best choice!
I have read the reviews first so I asked NOT to be booked at any Sister-Hotel and that I wanted a room facing the street (more quiet). they followed my request without problems. I didn't like the noisy english people there who didn't have the idea that others like to sleep early... but the earplugs helped :) i love the place because its very ORIENTAL, central, very quiet and also affordable (EUR 50/single/no view) - in my opinion the best choice! (i've crossed many other hotels on noisy roads or with many bars) of course the terrasse is wonderful, but at the end of october it was too cool to eat outside. but the breakfast room below is a nice alternative. the buffet is great and the people helpful (they filled up my drinking water bottle and I gave them enough tip). the shower water was only luke warm in the evenings, so I preferred to go to the cemberlitas hamam instead of showering :) just around the corner there is a taxi station.
nightmare
Where do I start. Well for a start I didn't actually get to stay at Sultans Inn even though myself and my boyfriend had booked three nights there. Turned up at 10pm on a saturday night to be told that even though we had a booking confirmation and that they had us on the system there were no rooms at the Inn! Not that they actually told us this straight up - no - we were shipped around to two other 'sister' hotels where they thought they 'might' have a room only to be told after an hour and a half that they didn't. Not only did we have to then find our own accomodation for our time in Istanbul but we were also told that we might not be able to get our money back from them. Very poor service, at times becoming rude, not one apology and all in all I would recommend that noone books to stay with them. Unless of course you like the first 2 days of your 3 day break to be completely ruined.
be warned
we have just returned from a trip to Istanbul. Please note that if you book a room in Sultan's Inn hotel you may be moved to their sister hotel Deniz Konak. See separate review for this hotel
top spot
Really loved this small hotel after we got our room changed the next day ,to one slightly bigger with out verandah, and got the remote control for the airconditioner and a top sheet on the bed (it was hot). We wouldnt have stayed if we hadn't been able to change. So its all about the room. As mentioned in other postings the roof top terrace is beautiful and you can go up all hours of theday and night. Dawn was especially wondrous.Would return there when next in Istanbul. Pick up service from airport was excellent andseemed to be good value for a family of 4 (with lots of bags) arriving late at night on a Saturday.
Dishonest staff
The hotel itself was fine and in a great location. It was clean, albeit very small and where our room was it was very loud. We only stayed one night and had to rush early the next morning to catch a flight- I managed to leave some clothes in the bathroom and so the following morning I rang the hotel to inquire about how to have them returned. They denied knowing about the clothes and so did their housekeeping. This left me feeling very disappointed with the hotel. So my advice is, the hotel is fine, just don't leave anything behind because you won't get it back.
Management response from emperor1453 25 Jul 2007

Dear Anna Helm, I hope you are fine. You might remember that you had forgotten some clothing during your stay on 07.05.2007 in Room#30. When you called us, we said that they are not found yet as they were not found at that time. Yet, after a few days from the conversation we had on the phone, we found the clothings you had forgotten in the room, but as we had no e-mail address or phone number of yours, we couldn't reach you to inform that we found them. A few days ago, we came across to a review you wrote on www.tripadvisor.com about our hotel. We would like to have your address to send these clothings back to you. not so great
We stayed at thıs hotel for two nıghts ın Aprıl 07. The shower leaked and we had to use as a hand shower as ıt wouldnt stay up. I dıdnt bother speakıng to them about ıt though. the bathroom was really not great. room small but faır *- ıt was clean. the bed was hard but ok. breakfast was standard turkısh and good. the staff were not all that helpful - they hardly spoke englısh. theır aırport transfer ıs also about 4 x expensıve as avaılable from other outlets nearby.
Warm and welcoming
My wife and I stayed here for a week in July 2006. The service was good and the rooms although a tad small were more than adequate. Our room was well furnished with traditional fabric etc. The views from the terrace where breakfast was eaten were pretty spectacular with views of the sea and the Blue Mosque. Its on a quiet street and only five minutes stroll from the the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya. Overall an excellent choice if on a limited budget
At home in Istanbul
We stayed at Sultan Inn for a week inlcuding the three day national holiday for Eid when the city was innundated with visitors. The hotel is on a quite street in the hear of the must see sights and is excellent value for money. They offered a pick up service from the the airport ( 20 euro) and were helpful in every way, although once the information about which sights may be open was incorrect. Nearly all the staff speak english and the ladies who do the fantastic breakfast spread ( lots of pastries, fruits, cereal, breads, eggs, cold cuts , yogurts, olives and cheeses) communicate by smiling a lot - if you have kids they are garunteed to be handed a chocolate for being kids! The terrace is spectacular but we couldn't use it as flowering plants brought all the bees around and our 8 year old was a bit too jumpy around them to be comfortable. The rooms are small, but clean and well maintained outtfitted in simple wooden furniture and colourful fabric. We had a three bed room, one double four poster bed and a single bed. First floor rooms have the disadvantage of being too close to reception, you can hear an animated conversation in the late hours of the night. The bathrooms are clean and do the job. You will need to ring soap, we didnt have any but were given shampoos etc.. The streets around the hotel are well stocked with restaurants and eateries and a cafe about 5 mins walk away, below the blue mosque offers light meals, water pipes, live music and swirling dervishes and lots of atmosphere..the place was buzzing every night we droppped by. The biggest bonus with sultan inn is its proximity to the the sights and its homely feel. If you are looking for a comfortable stay on a budget this is ideal.
Great location, staff and breakfast
Firstly, this hotel is not remote at all! It is a 5 minute walk to the major sights of Istanbul - the Blue Mosque and Ayia Sofia and the Sultanahmet tram stop. Small rooms but equipped with everything you need - even a first aid kit and slippers! Fab breakfast on the roof terrace with amazing views of the old city and the Bosphorous, and you can get breakfast until 10.30am so no early wake-ups required! Would heartily recommend to anyone visiting Istanbul. Website at [-]
Very authentic
Located in a remote part of Sultanahmet, the old city, this pensyon has very reasonable prices and a feeling of authenticity you would lose in a modern hotel. The building is a converted townhouse and the rear rooms and roof-garden overlook the roof of the Blue Mosque. The rooms are very basic with tiny bathrooms and no closets - only shelves. Management is friendly but a bit disorganized. Don't rely on getting any food outside of posted mealtimes. Make sure you write down the address if you have to give or ask for directions back to this place - it is not very well known locally and has a similar name to the local YMCA. (Trust me, I speak from experience.)
