We stayed at Bembridge in the middle of April and had 3 days of sunny weather, although the coastal wind blew quite coldly during our first day. We were using the hotel as a convenient base to explore the Island, as this was our first visit. The countryside was very... more

Went for a long weekend with Angela Holidays to the Bembridge Coast Hotel on the Isle of Wight. Travelled down from Ipswich to Southampton on the worst day in January, high winds, heavy rain etc but got there ok and stayed overnight with friends. The coast pick up was... more

a great holiday
Trying to think of an original christmas gift for hubby I was told by my daughter that his favourite comedian Frank Carson was the guest artist at Bembridge Hotel in the new year. Perfect, I booked on line paying about half of what other review writer hazelha paid, also included ferry crossing. When we arrived at the hotel even before we saw any other guests we both got the feeling of entering a residential home for the elderly, I had an awful feeling that the holiday wasn't going to be what I had hoped for. I couldn't have been more wrong. We had a wonderful time. The room was light, airy and very clean. very spacious with door leading out to the gardens. The food and service were excellent. The best selection of starters I have ever had at a hotel, A lovely salad bar and 1st class carvery. on a down side the bar and small cafateria prices were very high., you get a complimentary coffee in there on arrival we didn't use it again! The highlight of our holiday though was the entertainment Frank Carson was terrific. he put on a wonderful show, then to my husbands delight sat out in the bar with us for a good few hours after the show. He is a real showman. We were also entertained another night by Roy Walker another great evening, he too mixed with us in the bar afterwards. all in all we had a holiday to remember yes a lot of the guests were older than us, but so what ,age doesn't stop you having fun and being good holiday companions. I would certainly go there again and recommend it to anyone.
Lovely location is a real asset
Our Ambassador room no. 18 (sea facing, ground floor with patio in the north wing of the hotel) was large, light and pleasantly furnished. The beds were comfortable, but pillows were polyester - a personal preference I know. Overal the room was clean (it did not appear however to be hoovered once during our stay) but the large bathroom did not come up to standard. A large kettle and ample tea/coffee/milk portions were provided in the room. It was a real bonus to have a sea facing patio room as sunrises were beautiful and shipping in The Solent provided constant interest. Table and chairs were provided for each room and it was lovely to sit outside with a glass of wine in the evening. Food was what you would expect from a large 3* hotel catering for mainly tour groups, or so it appeared when we were there, Generous meat and fish portions were given on both the carvery or the daily choices from the kitchen selection. A lot of the vegetables were frozen and I found them all overcooked. Frozen deserts featured a lot, although fresh fruit salad was available each night. Dinner was served between 6pm-7.30pm and tables allocated for the duration of each stay. Our group objected to this so 'free seating' on a limited scale was allowed. Breakfast was fine - fair range of hot and cold choices available. All the waiting staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful, as were all the staff we met. Public areas look a bit tired and overal cleanliness in the large reception area and restaurant did not appear to be a priority. Time did not allow us to try any of the outside activities like croquet, golf or archery and we did not go to the evening quiz, bingo or entertainment. The average age of the guests we saw was 65+ - we'd been last minute replacments for my parents on an organised tour so we knew the hotel catered for the elder traveller but although I'm only 46 it did not bother me at all. The hotel's biggest assets are it's lovely coastal setting and well kept grounds. Walking along the beach or coastal path leading from the hotel was very relaxing especially just after sunrise or in the evening. The grounds were very pleasant to sit in, either on the grass in front of the hotel or in the Spanish garden behind it. I would not go back as a couple but we had a really enjoyable and fun time as part of a tour whilst at the hotel.
Over 50's only!
My husband and I took my parents (both over 65) for a mid week star break at this hotel. The hotel was located in a lovely area - sea views were great and the weather was kind – however a few small points to note........... The standard rooms although clean and well appointed are somewhat tired - could do with a lick of paint and new linen. We stayed in a Signature Room, which was obviously newly decorated (I'd recommend this if you can afford the extra). The Public Areas are also in need of some refurbishment - paint peeling on some ceilings, worn carpet in some areas etc. Food was OK - but the restaurant was very like a cafeteria, brightly lit and mostly carvery based. You have to be at dinner between 6 and 7.30 pm and you are served your three courses so fast that if you get there for 6pm you are out by 7.30pm easily. Also be warned - when they say ‘Adult’, they mean ‘Adult’, the average age of guest had to be 70! We are still in our 30's, so it felt a little like a break in a care home for a teenager. Some of the guests were lively enough - but the entertainment was geared for the older generation: bingo, ballroom dancing and fun quiz every single night - and the main entertainment was only on for about an hour (between 10 and 11pm). Our Midweek Star Break was John Virgo and Willie Thorne - who were very good, but only on stage one evening for approx 1 & 1/2 hours. There are a wide range of activities provided, but what is not clear from the Web Site or Brochure is that these are scheduled at set times throughout the day, so if you want to do these you have to be back at the hotel at that time (which stops you exploring the island somewhat). We did mention that they may wish to consider early or late sessions of these activities and they said they would note it as a suggestion. Overall the hotel was good - I am sure on a more lively week or weekend it would have seemed more appropriate to us. My Parents enjoyed it and we were made most welcome by the staff. We would not, however, choose to stay there again without my parents to look after us!
Wonderful
We have just had a wonderful weekend at Bembridge Coast. The hotel is modern and the views are fantastic. The hotel is right on the seafront in Bembridge and although a little tricky to find, overlooks the sea and beach. We stayed in a Signature Room overlooking the sea and the room was very modern with a flat screen tv. The food is wonderful (everything you can think of for breakfast) and the evening meal is either a carvery or a choice from the menu. The entertainment was good, although have seen better, but if it is not your cup of tea, you can try the games room, or just the bar area. In the summer you could even sit out by the beach. The grounds are also lovely and well maintained. Although we are only in our late 20s and a lot of people are in their 50s, 60s + we felt as though we were treated the same and all the staff were very friendly and happy to help. All in all a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to returning again soon.
Great location
Never having been to a Warners Hotel before my husband and I were wondering what to expect. This hotel has a perfect location to watch all the ships going to and leaving Southampton. Ground floor, sea view with patio is the best, North side. The food, entertainment, bars and the general surroundings are very good. Our room was large, eqipped for disabled (although we are not) The fact that is it child free is a bonus, no undue noise, no bikes in fact anything that children entertain themselves with. The gardens are a treat, well maintained, although we didn't use the leisure centre it looked also in good condition. The food is good english fare, wine list is above average. No complaints at all, would visit another again, but we were told by regular visitors that Bembridge Coast is one of the best.
A lovely hotel!
The grounds surrounding this hotel hotel are very impressive, with manicured lawns and palm trees, a putting green, bowling green and Archery targets. There are hundreds of padded loungers and a great sea view. We were lucky to have sunshine all weekend. The rooms were very clean, and we had a sea view room which was well worth having. Could see the cruise ships which had left Southhampton an hour ago sail on by. The beach at Bembridge is a few minutes walk away, if you go down to the beach from the grounds and walk towards Whitecliff Bay (right) After 10mins stroll you will see The Crab & Lobster, A fab seafood pub - On Sunday, we read the papers in the sun after breakfast (which was very good, ; cereals, plain yogart , cherries, grapefruit, prunes, etc, and help yourself buffet cooked english breakfast - lovely thick bacon!!) we then bought the Sunday papers from the shop in the hotel, read them on the manicured lawns on a sun lounger, had a coffee from the coffee shop there brought out to us. Then strolled down to the aforementioned pub for a lobster salad lunch. Didn't want too much as dinner in the evening at the hotel (which includes a carvery every night). A HANDSOME HOTEL IN LOVELY GROUNDS, CHILD FREE - With good caberet theme weekends and mid week breaks - enjoy!!
great stay
We stayed at the Bembridge coast Hotel for a midweek break. We hadn't been back to the hotel for several years. We were a bit apprehensive as had read some poor revues on trip advisor. Had a great time in Bembridge and will definately be going back. The service from all of the staff is excellent, everyone is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Think the hotel needs a freshen up as decor hasn't changed since we last visited but everywhere was spotlessly clean.
Winter Weekend break
Have just returned from Weekend break at this hotel. The location and setting is delightful. Our room an Ambassador was excellent, warm and comfortable. staff were very helpful and efficent. As a couple, we found this hotel to have drawbacks on certain weekends, on this particular occasion there was a bowling contest taking place, this and three other Warners hotels have bowling facilities laid on. Therefore the hotel consisted of large groups of bowlers who tended to be as large groups are rather noisy making couples seem fairly marginilised from what is going on. Entertainment for two evenings was poor the last evening was much better but we could not get a seat after 9 pm when the show started. As this was a 60s weekend, the young staff who ran the disco did not seem to have a clue as to what people want to dance to. I would say our overall impression for our weekend was OK relaxing but not recommended for couples when large groups are present.
its great
we stayed in this hotel for 2nights and it was a great place. though we were not aware that most of the guests that time were real adults(elderly). it was just me and my husband who were the young guests. However when we went there, the weather wasnt very nice so we have to stay most of the day indoors, fortunately, they have leisure activities- spa, gym, sauna, pool, and even have a mini-bowling, pool, table tennis and darts. Food is great. The lady staff who were serving us is nice and friendly. They have also entertainments at night but it so sad because their activity was more catered for the elderly..but i recommend the place "for adults ONLY"...yet, i'd love to go back there when im 60 years old!
What a waste of money
We stayed at the Bembridge Coast Hotel for a three night Rhythm 'n' Blues weekend. What an absolute waste of £400.00 and three days. There really are no redeeming features about this place. It is more like a holiday camp than a hotel. The public areas are dirty and shabby, the rooms have beds and bedding that must have been there since the place was built. The staff really don't give a ---! - I trod on a piece of glass in the bathroom and met with total indifference when this was reported. As for the food the quality and selection were very poor - even the waiter told us he thought the food was disgusting! Overall a very bad experience.
