lovely view
from goodtwin
We booked the hotel through RCI. The room was clean and adequate space. The staff at reception were very polite and helpful. The pool was apart from the hotel across a road but it was not really a problem. You had to get to the pool early in order to get sunbeds otherwise they were all taken by 10! We rarely managed this what with having teenagers. The hotel is situated on a hill so there is walking up the hill to restaurants or down to more restaurants and shops. I found Madeira relaxing but with teenagers i think they would have liked abit more night life but they still said they enjoyed it. The cable car ride up to the top of the mountain is worth the view. We went on a jeep ride around the island. That was an experience. A good one.
Enjoyed our honeymoon stay
from veggie2001
We stayed at the hotel through RCI points. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We attended the welcome meeting and happy hour to get a feel for the place. We instantly realized we were one of three couples without silver hair! Also the only Americans. No matter, we were there to enjoy each other's company in newlywedded bliss. And that we did. We took advantage of the pool and ocean swimming, and even got a little sun tanned. We liked that there was a pool table on the property, and the little lobby bar. We did not eat at the lobby restaurant, but tried drinks and snacks from the pool restaurant. The tours planned by the hotel were great, and we really enjoyed the meal at the typical restaurant that was offered. The hotel room was a little musty, and we sadly had a room without a balcony, despite the best efforts of the staff to get us a new room. However we loved the stocked kitchen in the room, and visited the various green/fish markets and supermarkets to find all the interesting local foods to cook! The housekeeper did not do the dishes, however, and there was no dish soap or sponge provided. The little bodega in the front of the property was very convenient and the lady who works there was very nice. Down the road was a nightclub where we met some younger locals, and a few pubs & restaurants that we checked out, and enjoyed (especially since it was a short walk home!) We made many trips into town, it is a short walk, or you can take a shuttle from the hotel (tell the front desk and they will have it stop for you at roughly it's scheduled time). All in all we enjoyed our stay!
Well- run hotel in heavily built- ut area.
from ronnstra
We have had several, pleasant stays in this well- run hotel. Service is excellent; everything is clean, staff is very helpful; nice, quiet atmosphere. They now have an excellent, heated, swimmingpool. The poolside area with bar/ restaurant is very nice. It normally should be possible to bathe directly in the sea, but every time I have been to Madeira the sea has been to rough. The hotel is situated in a heavily built- up zone with little space left. The road in front of the hotel is quite noisy, in particular in the morning when local buses roar out of town. In the evening, however, there are few buses, and much less noise. Most rooms/ apartments have nice views towards the sea or city center. Even if the surrounding area is dominated by huge hotels, there still are some nice areas to take a walk: The Savoy Garden next door to the Club, The Parque de Santa Caterina, the Marina and the port area. There are no good supermarkets in the area. The small supermarked in the Club building is expensive and with only a very small selection of goods. The little supermarket and the wine shop "Mr Joseph" in the nearby Centro Comercial Olimpo are Ok. "Trattoria Bernini" in Aparthotel Imperatriz is excellent.
stuffy overstated Regency club.
from ChrisLancashire
We were booked to stay for 1 week at the Madeira Regency Club in Funchal, and then we stayed at the Pestana Village for the 2nd week. Thank goodness that we were only at the Regency for a week, or we could have died from the looks we received from some of the owners! The major point that the Regency has got going is the view from the balcony - to be honest it was worth the problems for that view. However, you will struggle in high season to get a sunbed and the staff simply ignore you if you are not a "regular". There was a leak in our room that came from the room above, and we didn't get an apology and we had to clean it up ourselves. I had used pots and pans to catch the water and they expected me to wash them up afterward! They got another thought when we left. Then we were lucky enough to be moved to the Pestana Village. What a joy! I realised there that I was the customer! Lovely rooms, fantastic pool views and a great setting. On Madeira the nighlife isn't up to much, but if you want a quiet drink and a chat with friends then it is fine for you. I would not recommend taking children, unless they can keep themselves amused in a pool. Beware the timeshare touts selling "cheap flights" on the main road. Definately rate Madeira for going on a couples holiday but won't take children again. Will avoid the Regency all together.
June in Madeira
from hazeldb
Stayed in the Madeira Regency Club in June and found the hotel lovely. The restaurant and hotel staff were great looking after us and catering for my son who is a coeliac and needs a special diet. We had not problems at all in Madeira with his meals. The rooms were lovely and we had daily room service. The hotel pool was freezing though. The literature says heated! It was probably 1-2 degrees above the sea temperature and very salty. We had booked specially for a heated pool as my children who love swimming but found it too cold. They seemed to be the only children at the hotel during our stay. June seems to be the cloudly month so watch out if you book for June but when the Sun came out, it was so hot that the shade was a relief.
Amazing!

My husband and I spent two weeks at the Madeira Beach Club in Funchal. The facilities were amazing - restaurants, two swimming pools, daily maid service, pool towels, scuba diving, entertainment. Excellent views from our apartment and fab weather.
Madeira Regency Club is a good value
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Madeira Regency from Sept 5-19, 2005. The resort is in a fabulous location facing the sea. Our unit had an ocean view. The resort is in the process of constructing a pool bar and is refurbishing the pool apartments. The service was very good and the apartment was clean and we had daily maid service. The resort provided free shuttle service to Funchal and to Santa de Serra golf course.
Superb location
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have stayed here several times and in other 5 star hotels in and around Funchal. The Regency Club would always be our first choice. The location is excellent as you can swim in the sea and also walk into Funchal city centre. There are good facilities such as the Hopper service into Funchal every 2 hours and the staff at the hotel are extremely helpful. My elderly parents stay there on their own every year and they also find the hotel staff courteous and helpful.
Keep going back
from Conquest1
We love the place and keep going back, staying at the Madeira Regency Club so wonderfully located near to the town centre and harbour and right on the water front. There is never a shortage of thing to do or places to eat and drink. If you're keen on walking this is the island for you and the bus services are pretty good so long as you can find the right bus and the right bus stop. I't not over busy in the summer and it's not a place for most children or teenagers. Friendly people everywhere no wonder we keep going back!

we have stayed at the "club" three times and have always found it to be everything a holiday should be. although catering for the "older" generation, the younger set are welcomed with open arms, funchal has everything a holidaymaker could desire, need anything, just ask! maybe... more
