Wonderful hotel!
We stayed at Sur hotel last time in february for six nights. The location is amazing, set between the Marmara Sea and Old City. Marmara Sea visible from the top-floor breakfast room/ terrace. From the hotel it is a short walk not only to the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia but also the Topkapı Palace. We visited with my family. We booked a family room, which is on the first floor, with a view of Marmara Sea. The room was pleasantly decorated, well equipped and clean. Adequate Budget Hotel
An adequate budget hotel. Rooms clean and tidy. A great location for all the main attractions. Only a ten min. walk to the Blue Mosque etc. But beware ! `sea view` rooms are big and have a good view of the Marmaras but also overlook the railway track. The noise of passing trains is very intrusive. Also be aware that they impose a 18% surcharge for payment by credit card, so be prepared to pay in cash (YTL or Euros). Overall not too bad - 6/10.
Nice if you like condoms left in your toilet and no hot water etc
Well, after having travelled for a few months now, this hotel made it quite easıly to the bottom of the list. It was off to a bad start but this is pretty low - a condom (and other flotsom and jetsom) left to greet us in the toilet when we arrived (small toilet too - one of those where it was right by the shower and the door - but in this case you needed to pretty much sit on the toilet to shower - might explain why the bathroom door was rotten). After a few goes we managed to get rid of the filthy sight with the use of the toilet... more

Our customer who complained in the disscussed complaint, Mrs. Kj G… declared his opinions firstly in 06.09.2006 to us about our hotel services via …………. travel agency. And we replied this complaint in 10.09.2006 again via …….…... agency. Since our costumer declared her ideas and complaints again by tripadvisor we feel responsible to share our ideas with you. These critics were sent by Mrs. Kj G… on September 6, 2006 to …………. is: " Sadly Sur Hotel did not recognise this change and I was forced to pay for three nights not just the one we stayed. I am really not happy about this as you can imagine but the lady at the desk was very threatening and we had a plane to catch so we paid. You may wish to think about removing Sur Hotel Istanbul from your website as they are misleading guests in a number of ways (the rooms are tiny and dirty, condoms left in the toilet when we arrived, someone else's dirty towels left in the bathroom, few of the facilities listed on the site exsist,conference rooms make it sound like a big hotel but it is tiny, the internet is the front desks computer so not available, there is no hot water, etc) - as may be evident from the feedback. This may put off users from using your site again. I am sure you wish to have only quality hotels on your site. Regards. Mrs. Kj G… " Our explanation about our guest complaint is: Mrs. Kj. G… had made double room reservation from 31.08.2006 to 05.09.2006 for five days. The first day at the hotel, she stayed approximetly 1 hour then went out. When she came back she informed us that she had to go back to her country so she had to leave the hotel tomorrow morning because of an urgent situation. As you know, reservation cancellation depends on some conditions as it is implied in every hotel in the world and our hotel. The customers have to inform us 48 hours before he leaves the hotel otherwise, she has to pay for one night that she doesn’t stay. For some hotels this policy is 3 days before customers leave but in our hotel it is 48 hours. The reason for this is to reserve the room for the guest and decline the offers after it is confirmed. We need to know 48 hours before our customer leaves the hotel to prevent our loss and re-rent our room. As we informed before, it is not the policy that we apply, it is applied in everywhere on the world. Except this, there is a difference between these two complaints. In the complaint of our customer made by ……….. agency, she emphasized she stayed just one night but the fee is taken from her for three nights by force and the bathroom was cleaned after a few days later and she disappointed when she saw our hotel because she thought it was a big hotel. However, in the complaint by tripadvisor agency, she doesn’t states that complaint. Our decision about our customer`s complaint is she thinks that the hotel took more and unfair money which was taken according to the cancellation policy. Moreover, our customer who stayed one night can’t clean the toilet after few days. Additionally, can you imagine a big hotel which has got ten rooms? We don’t want to give an explanation about our guest imagination. We want you think about the two different complaints made by some customer, if they are made by animus or not. Additionally, our customer didn’t complain about the toilet or the room being small. Therefore, we are sorry and confused about these complaints. A little note to complain: Our hotel is a special class, boutique hotel in Sultanahmet (Old city ). We accept that our hotel is not as comfortable as 5 star hotel but we try our best to make our customers feel at home. Additionally, cleaning, breakfast and customer gladness are our prior aim. Good Choose
This is the second time we have stayed at the Sur and it has been amazing both times. The location was SUPURB and the rooms were attractive, clean and comfortable. Free internet access in the lobby. Breakfast is served on the top floor (buffet style, great food) and has spectacular views out over the Marmara Sea. The Barbeque at teras was lovely. It is really close to all of the main attractions about a 5 min walk. I really enjoyed staying at Sur Hotel. We just wanted to stay for 3 nights but at the end we stayed for 7 nights because we feeI home here. I've not forgotten the view at the room. The beautiful scenery makes me relax. Night time we eat very good Turkish kebap and fish with Turkish music to teras restaurants in Sur Hotel. And its price very goood. We Advice because we will come back.
Avoid this hotel at all costs
Let me briefly review my experience: - The main rail lines run right outside the back windows to the hotel. These are BIG, LOUD, trains. You could get better sleep in a hostel sharing a room with 8 people. Thin walls don't help the situation. - 2 days later (now) I still have bite marks on my back from something (spider? bed bugs?) that woke me up several times in the middle of the night while feasting on my skin. - The hotel staff was just plain old not helpful. Very unlike everything else in Istanbul, this place was BAD.... more
bad hotel
We booked this hotel over the internet. The pickup at the airport was ok, but the bathroom was moldy and unable to accommodate the three of us (me, wife and child). When they couldn't find a room for our stay that could accommodate us with any of the facilities we were promised (view etc.), they became very hostile and a dispute ensued and we ended up throwing down the payment for our room and running. As our response, we would like to inform you that, like saying in our guest complaint this reviewer has booked through our internet page. In our website, all the information are correct and clear. There is no exaggerated facility or overdone info posted. So, almost all our guests who have booked through our webpage shouldn’t aware of the levels services. Contrary to our guest complaint about our hotel breakfast, cleaning and customer satisfaction are very important point for us which we are careful about that and our guests admire us in that subjects. In our breakfast we serve up more than 15 kinds of food for breakfast which it have included turkish taste. And we prepare all of them in the morning. In our breakfast we serve white cheese, old cheese, cake, egg or menemen (turkish taste which is made with tomato, green pepper, onion, spices and eggs), tomato, cucumber, variety of jams (rose jam, cherry jam and apricot jam), sausage, patatos salad, black and green olive, butter, honey, cigarette patty, fruits, tea, coffea and orange juice. One little note to complete. Our Hotel isn’t as good as like Hotel Dersaadet we can accept this. But if you compare two hotel you can see the prices differences. Generally Dersaadet Hotel price twice times highly to our Hotel.. Also we have never positioned ourselves as a five star one. But we are a special class hotel aiming to offer 5 star quality in a boutique hotel. But our guest should’nt forget that the facilities of the hotels are change in comparison with the price. İts small and pretty hotel with clean and nice rooms.
This was my third time being in Istanbul. İn this time I stayed in Hotel Sur wich placed in the center of Old City - Sultanahmet. I really enjoyed the hotel and Istanbul. The breakfast was wonderful with the sea view that I can not forget forever. The stuff was so kind. İts small and pretty hotel with clean and nice rooms. İf one day I decide to visit Istanbul again, I would like to stay in Hotel Sur one more time.
Hotel Sur website is misleading!
Our problems started when no-one picked us up from the airport after having organised it via e-mail before our departure. The hotel is alot older and run- down than the photos provided. I'd say the photos are at least 10 years old. The male staff members were friendly enough but the female worker (who we think is the owner) was simply rude. She wouldn't even acknowledge us when we greeted her in turkish. There is a traditional turkish buffet and you can each as much as you like. Breakfast can be eaten on the terrace which is enjoyable enough... more
Not attractive, even for this money
The hotel is situated very close to the historical district,just 10 minutes of walk away from ST. Sophia & Blue Mosque, but unfortunatelly it seems to be it's only merit. The worst thing is that there is the railway just under the hotel's windows, so every 20 minutes since 6a.m. & till midnight you will feel as if the rain crosses your bed. It is really terrible!
