Management response from Kitty de Graaf, Public Relations Manager 14 Jan 2012

Dear Madam/Sir, We regret that you did not like your stay in our hotel but are quite puzzled about the reason why. We offer a large variety of food at all meal times and temperature of the food is being checked on a very regular basis by our professional kitchen staff. The microwave service we render is merely so clients with baby's can warm a bottle if needed. The decoration of the standard rooms might not be to everyone’s liking but the rooms are kept in condition. Additionally to the standard rooms we have refurbished 150 rooms over the last year. These rooms come with a small supplement. The entertainment seating area, Bar Acuario, has been refurbished a few months ago and has got brand new furniture, we currently have a lot of repeater guests and they are delighted with the improvements made and the new decoration. We are happy you liked the Costa Adeje area and sincerely hope you might consider staying again in our resort in future holidays. Kind regards, The hotel management

Furniture might not be to the liking of everyone but are in perfect condition. Additional to that, we have refurbish 150 of our 437 rooms over the past few months. Regarding the presence of cockroaches, fortunately we do not encounter a lot but please realize that Tenerife is blessed with a subtropical climate, which is consequently an ideal climate for insects. The hotel has a contract with a professional fumigation company that deals with the insects. Presentation of the entertainment aims at the large variety of nationalities we have in the hotel, so several languages are spoken, also English. Food is being prepared by our professional kitchen staff according to strict H&S norms. Variety of the food is international. We can understand if you one only eats pizza and chips all day this might upset the stomach, we recommend that in future you also try some of our fresh fish, excellent vegetables dishes and crispy salads for a more balanced diet.

Just got back from an enjoyable week in the Isla Bonita hotel. It was an excellent holiday, the only thing was that the hotel needs a lick of paint and tiles missing replaced around the hotel, Had a refurbished room no complaints. Food was good with a lot of variety. Good value for money.

Not worthy of 4 Stars!
We have just returned from Christmas and New Year at this hotel. First impressions as you are dropped off looked promising however, it was chaos checking in! The hotel looks like a combination of a 1960's car park and a prison block and is in desparate need of a total refurb. The staff on reception are rude and obviously didnt want to be there. Room: Was clean but there was damp in the room so all your clothes smelt after one day of being hung up - not much storage space either. We were told the rooms were cleaned every day ours wasnt and when it was cleaned it wasnt cleaned properly. We didnt get any sun on our balcony as we faced the back of the hotel (room 429A) and you are woken every morning at about 2.40am as the bin men came to empty the skips. When the apartment above us flushed the toilet the noise came all the way down the pipes waking you up!Electrics -very dodgey I pulled the adapter plug out of the socket and the socket came with it the hotel did fix it PDQ but I didnt trust plugging anything into this socket again. Pool: Very cold as the sun didnt get on it until late afternoon block B's pool is better. I recommend walking about 10 mins to the Del Duque beach which is clean and the breakers in the afternoon are fantastic very safe for kids as well. Food: Very good selection, the queues for coffee in the morning however were awful and by the time you had queued for your food and got to the other end the food was cold. We sat one lunchtime and waited 45 minutes for the staff to replenish the food, as fast as they were putting it out it was gone. Its the old story with these hotels too many paying customers not enough staff to cope with it or tables and chairs for that matter. There was one night were a cockroache went for a walk across the dining room floor yuck! Bar & Entertainment: On Christmas Eve they shut the bar an hour early so the staff could go home to their families!!! And on New Years Eve the bar was supposed to stay open until 3am, however they decided come 1am you were going to pay for your drinks so everybody either went to bed or went out to a bar.The bar staff were overwelmed by the amount of people waiting for a drink at one stage there were 30 people queuing and one guy behind the bar, when you did get served the drinks were slammed on the bar. The staff were very rude and obviously didnt want to be there! Entertainment was chronic so we gave that a very wide berth. This hotel could be good as it is located near to the beach and the shopping plazas if they just spent a little money giving it an overhaul and employing staff who actually wanted to work in the service industry. We wont be going there again.
First time I've tried an All-Inclusive!
I've just read a number of reviews of this hotel and can hardly believe my eyes!! I'm certain that the reviewers are honest in their appraisal of their holiday but I'm beginning to think I stayed somewhere else!. True, having stayed at other 4 star hotels in the area, at best Isla Bonita is a good 3 star but this aside I cant agree with any of the negative opinions given by others. I found the service to be excellent, better in some cases than another 4 star nearby, the food, and I have to confess I'm a bit wary of foreign food but I found that the hotel gave a very good selection and variey and yes there are queues (small and move quickly) when you are waiting to be seated by the staff (usually at the evening meal). As for snacks between meals, the hotel provided a selection (all be it small) of cakes/desserts etc that children seemed to love. The rooms where very nice, separate double bedroom, kitchette, WC/bathroom, living area etc which were cleaned daily by polite and conscientous staff. I travelled on my own and found the hotel to be geared to families, I'm not complaining, I should have done my homework before I booked but for anyone considering going I would recommend it.
get what you pay for
Travelled with husband and 2 children. Previously visited this hotel 5 years ago. Felt the food had gone down hill, compared to other all inclusive i have stayed in. No snacks in between meals unless you call the pop corn on the bar snacks!! Seen alot better entertainment, although the entertainment team tried hard. My kids loved the entertainment as they could sit with there new friends at the front. I always make the most of any holiday and the kids love it. It was cheaper than other all inclusives, therefore u get what u pay for.
Group of 10 5 suffered possible food posioning
My family and I a group of 10 thought this hotel was great until one by one 5 of us fell ill. We all suffered gastro-enteritis, my mother suffered the worst she had to spend 2 days in hospital. I suspect food poisoning, we are awaiting confirmation. I have just read one review when another family stayed in this hotel back in March 05. Their son was confirmed to have food poisoining, which they believed was due to the incorrect handling of the ice-cream. They advised that they were going to write to the hotel to inform them of this. However, I can confirm that the way the ice-cream is served is still the same ! Needless to say we will not be returning to this hotel !
should not be an all inclusive
All inclusive Hotel rated as 4* very questionable. The Hotel itself was very clean but there was the odd cockroach around. We see them almost every part of hotel but only the odd one or two. The rooms themselves were a fair size and if you were allocated one that didn't have the balcony overlooking the main road were great. unfortunatly ours was overlooking the road. The noise was so bad you couldn't hear yourselves talking on the balcony and even inside with doors closed was still very noisey. The food that was there was ok in that it was cooked, but the choice was very limited. If you liked chips with everything you were ok!! This wasn't our 1st all inclusive holiday and to measure this against the others we have had this is the worst. The drinks menu was very limited to. We didn't expect to much and were very dissapointed. Just one example....if you wanted a bailey's you would at least expect them to have the spannish equavalent of the drink as they do in other resorts. Entertainment. not much to be said on this either. kids entertainment consisted of a 20 minute mini disco consisting of the same 5 songs each evening from 9pm till 9.20pm Then there was a lapse till 950pm when the staff dished out diplomas for ten mins. This was followed at 10pm by an hour (if you were lucky) of caberet. Overall we would not book the isla bonita again simply because it doesn't live up to all inclusive expectations and certainly not 4* expectations!!
Good holiday
Just come back from my holiday on tuesday and I must say me and my wife had a good time with no problems. The service was good and all the staff were pleasent and helpful. The food was good with a good choice for every meal. The hotel was spotless and the only thing that I would say let the hotel down was the entertainment as theres only so many times you can sit through the mini disco routine. My wife celebrated her birthday while on holiday and without being informed the hotel suprised us with a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne. Which was a lovely touch.
Poor service from staff
Spent seven days at the Bonita between Oct 14th -21st 2005 This holiday was booked in good faith as a four star but the Bonita should be decribed as only a reasonable three Rooms are large and clean /cleaners do an excellent job Rooms are cleaned everyday to a good standard and towels changed There is the main bedroom with a seperate living room with a bed settee perfect for a bit of privicy from the kids There is also a small kitchinette with sink and fridge ,although no untensills or kettle are provided ,Take your own if you want a cuppa late or before breakfast We had a pool veiw with a good balcony ,i would suggest this was probably the best veiw as the front of the hotel faces a busy rd The hotel also provides towels for the pool which you can collect at 9.00 am ,the pool should not open untill 9.00 but if you leave it till then you wont get a bed ,All nationalities join the early morning towel run to get a good bed The food provided at Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner was very good with plenty of choice for both adults and the kids ,The problem is actually getting a table as the que for Dinner at night was sometimes verging on the ridicuolas I did get the feeling of because the whole of hotel is all inclusive and no one is liklely to spend any money there that good service and politness was not at the top of the hotels agenda indeed i have to say that the Bar/waiting staff were the rudest i have ever had the misfortune to encounter whilst on holiday ,I once informed the barman that he had made a mistake in my drinks order to have the remainder of my order slammed down on the bar without comment i also asked if i could leave my hired motorbike on the hotel car park overnight to be told simply "no" with no explanation The worst part for me has to be finding cockroaches in our room (this was not only our room but also my sister inlaws room next door and the room below us So in a nutshell if they were to either get rid of the ignorant staff train them in customer service and rid the hotel of its cockroaches it would be a good three star still not a four
Great Time Had by All
We came back from a 10-night stay at Hotel Isla Bonita early this morning. We being, me, my husband and our two children (aged 11 and 3). First impressions were very promising, the hotel looks great from the front, although the reception is a bit tricky to find as you have to walk through the Bar Plaza to get to it. Kids loved the ID card All Inc passes, and on many occasions you didnt have to show these anyway - never in the dining room. The room was very good, very spacious bedroom. Not a great deal of storage for four people, but enough. Maid service every day who were very good, made the beds, tidied up and clean towels in the bathroom daily. The hotel also provides courtesy pool towels for all guests which can be changed every day - very useful. All areas of the hotel are very clean, never any litter and floors always clean. Staff polite and helpful. Food is plentiful but after ten nights was starting to become a little monotonous. We ate out at a Chinese on our last night. Picnic boxes are great, plenty in them and a good idea to take if you are going for a day to the water park (for which there is a free bus which picks up and drops off right outside the hotel). Entertainment is pretty poor, well very poor actually, but the environment is pleasant and as our little one fell asleep on our knee at about 10.30 every night, it didnt really bother us anyway!! Our 11 year old had a wonderful time - lots of other kids there who all got on well together and the arcade at the rear of the hotel was a great hang out for them, so you didnt have to worry about them being tempted to leave the hotel. No problems with drinks, ask for a glass of wine at dinner and you get a bottle!!! You can take this back to your room too. Snacks available throughout the day - cakes, biscuits, etc - nothing very exciting, but the dining room is open 7.30 - 10.00 for breakfast, 12.00 - 3.30 for lunch and 6.00 - 9.30 for dinner - that's enough food for anybody. Was never hungry. Ice cream available all day too. Queue at Bar Plaza sometimes lengthy at night, but only 5 minute wait. Good clean pool areas, always plenty of beds. Didnt check out the nudist area (honest!!!) so cant comment on that. Weather was great, couple of cloudy days, but still very warm. Overall, we had a wonderful holiday. The resort is great for families, but not suitable for a clubbing holiday, you need to stay more centrally in Las Americas if thats's what you are after.
Good Holiday Overall - NB You only get what you pay for!
My Mum and I stayed at Isla Bonita for a cheap break in the sun for a week from 16th Sept. Most of the reviews you have read are true. The location is superb. We had stayed near this area two years ago so I quickly found my feet. There is a new shopping complex a few minutes walk away. The restaurants and bars in this area are all good, not tacky. The beach is a 10 min walk. You can order a picnic box the night before from Reception. (Didn't have one ourselves, so can't comment.) If it's discos you need I suggest jumping into a taxi to Americas area. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The colour of the concrete and the structure of the building does make it look a bit like a multi storey car park! However, the layout is generally quite good. The main restaurant and another indoor lounge bar meet in the centre of the two hotels on a lower level. The main Plaza Bar is central to the outside. The entrance to the hotel is quite attractive - so no shocks when you pull up in the Taxi! The food is a good standard with plenty of variety. Not too much queuing going on and definitely only for a minute or so. Having stayed in 4/5* Hotels in the Caribbean. It's true, you only get what you pay for and there is a vast difference in price! That said, we decided if the food wasn't very good, we could afford to go out and eat but it just wasn't necessary. However, we did treat ourselves to a very nice restaurant on the last night and had the most amazing fillet rossini! You don't have to wear a wrist band, you have your photo taken on arrival for an id card which is a bit more sophisticated. Yes, the entertainment was rubbish but after a late dinner, we sat in the quiet lounge downstairs and chatted so it didn't bother us. Later in the holiday we met some friends from Kent who provided far better entertainment anyway! *(Hi to Hayley and Sarah)* You can also book once each for the Italian and BBQ restaurants. Breakfast involved a lot of queuing for hot drinks. I think this is an area they need to invest some thought on. Perhaps put a hot water urn or another coffee machine over by the microwave? I hope this review helps. We booked the hotel through Go2spain for £174 each! Our flights were First Choice but booked through Flydeals and they worked out at £194 each. They were really good flight times too. (Watch out for excess baggage charges on the return journey!) So, all in all, for a total of £368 each we thought it was good value for money to chill out in the sun, sip cocktails and read our books! (Whilst my husband was playing golf in freezing Devon). (Scrivens, Tamworth, Staffs. Ages 40 and 63)
Excellent - Highly recommended!
We have just returned for a week's holiday at the Hotel Isla Bonita and had an excellent time. The hotel itself isnt exactly easy on the eye, and as someone mentioned does look like a multi storey car park from the outside. However inside the rooms are very clean and spacious. There is a seperate 'living' area, bedroom and bathroom. There are patio doors in the living area and in the bedroom both leading to the same balcony. there is a little kitchentte which contains an oven and fridge. We were in block B. The only thing I would say was annoying was that our balcony looked out to the side of the hotel and at about 4am every morning a lorry would come to empty the bins and it was VERY loud! it lasted about 15 minutes but enough to wake me up. TV in your room. Only english channels were CNN and Sky News but you dont really come on hols to watch TV. Maids very good - everything always kept very tidy. The meals I have to say I was very impressed with. Breakfast there is everything you could imagine, cereals, toast, bread, jams, honey, cheese, meat, yoghurts, pastries, full english brekkie, fruit juice - also bucks fizz! Lunch time and evening meals there was a wide variety of food. you could have a bottle of red white or rose wine with your meal which was included in the all inclusive package - im quite fussy about wine but have to say it wasnt bad! The staff were very pleasant (bar staff and waiters), we had no problems with queing for a seat - longest wait maybe a coupleof minutes and the waiter took you to a table. We took out a picnic one day as well which the hotel provides. Contained, bread, cheese, ham, jam, tomatoes, butter, pate, fruit, fruit juice, water. The drinks were very good as well during the day - plenty to chose from. Ice cream available throughout the day. Cant really give any review on the entertainment- not really my sort of thing - but it looked ok! Same for the pool area i never spent any time there but it looked very clean and there always seemed to be sunbeds available. There was also a games hut at the back of the hotel (pool, air hockey which was very old and didnt work too well), pinball machine etc etc and table tennis. As for the resort, it was v good. plenty of different tourist shops, bars and cafes. Beware of the 'timeshare' people. I met an old couple who had been ripped off, been told to come to a bar to collect a bottle of whiskey and the owner knew nothing about it!! If you say no thanks most of them leave it, however we did come across a couple of obnoxious ones! the hotel is about a 5 min walk from the beach front. however it is on a slight incline so maybe not suitable for people with walking difficulties. We ate out one evening for our anniversary and would recommed the restaurant very highly, couer de filet - you will find it in the playe de fanabe shopping centre. the food was very very good! a little on the expensive side but well worth it! We also hired a car through Orcar, they are v cheap and the car was good. went to Mt Teide and also Loa Gigantes in a day - worked out cheaper than organised excursions. All in all - i would highly recommend the hotel and resort, was slightly worried about the hotel by reading some of the reviews but have to say it was very very good. There were a couple of hotels in the resort that looked fantastic from the outside and on returning home i have read the reviews and am so glad i didnt go - looks can be very decpeptive!! Got a very good deal as well we only paid £780 for both of us for a week all inclusive!!
