Good Location and Space, Odd Smell
This was actually more of a 3.5, because the location was convenient to the Barrio Alto, Metro, and Baixa districts. The room size was also impressive. We somehow got a triple room when only requesting a double. So, we had so much room to spread out. The bathroom was good-sized, but it was older, and it smelled pretty odd...It was a carpeted hotel, which is odd in Europe, and I think the carpet held smells...I can't say it was horrible. We actually enjoyed this much more than other places we've stayed. But, it could be improved some...
Loved Lisbon, but not this hotel!
First of all: We love Lisbon! It's a great city. It has lots of nice restaurants (from very cheap to very expensive) and it's a lot of fun to walk to all kinds of places. It has beautiful views almost everywhere you go. The Veneza Hotel looks really nice in their folder, but we had a not so nice room. It was very small and hardly had any wardrobe space. The bed was good, the bathroom was very cramped. It didn't have a bath, just a shower stall. We didn't mind that so much. The problem with the shower was that you had to hold it in your... more
Hotel Veneza was our favorite on our recent European trip.
First of all, for context: CHERIE AND I LOVED LISBON, the city and its people -- and we loved Hotel Veneza. If you don't groove on Lisbon, you're probably dead, but I suspect that some of the reviewers noted below weren't having a very good time of it, and that colored their review of Hotel Veneza. Lisbon is a city that requires you to get out and walk and talk and meet people. It's not a tourist town per se, although it's a very kind and hospitable place, and very beautiful at a human scale. In other words, it's a real city, a really... more
Don't believe all the bad reviews!
I was dreading staying here after reading the reviews but I was really pleasantly surprised. On the down side, the rooms were a bit wee, there wasn't much of a view, if you are on the tall side the shower might prove a bit tricky and yes, the central stair case was blocked off. But on the plus side, the rooms were clean, the staff helpful, the area was very quiet, the breakfast serviceable and above all the location was excellent. It was 2 mins from the metro and the escalador to Bairro Alto and within walking distance to lots of... more
Nothing good to report on this depressing little hotel
We have stayed in many hotels in Europe - all a mix of quality three star and four star properties. This hotel - a three star - was quite easily the worst European hotel we have stayed in. The room - whilst large - smelt musty. There was no view and no natural light. The pillows were minute and lumpy. The bathroom didn´t seem terribly clean and there was no overhead shower - which would have been fine had the bath been clean, but it was a bit grotty. Our room was right near the antiquated lift which whirred from early hours of the morning.... more
looks charming, but can do much better
The lobby and staircase look lovely. But on arrival to our room, the bathroom smelled like old towels had been in there a week. It was mildew and musty smell. They moved us to a different room, which was better. Don't be fooled by their promise of air conditioning. They have the hotel set for heat or ac, not both. We were hot after a day of sight seeing, and only heat would come out of our controller. We were told they don't have the ac on yet. So we layed on top of the bed, sweating. We had a window, but not much breeze came thru.... more
Expensive and not really nice
This place is OK but shabby for this price You should go to residencial Londres in the old town the access to the reception is bad but the rooms are surprisingly nice seen in "guide du routard"
Veneza is lovely, quaint, and comfortable
We stayed at the Hotel Veneza in March for 6 nights and loved it. It was right in the middle of all going on, and within walking distance to just about anywhere. (Also right by the sub station) Veneza was once family's residence...our room was on top floor, towards the back of the hotel. It was quiet, the view was lovely, and the bathroom was large and newly remodeled. The roof sloped sharply in our room and it took some bumped heads to get used to it. Everything was very clean and well-kept. The bed was a king and very comfortable.... more
Pleasant stay at Veneza
We stayed at this lovely small hotel for 4 nights and it could not have been a better experience. The staff was pleasant, the rooms were clean and it was a great location.
Cant beat the location
We visited Lisbon in the beginning of September, 2003 and stayed for a week at the Hotel Veneza. The room was on the third floor, at the back with an ok view of a court with greenery and entrance to a parking. We were happy with the standard of the hotel and the room; which was quite spacious and silent. The breakfast is served in a little room so you might have to wait for a few mintes for a table. The staff was friendly and service minded. The hotel is located ideally at the main avenue a short walk from downtown. The way is... more
