Olissippo Castelo Hotel

Would concur with previous reviews of this hotel which I found very helpful. Great location, rooms and breakfast. Would add that the hotel reception recommended and booked for us dinner at the Casa de Linhares not far away in Alfama (5 min taxi ride). The food was excellent and the fado singers superb!! Well worth a visit to experience this very Portugese entertainment - and it was not at all depressing!! If you have time, both Sintra and Evora are definately worth visiting too although we found there was more than enough to see & do... more

This small hotel sits high atop the Alfama District in Lisbon. It is a delightful refuge after exploring the beautiful city of Lisbon. The rooms are lovely, and all seem to have decks. The breakfast in the lobby is fantastic, and you also get to meet your other travelers. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. They assisted us with booking a car upon our departure. You can easily walk to the restaurants in the lower Alfama at night and back again without worry. There is a trolley down the street... more

What a great hotel in a nice location. We enjoyed the balconies tha over looked the city. The staff was great, breakfast was great. Any one staying in Lisboa should stay here. Check out Cafe Alacantra, great place to eat.

The Olissippo is a truly charming hotel with very pleasant and helpful staff. We enjoyed the hotel's quietness and elegance, and its location in the old town just below the San Jorge castle is very good. Our room was excellent and the complimentary port was a very welcome touch. We loved the Olissipo, from the moment we arrived. Our taxi pulled up in front, and on one side, there was the hotel, and on the other side, there was all of Lisbon laid out in front of you. Fantastic views, right out the front door! The views were even better from our room om the 2nd floor. We had a great terrace with two chairs and an umbrella, although it was a bit windy while we were there, and the umbrella spent more time on the ground that up shading us from the sun. What a gem! This hotel has an excellent location and friendly staff, but the best thing about it are the rooms - spacious, clean and quite luxurious, but the real treat are the terraces; every room has a roof terrace with deck chairs which provide a stunning view. One other thing which might come in usefull is tha fact that the hotel has its own parking - you can use it to drop off your rental car or get it delivered there if you plan to explore more of Portugal. We stayed at the Hotel Olissipo Castelo for three nights beginning June 7, 2006. We were given a room on the third floor – a no smoking floor – that was very large, with a very modern and large bathroom. But, the best part was the fantastic 12’ x 15’ terrace that overlooked Lisbon to the North. The Hotel is about a 100 yard walk from a Tram 15/28 stop so it is really convenient to both the Baixa, Bario Alto, Rossio and Alfama districts. After a business stay at the Corinthia Alfa Hotel in Lisbon (just another nothing-wrong-with business hotel in the financial district outside the center of Lisbon), we stayed three nights at the Hotel Olissipo Castelo, just at the border of the Alfama district, under the Castello. And what a wonderful experience this was. It was a beautiful hotel with stunning views of Lisbon. We were upgraded to a deluxe room (presumably because we were there in March, in the off-season). From there it was a very short walk to the Castelo Sao Jorge, to the Cathedral, and one simply had to roll down the hill to get to the center of town. I have to disagree with the last reviewer that said that it was inconvenient. My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Olissipo for 5 days this december. The room was great, all the comfort we needed... The best thing about this hotel is that it is only a ten minute walk to the center of the city and about 5 minutes away from tram #28, (which takes you to most places you would want to see when in Lisbon). What suprised us most was how quiet it was. When you have the door to the terras closed you hear nothing from outside. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Lisbon I advise this.
