Albatros Hotel Reviews

This hotel should be avoided at all costs. It is completely dilapidated and in need of repair. The owners seem to be milking it and refusing to repair anything in the hotel. I was forced to spend one night in a room on the fourth floor and the railing on the balcony would... more

Excellent choice
Our first trip to Istanbul and we stayed at Albatross, centrally located in the old city close to all the historical places. We were accomodated in a suite since the superior room was not available. Later we were moved to our requested room, very clean and cosy. Hospitality was 10 out of 10 the staff was cordial and comforting, not to forget Meltem Bozkurt - The lady on the front desk, who made our stay even more comfortable by extending help with tour bookings and making one of the Istanbul Forum shops deliver a pair of Glasses that they forgot to keep in the bag, which would have been inconvenient for us to go and pick our selves. We would recomend Albatross to anyone visiting Istanbul. Thanks Meltem for making our stay great. Hania and Fawad Faruqi 22 may - 29 may 2010
a quit and lovely place in the old city of Istanbul
This is a very nice and quit hotel in the middle of Sultanahmed. The rooms are furnished in Turkish style; some of the rooms have a small balcony. The staff is very friendly and provide excellent service.
Great Location, Helpful Staff, Clean and Newly Renovated
I enjoyed my stay at Albatros Premier Hotel very much. The staff, especially at the front desk, were very helpful and mapped all the historical and hot spots i should visit during my stay since i was not that familiar with istanbul. I came to them with million questions which they were able to answer. They bought adapters for my laptop and phone, and complementary wireless was very fast. The Hotel is steps away from all the historical attractions and public transportation and is right by a safe taxi stand which is very useful in istanbul. This hotel is NOT smoke free which bothered me very much since i couldn't sleep at nights from the awful smell of cigarets. They claim smoking is not allowed, but they don't take any precautions to prevent people from smoking indoors, even the staff smoke in their offices, i guess it's just their culture. Overall, i would recommend this hotel and wouldn't mind staying here in the future.
Pleasant staff but mediocre accommodations
We stayed at this hotel after a reservation at another hotel was not honored due to overbooking. When we arrived, we were initially shown to a room that was badly in need of renovation. In addition, the front door did not latch shut. We, therefore, asked for a different room, and were shown to a nicer room, which was on the ground floor without a real window, so it was pretty stuffy and claustrophobic. The next day we were moved to a similar room on a higher floor, and the remainder of our stay there was more tolerable and comfortable. There was supposedly wifi, but despite numerous attempts, I was unable to access it. The breakfast buffet was definitely a highlight, and the location was nice. Close to Sultanahmet's attractions but far enough away that it wasn't in the heart of the touristy area.
Quite an enjoyable stay
Had a enjoyable stay here at Albatros Premier hotel. My friend help booked this room for us Pros: 1.Rooms are rather new, though fairly small. Furniture is either rather well-maintained or quite new. It's very pleasantly decorated. 2. Price seems fairly reasonable for the location. Quite a no. of nice shops are within walking distance. All the fav Istanbul attractions are really within walking distance (tho' up a slope). 3.high-speed WIFI throughout the hotel (except the Terrace where breakfast is served) 4. good spread for breakfast at the Terrace (roof-top dining) Great view too. Cons: 1. Service at reception was so-so. They didn't seem happy with their jobs, and couldn't offer a smile or greeting to guests. This is too bad, as it affects the tone/warmth of this place. 2. hotel couldn't offer me an extra pillow, the guy claimed that they are all fully booked. But they did deliver a blanket I requested rather promptly.
Hit or miss
You'll either get incredibly lucky, or very unlucky with this hotel. Some of the rooms here are absolutely gorgeous- newly painted, luxuriously finished, spacious, bright and airy- where as some look like the could have been straight fom Rising Damp- literally, damp, dark, smelly, old appliances, bad wiring and with broken showers (they tried to put me in the latter until I complained...and complained...and complained). The manager here is an absolute angel, but be waned that the majority of the reception and portering staff are quite unhelpful and often reluctant to extend to you the beautiful Turkish hospitality which so many other hotels in the area pride themselves on. I was a lone female on this trip and found that the younger male staff members could also be a little forward as well- so be warned and be prepared to be firm!!
Didn't disappoint
This was my girlfriend and my "splash out" hotel - every trip we save some cash for something a bit special at the end of the trip. This place didn't disappoint. The rooms were really nice and had been recently refurbished, although the style might be a bit glitzy for some (lots of gold). Breakfast was a highlight - the buffet included juice which is rare. But best of all was the view from the terrace - outstanding, and the terrace had recently been refurbished. Staff were helpful. Location was good - in a quieter part of Sultanahmet, but close enough to be able to walk to all of the major attractions. Only issue was that the wireless internet access seemed a bit unreliable, and there were no remote controls in our room when we got there. Highly recommended.
Great Hotel, Great Location
I recently stayed at the Albatros Hotel in Istanbul for 3 nights. The hotel is in a great location and is an easy walk to the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. There are also many reastaurants within a short walk from the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with nice bathrooms. There is a refrigerator in the room as well as a tea kettle. The staff is very helpful and helped us arrange a trip to a Turkish Bath. A buffet breakfast is served on the terrace and you can choose to eat inside or outside. There is a large selection of rolls, pastries, cheeses, meats and cereals. I wouldn't hestiate to stay at this hotel again.
Horrible place never again
dark, smelly room facing heap of ribish occupied by family of noisy ferral cats. Bathroom could easily be featured in 'Razing Damp' mouldy bath ,cracked sink. I tripped over loose tiles in bathroom cut my hand, reported to receptionist who completely ignored me.there was no light in a corridor, again nothing was done about it during my entire stay 4 days.Avoid it at all cost!!!
Absolutely Charming!
This is a very good boutique-style hotel! The location is great,in the historical-traditional area of Sultanahmet, where many of the greatest sights are(you can walk to Hagia Sophia and the blue mosque,it's really close). The hotel has been renovated and has changed management just a little time ago,4-5 months, the lobby is very nice with a touch of ottoman luxury, the reception staff is really friendly and warming, they can give you directions, recommend great places to go,talk to you about turkish culture and life etc.The hotel is alspo extra clean, there is not even a quantum of dust around, and the first thing you notice when you walk in is a smell and feeling of freshness,as the furniture is brand new and very stylish, you get the feeling that no one else has stayed in there before you.Same for the not very spacious but modern bathroom(We stayed in superior double rooms though). There is also a lovely little garden bar,and a very nice restaurant in the terrace, where you also enjoy a delicious and with variety, breakfast. The only thing that we didn't like was tthat one of the rooms(which have little balconies)was smaller than the other, and so was its bathroom, but it is so charming that you forget about it.Y
