Tiny, stiflingly hot room
Perfect location, great food, impeccable service and if you're a dwarf you'll probably think the rooms are OK too...unless the weather's hot! This room was ridiculoulsy small. I live in a small 2-up, 2-down terrace and my smallest bedroom is bigger than this!! The bed was a small double, barely capable of fitting 2 adults comfortably. Even if one of us had been prepared to sleep on the floor there wasn't the space to do so! Then there was the bathroom with its 3/4 length tub that was too small to fit any reasonably sized adult.<br... more
a bit of a dump
We stayed at the Regent in June. It looked great on the website and we really were looking forward to it. However, we were put in one of the rooms near the car park which was more of a dingy motel room than a nice hotel room. There was little light, partly becasue we needed to keep the net curtains closed for a modicum of privacy. The bathroom was small and tired with chipped tiles and flooring. It's a pity because my impression was that rest of the place has been done up quite nice. The breakfasts were fine and the waiting staff were... more
great weekend
We stayed in this hotel for two nights in May and had a very enjoyable time. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was lovely (room 2 I think) in the main part of the hotel. Breakfast excellent. We had dinner there one night which was pretty good too. Set price around £20 for 3 courses- except nearly every dish has a supplement price!!. Only critisism was the ridiculously over priced alcoholic drinks- £10 for 2, not even doubles....def not worth it when there is a nice bar in the hotel over the road. Weather was rubbish when we... more
Good and bad about the Regent - not overly baby friendly
We stayed at the Regent for two nights with our nine month old son. The hotel is very nicely decorated and the food lovely. The staff were freindly too. However we did find the owner to be a little unhlepful - the receptionist we spoke to early in the day said that room service was available until 8.30 and as we could not leave our room with a baby we relied on this - we were then told by the owner when we phoned to double check the time at seven that we would have to hurry up and order if we wanted it in a rather impatient tone. We were... more
Disappointing
We are regular visitors to Ambleside and have often admired the location and outward appearance of The Regent, so for our wedding anniversary we chose this hotel for a weekend away without the kids - what a disappointment. Going through the hotel it appeared ready for a make-over as the wallpaper was torn and the carpets threadbare in places. We were given a room (rm 26 I think) away from the main hotel, which from the outside looked like a cheap motel room, inside was no better. The decor was very dated with the carpet badly... more
over rated
i carefully selected the regent hotel as my place to stay for the weekend as it was reconmeded by a friend. however, i couldnt help but feel disappointed. The garden area was dirty and unkept, the food tastless and the service marginally better. the room was very nice and spacious, and this is the reason this review gets 2 out of 5 and not 1 out of 5. breakfast was ok - again service slow - but gordon ramsey would have had a field day with the spectacle that was dinner !!! never again.
Great stay
Me and my girlfriend stopped in this hotel in Jan 2005. We stopped here after having a lovely stay at the Regents sister hotel "Lakeslodge" which was spotlessley clean and had a lovely breakfast. Anyway after pushing the boat out for a garden room (60 pp per night b & b) we both agreed it was worth it. Our room (number 44) was a garden room with a jacuzzi bath. The room was adacent to the hotel carpark in a seperate building housing 4 "garden rooms". The room was large, clean and it was great unwinding in the... more
Another very enjoyable visit
My wife and I have just enjoyed another excellent short break at The Regent (pity we couldn't stay longer). The room was particularly comfortable, the staff, as always, very pleasant & helpful. The recently redesigned restaurant/menu provided superb food, with excellent choice & good service. Looking forward to next time.
OK rather than great
I stayed at the Regent Hotel on a busy saturday night and maybe this is why service was so slow and the food so average in the restaurant that night. The rooms were undeniably comfortable however the bath room wasnt the cleanest ive ever seen. This hotel has a great location and lovely views but i can only express my disappointment as I found the management/owners to be quite un welcoming despite the fact I am a valued customer. Will try somewhere else the next time I stay there.
superb food,excellent service,comfy rooms
The Regent is a lovely family run hotel which provides superb, unobtrusive service, comfortable well equiped and immaculate rooms and the excellent chef serves the most delicious food in the elegant restaurant. We have been visiting The Regent for many years and have never been disappointed. We will always stay there when visiting the Lake District.
