Good news for all those who have read...

Good news for all those who have read the previous reviews regarding plastic cups, miserable bar staff etc! The hotel is now under new management and they are making a great effort to improve things. They have handed out comment sheets and are acting on them already. Proper glasses - I kid not - are now available in the pool bar area. I'm not sure exactly how some people have treated the staff in the past but we found them all extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful (but then my friend and I are like that too!!) Manuel is still there and our project was to get him to smile and speak to us on the first night and we succeeded, from then on he spoke to us whenever we saw him. OK, he might not be the world's happiest person but he has worked there a long time and works hard and for very long hours. There are now some additional excellent, friendly, young bar staff in the pool bar. The staff on reception were also very good - helpful and friendly, we couldn't fault them. The room was clean, towels and bedding changed every 2 days. The food improved daily and we never went away from the table feeling disappointed or hungry. The entertainment wasn't the best I've ever seen or heard but was OK. All in all, for a cheap, all inclusive holiday I don't think you can go wrong.

Just got back from a week at the Los Fiscos.
I had a lovely time, i felt the need to share this as far too many people are putting the place down for reasons that are a little OTT.
Please consider this is only a 3 star hotel, we paid 325 each so was happy with what i got.
Now, Jose Manuel the bar man that everyone mentions.
He is a nice man!! His English is quite limited, this is why sometimes it seems like he ignores you.
Please dont confuse this for ignorance, he was often smiling and chatting with the guests in the hotel, including us.
He does seem a very busy man, so i think sometimes he just gets caught up in keeping the place running efficiently.
All the staff i though were great.
Great views here which made up for the food being quite basic.
It was ok for what we paid, evenings and lunches being the best.
I liked the fresh fish and pasta the best.
Whilst we were there, there was a change in owners so the plastic glasses have gone!!!
Which does make a difference!
They were also painting as we left, so i think this will only improve the hotel.
I would go back here as its a bargain, lovely views, great location, big rooms and very clean.
Oh and a nice big pool with loads of sunbeds, you can hire a mattress for 10euros for the sunbeds and you get this back when you return it at the end of the week. good idea i think!

Do not stay at this hotel. The food...

Do not stay at this hotel. The food is not fit for human consumption. We paid to go all inclusive and after two nights we could no longer stand the food and ended up eating out every night thereafter. Through the day there was nothing to eat - because again the food they put on for afternoon lunch was inedible. Breakfast was slightly better, but still not nice - we ate breakfast out most mornings as well. Everybody we spoke to in the hotel complained about the food.
The barman who worked most of the time was extremely miserable and slow, and actually made you feel guilty for asking for a drink. The other barmen/women who filled in for the miserable one were extremely pleasant and always smiled.
There was a severe lack of evening entertainment, therefore we ended up going out to other bars - again spending money that we shouldn't have needed to spend given we'd paid all inclusive.
I don't think the pool was ever cleaned - there was debris constantly floating around in the pool. The sunbeds were mainly broken.
The rooms were basic - but then we expected that due to the three star rating - and they were clean, so no complaint about them.
But all in all I would avoid this hotel at all costs.

i have just returned from los fiscos....

May 2008, Mrs A Nugent

i have just returned from los fiscos. weather was brilliant, rooms were good, most staff were nice. the two young waiters in the dining room were extremely pleasant and helpful. the barman was sullen but returned the smiles and greetings we gave him.
alas the female who ran the dining room at lunchtime had a 'hitlerite' attitude which annoyed and actually upset several diners, including ourselves, so that we stopped lunching there. she should learn how to be friendly to her clientele, and simply stop bossing people around and watching their every move. i got no comeback from managemant re. my complaint about her.
the food was adequate but then you get what you pay for.
any other 3 star hotel i have been in has offered a far greater range of choice and i have never before been told to clear away my dishes at each sitting.
the entertainment was either not good or not there, so most of us had to go elsewhere, thus foregoing the all inclusive aspect.
we will go back to half board, if this is what to expect.
i noted a previous review stated that stairs were no more than six per flight. i beg to differ. to get to the pool area i had to descend/ascend no less than than fifty stairs.
we still had a good holiday - lets face it, it's what you make it, but not again at los fiscos.

May 2008, Miss L Richardson

Went to this hotel, due to having a young son and it offering all inclusive. Therefor presuming that unlimited ice creams and juice and meals that would be suitable for him.On Arrival our room was spacious and very clean however a little dated.
The buffet on the first evening seemed to offer a good variety of food, from pasta, rice, pork, fish and chips.
However the buffet seemed to be the same every night and as the food was not very suitable for my son, he chose chips most nights. Which he wouldnt have at home.
The meals just became boring so we ventured out for breakfast and dinner a few times in the 7 days we were there. Would hate to have been there for Two weeks.
Entertainment at night was awfull. Irish dancers one night and a guy singing on the keyboard. The flamenco dancers got cancelled due to a football match. (what u go on holiday for)
Mr grump behind the bar was difficult, wither you were polite, tried to speak spanish or not, he wouldnt smile. If you took a pic of him he did. But that seemed very false.
You got to the stage you didnt want to ask him for anything. Due to his huffy attitude.
Snacks by the pool were pretty much non exsistant. Apart from the paella, which was a deploy for him to get a tip before we left.
Lanzarote was lovely, hotel and rest of the staff were great.
But wouldnt return to the hotel due to Bar Man and entertaiment. And wouldnt risk all inclusive again.
Met some lovely people however and made our own entertainment!!!!

Myself and my wife booked to stay at Los Fiscos, as a last minute cheap break. We paid £570 for a week for 2 people, all inclusive. As all things are relative, we got what we paid for! The hotel is situated in quite a nice quiet location, on a hill. The pool area is not too bad, clean and quiet, with not many children (april). When we went up the steps to the side of the pool area, we were suitably impressed, there was a nice white washed, large sun terrace, with lots of sunbeds (which were the most uncomfortable I have ever lay on, so take some pillows!!!!) there was no noise whatsoever, apart from the birds singing! the terrace had 180 degree views, looking over the sea to the front and the mountains to the rear. We have holidayed in Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia etc etc etc and these views on a clear day were lovely. Now unfortunatley we get to the bad bits, the FOOD, to say terrible would be an understatement (thats unless you like eating pork for every meal) it was poor quality and the same day after day! The staff on the reception desk were all superb, helpful and pleasant, they went out their way to help you. As for Jose Manuel who worked on the bar, he was possibly the most rude, obnoixious person I have ever met! If you do choose to stay at Los Fiscos, I dare you ! try to tame him, YOU WILL FAIL! Finally you ask would we go back, YES! as a second, cheap holiday. As I said we paid £570 for 2 people all inclusive, including flights for one week. IF YOU PAY MUCH MORE YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!! Oh! also the rooms were basic but clean, with a maid service everyday (dont expect a view off your balcony though!!!!!!).

Worried before we travelled due to bad reports about the hotel. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the room which was massive and very comfortable. Food was reasonable all week with a decent variety all week.Entertainment was a bit naff, but we made our own throughout the week. We found that the grumpy old bar manager wasn`t that bad but must admit that the drinks in plastic cups especially the beer didn`t go down very well with anyone. All hotel staff were very pleasant and take note . If you need to use the phone use the one in your room it is cheaper than local call boxes, but you need to ask these questions to find out. We made several calls home and total bill was only just over 5 Euros.Overall a pleasing stay and nowhere near as bad as some people made out. If you want 5 star accomodation then you need to pay 5 star prices

Avoid hotel!
Worse hotel I have ever been at! - This should not have any stars.
Poor food, poor quality of food, not cooked to correct temperatures . Drinks served in a plastic cups - so no pints lads!
No cocktails!
Very unfriendly staff at bar, no entertainment.
Best to get a nice hotel near the beach.

Jan 2008, Miss C Thompson

Me and my boyfriend Graeme went to Lanzarote on the 27th Dec 2007 for 10 days, we were a bit apprehensive about it at first after reading some of the reviews before we went away. However we arrived at the hotel to find we had nothing to worry about, the room was basic but it was clean and had a good view from the balcony.
After we unpacked we went down to the pool bar and found staff were lovely (if you are nice to them they are nice to you). The food was ok, there was a lot of foods I did not fancy but I am a fussy eater and always found something to eat. The staff in the restaurant were kind and offered good service to both me and my boyfriend during our stay at Los Fiscos.
The entertainment was not the best but we always managed to have a laugh!! We went out some nights to some bars at the harbour it cost only 3 euros to get a taxi from the hotel but drinks can be expensive outside so we preferred to sit at the poolside bar at the hotel after all we were all inclusive. All in all we had a great holiday and would definitely consider returning to Los Fiscos in the future!!

Dec 2007, Ms C Beaumont

Me and my daughter Laura went to Los Fiscos for a week, the weather was fantastic and we met some nice people. The room was basic and needed updating a bit! The pool was lovely and not too crowded. The food was basic and got a bit boring by the end of 7 days but was ok sometimes, my daughter had no complaints she thought it was great.
The beach was a bit of a way out but there was a free bus so that was ok. The entertainment was nil and finished by 11pm, the plastic cups we had by the pool were not very nice and the food was a bit bland, but all in all we had a good time only because we met a great bunch or we would have gone mad with boredom in the evening.
I would go to Lanzarote again and maybe to Los Fiscos as a second holiday, and some of the staff were very nice with the exception of one behind the pool bar who was not at all friendly.

Well as having read some of these...

Nov 2007, Miss S Kara

Well as having read some of these comments before I went to stay at Los Fiscos and I was a bit sceptical on what it was going to be like. When we arrived there we were welcomed by a lovely guy behind the reception called George.
We got settled into our apartment which was clean and tidy and headed off to the restaurant for a bit of dinner. The food was laid out in different sections and it was nice. The only downfall I can say is that the food wasn't labelled so my advice would be to try a little bit of stuff before you pile it on your plate. The staff in there are friendly especially Julio he likes to have a bit of banter with you so don't be offended if you cant take a joke.
After eating we went round to the pool area where the bar is. Now having read the comments about the guy behind the bar - Jose or Manual - me and my friend decided to set ourself a mission to get him to smile and we did he was nice to us all week and I even got a kiss out of him on my last night. You have to treat them how you want to be treated if you decide to stay ignorant to them then good luck on getting politeness out of them! The only thing about the bar is that you get drinks in plastic cups but we still managed on getting drunk. The disco at night was for the spanish but we managed to get our line dancing shoes on and join in the fun. We listen to enough english music at home so we enjoyed the change!!
The area the hotel was situated was good even though if you don't go left at the end of the road you end up getting lost - or was that just us???? It costs around 3.30 euros to get to the main clubs and the beach is a short walk away!!!
I can honestly say I will be returning to Puerta del Carmen and hopefully return to Los Fiscos cos I had a brilliant time!!!

Well were do I start? We spent one...
3 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss N Ally

Well were do I start? We spent one week at this hotel and to be relatively honest I have got to say I will never go again, not to that hotel.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who is wanting to go all inclusive, reason being is that the food in the restaurant is so bad we ate out more than twice a day for seven days the only so called decent meal would have to be breakfast but I have to say that was on rock bottom. We took 600 euros thinking that is all we would need for a quiet relaxing week away, but we was proved wrong once looking at the food therefore spent nearly 300euros plus on a decent meal elsewhere even though we had already paid for food and drinks in the all inclusive package. Thinking we would get a decent meal.
Another reason I wouldn't return to this hotel would be the lack of excitement in the staff's lives. I understand that serving beer/drinks etc isn't going to be the most exciting job someone could come up with, but then again just because you’re feeling miserable you shouldn't make the customers feel the same. And as you may or may not have gathered I'm talking about the grumpy old Spanish bar man. Every time I went to get a drink from the bar I would try to make a decent conversation or at least try, but all I would get it a strange look but no smile yet again.
If anyone has watched the Adams family film and has been to Los Fiscos reception around 11pm on a Thursday night I'm sure you will notice Lurch behind the desk, he too is like the grumpy Spanish barman. A smile is very rare as is a few English words, and they can’t say they don't know any English as the hotel was half full of them (the other half being Germans, Spanish, etc etc).
Reason three of why I wouldn't return to Los Fiscos would be because of the very very poor entertainment. I’m not surprised that there wasn't any under 18's there because there wasn't any entertainment for them. We even struggled to fit into the night entertainment which seemed to be more for the older people and mainly the Spanish. The timetable of which showed what the entertainment would be for the week was as useless as the whole thing. For 3 days we was promised disco music (English or Spanish I don't know) but instead it turned out to be a game of Bingo or at least an attempt of Bingo the numbers were called out very slowly and still the Barcelona so called "entertainment" guy got the numbers mixed up apparently there is 91 numbers in a Bingo game, were he got that from I'm still working out.
Moving on...during the day we basically had to make our own entertainment which was the choice of sunbathing, swimming, sunbathing, or yes and swimming. There was nothing to keep the guests happy and entertain or even to persuade them to stay in the hotel... so yet again after spending 1-2 days round the so called pool we had to go elsewhere to entertain ourselves yes costing us more money.
All in all we spent over 700 euros in an all inclusive holiday on food and entertainment for ourselves...we spent that much on the two things that should have been supplied by the hotel that we didn't have enough to buy gifts etc. If I could go on about the complaining I'm sure I would take a whole page up. I would strongly not recommend this for all inclusive or the hotel if your wanting pleasant staff.
