My fiance and I recently stayed here on our honeymoon. What beautiful views from our room and the deck outside the inviting library!! We loved watching the ships along the river. This place is a hidden treasure with a very comfortable room and thoughtful staff. They gave us great suggestions for local touring and helpful directions. Every request was promptly attended. This intimate hotel in the old part of Lisbon is well worth discovering! On the outside it looks simple, but once inside you will discover a charming world of bygone romance and old English decoration! The library overlooking the river Taag is very relaxingand has a small balcony with bartables ans chairs. We found this hotel on the internet and we were pleasantly surprised! It was beautfully decorated with antique furnishings and lots of color. They even faux painted some columns and molding to look like marble. It was pretty impressed the amount of time and detail that went into the decor. Aside from that the rooms were huge and the bathroom even larger. The staff was extremely accomodating and spoke multiple languages. They arranged dinner reservations, taxi rides and more. Every detail of our stay at this hotel was exquisite. The setting, overlooking the Targas River was splendid; the room was cozy, yet spacious and the staff was first rate.

I stayed here in the summer of 2000. Everything was fantastic. The hotel is in an old mansion, in a residential neighborhood away from downtown. The staff was very helpful and friendly; the public areas (a living room/salon and back garden where breakfast is served) are inviting; our room (in the back of the hotel, overlooking the garden) was quiet, large and very, very nice (especially the blue and while ceramic tiled bathroom); and the complementary port decanter was a nice touch.

My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend in Lisbon. We tucked ourselves away in Hotel As Janalas Verdes, in Lapa, the peaceful embassy district in Lisbon. The hotel is part of the small Heritage chain of hotels in the city and is housed in a renovated 18th century townhouse. The secret of the wonderful few days we had at this lovely small hotel, was not the excellent position, not the tasty breakfasts, not the free gratis full carafe of vintage port that I downed on my own before bedtime, not even the free small box of handmade choccies that my partner scoffed while I was enjoying my port. My wife and I and a couple of friends stayed here in 2001 but I'm sure that it is still wonderful. Situated away from the city centre in the Embassy district overlooking the Tagus and close to the national Museum. A small intimate hotel with great character, furnished with antiques but with modern amenities. Lovely breakfast room and friendly, helpful staff who arrange everything for you and give good advice on what to see and where to eat. Strongly recommended
