Solplay Aparthotel

I had a business trip in September-October 2007 and also January-March 2008 and I stayed at Solplay. The hotel is great and it offers all you’ll need. The breakfast is various and it contains a lot of quality food. The pool is lovely, very luxurious. The hotel has 2 pools – one inside-pool and one outside-pool. This hotel is neither in Lisbon as such, nor by the beach. If you arrive by plane to Lisbon International Airport, book your taxi at the taxi/tourist counter within the arrivals hall (after passport/customs control) – they speak English, charge a fixed fare and provide you with a voucher. This means that even if a taxi-driver, who most likely would not speak English or would not know where the hotel is, would not over-charge you. Excellent hotel, staff very helpful. Two bedroom apartment quite massive. Outdoor pool out of action unfortunately which we didn't find out until checking in but only staying for 3 days so not so important. The hotel seems to be used as a base for football teams when playing locally. Short taxi ride and you can get the train into Lisbon or all along the coast the other way to Cascais. Definitely recommend.

We stayed here while my wife competed in the World Clay Shooting championships in Sabugo, and it really was a great find. We had a room that was smaller than some (the hotel was full - Benfica football team were there using it as a base) but even then, with a view over the city and river, our balcony was over 90ft in length, complete with sun loungers and table. It is very hard to tell anything bad about this hotel. Maybe the distant location from downtown. Otherwise, great staff, facilities, restaurant, breakfast buffet, swimming pool (both: indoors and outdoors), fitness center, room and, above all, service. The room view, depending of your choice, is also terrific. For U.S. taste maybe the hotel food is not that good. This is an excellent hotel with well deserved 4 star rating. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous. The rooms are large and very clean, the maid service is the best I have seen for a long time. We met the manager, a very friendly and helpful gentleman, who regularly walks around the hotel chatting to guests and ensuring thal all is spotless. Very impressive. Some staff friendlier than others but all courteous and efficient. My wife and son and I had a two-bedroom apartment (with two bathrooms, kitchenette and balcony), which was completely cleaned daily. The buffet breakfast, included in the price, is excellent and broad-ranging and is available from 7.00 to 10.30 am. There are indoor and outdoor pools, and a little private cinema that you can book as you wish to watch a list of English-language or other movies. Travel: 15euro taxi fare from the Airport. 2.5euro bus fare from hotel into the center of Lisbon, about 25 minutes (number 11 from outside the Hotel). General: Hotel was very quiet in June, we usually had the pool and often the restaurant to ourselves. Service was good (usually more staff than guests), although the desk-clarke was not overly friendly. Like everyone else has written ---Excellent! Has everything you need right in the hotel. If you don't have a car, like us, you can walk to neighborhood markets. We walked about 20 mins. to a big grocery store which had everything. It was a rather hilly walk so some people may not be up to it. There is also the #11 Bus stop right near the hotel which takes you to Marques Pombal on the main street downtown. Second visit equally as good as the first. Excellent staff and service. Hotel drivers first rate and highly recommended as are the concierge team. Only disappointment was the very limited food available late in the evening despite the best efforts of the bar staff to help.
