was there for us. However, they did reimburse us for taking a shuttlebus, even though the bus was expensive. The hostel is within walking distance of pretty much everything in the tourist district, and quiet. There isn't really any socializing in the common area, but if you need a basic place to stay, Cordial House is a good bet.

We spent 2 days in Cordial House and I would highly recommend ıt to any budget traveller. It's clean, comfortable wıth lots of facilitıes such as bar (very ımportant;), common room wıth tv, ınternet, pool, table tennıs and toılets. The breakfast was ıncluded in the bookıng as contınental but ıt was a good hearty Turkısh breakfast ınstead. The staff were very very helpful and frıendly. I stayed at the Cordial House for 5 nights and all in all it was an OK place to stay. pros: -reasonable -free shuttle service from airport if you spend 80 euros or more -big rooms, clean sheets, clean bathrooms -good, fresh breakfast -walking distance to Cemberlitas tram stop -great location, near many attractions in Sultanahmet cons: -the room I stayed in smelled of mold -carpet old and full of stains -had to ask to have the towels changed -wifi only in the lobby, not in the... more

I read a few bad reviews from this forum, so I was quite hesitant to book this hostel, but I had a great experience here. The room was large with a very clean bathroom. They cleaned our room everyday (which is rare at a hostel). The buffet breakfast was good, and there was free internet. The room was much better than other hostels I've stayed at in Turkey, with a comfortable double bed and even a TV. This place has seen its days.... looks like it used to be a hotel, though they call it Cordial House Hotel, it's more like a hostel (to me) than a hotel. No airconditioner (for summer) but heater was there for winter. Affordable rate, I booked this one at a hostel booking service online. I think some reviews here and in the Routard Guide Istanbul 2004 about this hotel are very misleading. My single room - with 2 single beds and 1 double bed in it - was smelly and the carpet stained and looked so dreadful I was afraid to accidentally step on it barefoot. Bed linen was clean, as was the bathroom -this one overall in very good condition -, but towels were never changed during my 7 nights stay. I stayed at the Cordıal House ın early August 2006. It was NOT aır condıtıoned nor was a fan supplıed for my room. Therefore, I had a very unpleasant sleep attrıbuted as well to people ın a nearby room talkıng loudly at 3 am. It was not worth the 254 US dollars that I paıd for the room. In November of 2005 three of us were traveling from We were stuck at the airport with a problem paying for our Visa's, all ATM's were down or not working. Cordial house was there to pick us up and helped us solve the problem. We are forever grateful for the help and consideration and great timing. The best place to stay for access to almost every site to see. Rooms were great for the tired travelers. Bathrooms were clean and in nice condition. The Cordial House is in an excellent location! I didn't know what to expect, but it was within walking distance to all of the great sights and especially the Grand Bazaar! The staff was more than helpful and they were very friendly. Not only did they recommend an excellent restaurant (just 2 doors down), they also gave me some good tips on the sights and shopping and even taught me to play backgammon in the common room. I went to Istanbul for a few days on my own on my way to a study abroad in Beirut. I got the distint impression that I was the only guest in this hotel. I was all alone in one of the female dorm rooms. The reception was staffed by a very cordial and talkative young man who did his best to make me feel at ease, but I must confess that being/feeling all alone here was a bit unnerving.
