Good clean hotel, good food,...
8 / 10
Sep 2006, Mr A Richmond

Good clean hotel, good food, entertainment could have been better, value for money very good I would recommend this hotel to anyone going there.
I have had many holidays to Majorca this one would be one of the best.
Calas de Majorca is a bit quiet for some good for a relaxing holiday.

Aug 2006, Mr P Bonny

Warning typing this from the hotel, 7 English people including ourselves have had their rooms robbed of all valuable possessions. With there being a lot of spanish and Dutch this figure is probably higher, avoid this hotel.
I have stayed in others in the resort over the years and enjoyed our stay. If you are booked in please consider changing direct holidays and Thompsons are aware of 6 burglaries between them all without breaking the doors so someone using a key is to blame.

Overall our holiday at Eurocalas was...

Aug 2006, Mr C Barns

Overall our holiday at Eurocalas was fine and we booked up very late so could not grumble too much (we paid £1500 for a family of 3 for 14 nights).
The rooms were on the small side but were very clean and cleaned 5 days a week. The air con was a God send and could be left on all day so the room was nice and cool. The only negative I would say about the rooms where the walls were paper thin!
The facilities were again fine. The pools were excellent although getting a sun bed with a parasol required a 6.30 rise to lay out towels.
Meal time did feel a bit like being back at the school dinner hall and it was chips with everything!! We could however always find something to eat, although did feel the need to eat out on a couple of occasions simply for a change of scenery.
Overall fine but wouldn't rush back.

I was apprehensive about this holiday...
9 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr J Sullivan

I was apprehensive about this holiday after reading some of the reviews, but it turned out to be one of the nicest places I’ve stayed!
We arrived at the resort at 12:15 pm reception was quite busy and only had 1 person working, our room was not ready at this time (but when I checked our confirmation details check in was stated as after14:00) we were allowed to store our luggage in a secure room and were able to use all of the facilities until the room was ready.
The rooms are quite spacious and very clean, it seems a bit hit & miss about how much cutlery etc is in each room as we had all you could want where as a person we met just had the microwave. But with food available from 8 in the morning until 10 at night who needs to cook?
The quality of the food was excellent with plenty of choice served buffet style, we are also fussy eaters but we ate more on this holiday than we would have in a conventional type hotel restaurant; we tried a little of everything!
The hotel grounds are well kept and very pretty, apart from the usual claiming of sun beds by putting out the towels at some ungodly hour the pools were also a pleasure to be at. If you like all British hotels then this is not for you as it was predominantly German. Italian & Spanish guests. The entertainment reflected this as it was geared up for European tastes, not quit my taste! But the entertainment team did their best and after introductions to everything in four languages the time went quite quickly.
I didn’t have any problems with the bar service – yes every thing is served in 250 ml plastic cups, but the staff were not condescending and you got served quickly and as often as you liked.
All in all a very nice hotel in a resort that would have been too quiet if we wanted to go there for entertainment.

Jul 2006, Mrs S Scotland

After reading loads of reports about this hotel, I thought I was going to a 1960's style Butlins holiday site. But when I got there I was very taken back.
The complex was spotless cleaned every day, pool areas, washed down, sun beds arranged, entertainment area's made safe. And most of all the stuff went out there way to help you.
The rooms were light and airy, with air con that worked very well. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels given. The only draw back that there was only a microwave in the apartment, no plates, cups or cutlery. The bathroom was quite big with an old looking shower, but it worked better than my one at home, very powerful.
The food was great, with loads of dishes to choose from, I’ve got 2 fussy eaters and i found them trying new dishes all the time. There is something there for everybody to eat. Ranging from 10 hot dishes to cold meats, cheese. Salads, fruits, puddings. The list is endless. Plus you can help yourself to beers, wine, fizzy drinks and water.
All drinks are served up in plastic cups, 4 cups is about a pint of beer, but at the bar area u are only aloud 2 alcoholic per person at one visit. But you can drink all day if you want too! The bar people work well and fast, they service about 3 people at once.
The kids are well looked after, entertainment every day. There is no reason that your child would ever get board, the staff do a very good job.
There is some building work going on there right opposite the hotel, there was no noise, and this did not affect our holiday.
This hotel is well worth the money, I will be going back there again.

Jun 2006, Mr Ben Taylor

The hotel itself is very nice. 4 pools, tennis courts, football etc.
What let it down the most was the food! They seem to love serving chips at this place and lots of veal!
The staff were ok, but like to make you feel a bit self conscious going up for another beer (if all inclusive) they serve drinks in very tiny cups and after going up for the 4th beer (about a pint total) they kind of look at you very strange!
I don’t think we would have enjoyed this hotel in high season, we arrived the 2nd day of the season and was only 50 guests for a 13:00 capacity hotel so was very peaceful.
They have good internet facilities here with 2 booths in the main area.
May go back again one day but in no rush!
The chef here needs sacking! Other than that it’s an 'ok' hotel. The pools are the best feature here, without them it wouldn't be too great! (The pools are very cold by the way, were in May anyway).

Well..... I and my family stayed at...
9 / 10
Oct 2005, Miss Kw Ward

Well..... I and my family stayed at this hotel. We all thought the hotel was very well laid out, with there being 4 pools to choose from. And in the day there was always some where to sit, as there were lots of sun beds! We thought sun beds were quiet comfy.
Food was lovely...something there for everyone!
We were very pleased with the restaurant and bar. Thought the staff were very helpful, and also lovely and friendly, we couldn’t of asked for any nicer people really the entertainers were the same. They seems to put in a lot of effort to keep every one entertained at night and in the day! I found the receptionists very helpful too and very friendly!
The hotel was what it said on the internet and the brochure for us so... any off you who have wrote on this and said that it was not how you expected it. I don’t who you went with but its your own fault really for not going in to it more!
Chips weren’t there at all times when we were there we had a variety of different potatoes (roasted, boiled, chips, slices etc).
I think that the chips that were put on were for a snack for the children, as most children nowadays only eat fatty food and snacks anyway!! When you arrive at the hotel a colored hand band is placed on your wrist to show you are staying at the hotel. This is to be worn at all times. This was fair enough in my eyes! They weren’t that sharp. And if they were the sense would have been to cut it again or to put a plaster of something on it to cover the end!
The bar doesn’t close dead on time at all. If there was people waiting for drinks they would still get you them. But fair play if that had anyway, I mean if you had been working all day, don’t you think you have the right to go home on time or not much after closing time especially if you were only getting paid till that time anyways!
All in all, I would say that our stay at this hotel was Fabulous! And I would go back to Callas de Mall orca (EuroCalas).
The beach and main town was lovely plenty of shops really!
The beach was away but we went down there and it was definitely worth it after the views very great! Like it said in the brochure...... quiet and scenic place!
I think some of you thought you were going to a 5 star you have to remember it was only a 3! And a Very good 3 star at that!
So I'd most certainly give it a 9 out off 10 ! The ones that gave the chefs a 1 out 0f 10 (That was a bit Harsh) you need to go into were your staying next time I think! Because I am very shocked at what you have put... if I'd have read that before I went it would off put me right off it and I wouldnt have ended up going! So any one looking at this I'd take it from me we loved it! And we have allready booked it again!
Kate x X X x
We would also like to give a big thank You to the Rep which was also very helpful and freindly!

I read the reviews with some...

Aug 2005, Mr K Book

1 reader found this review helpful

I read the reviews with some trepidation after booking last minute without doing a check first.
The selling point for me was air conditioning/microwave and kettle as we have a 3 month old and sterilising and preparing bottles not to mention keeping her cool were pre-requisites.
Arrived early hours Sun morning after a midnight flight from UK, whole family exhausted and ready for some shut eye before breakfast.
Oh dear, no cot in our room, pre-requested on booking. Oh dear, no bedding for our son’s bed.
Oh dear, the beds we did have were knocked together by the local woodwork class and somewhat on the short side.
The room could also have done with a visit from the cleaning team.
The family remained optimistic that things could only get better - how wrong we were.
The food here is absolutely abysmal.
I am a soldier with 18 years service and in that time I have eaten in some extremely difficult environments and had meals cooked for me under extremes of conditions. I guarantee if the food served at Eurocalas had been served to me on duty my weapon would have been utilised on the chefs.
If you like food swimming in grease, with all semblance of flavour extracted at source then the Eurocalas is the hotel for you. If you are a fan of Chips, soggy and limp, then the Eurocalas is the hotel for you.
The highpoint of the culinary master class was breakfast when we had toast!!!
The transport to the beach I can only assume was a trial run for the return airport transfer, as it was a stampede.
The resort, that is a general term, seemed to be closed for the season. very few bars and restaurants were open, the bar/restaurant adjacent to the hotel set the scene for the main road leading into the centre of the resort which was also full of empty properties.
I managed to escape the Eurocalas on the Thursday and headed for the Atolon at Cala Bona/Millor and that just about rescued our holiday.
The Eurocalas is without doubt the worst accommodation, (worse than a tent in the desert, worse than a hole in Pristina), and the food is disgusting.
Stay at the Eurocalas at your peril!!!!

Having read good and bad comments...
9 / 10
Oct 2004, Mrs S M Stagg

Having read good and bad comments about our hotel complex on this site we were really excited. We were put into the new hotel block and it was fantastic. Roomy accommodation, big bathroom and nice patio overlooking the pool and sea. There are three pools so plenty of room for everyone. The food was quite basic but very nice as was the dining room. The bar was a beautiful room all black marble and mirrors! The children enjoyed the kids club and the evening kids disco. Later shows were enjoyable as well. The little shop stocked most things you could need and a complex of small souvenir shops was within walking distance. We had a fantastic seven day break there, everything was clean and the hotel staff and on-site rep were very helpful. We would definitely go back again. Just leave plenty of time to get to boarding when at Palma Airport as takes ages and a very long walk.

The food was awful, they put sultanas...
6 / 10
Aug 2004, Mrs J Gee

The food was awful, they put sultanas in the scrabbled egg. Meats were fatty. Rice was stuck together like mash and we only had potatoes 3 times. Boiled once. Roasted once, but did not get any as they were all gone and new ones once. Salad bar was fine. Chips at breakfast, dinner, tea and snacks.
The hotel had no control over guests. It is just not good enough, that kids run into the dinning room and taking the beer, as it was quiet in there at night. Some looked about 11, 12 years old, then causing havoc around the pool area and the police had to be called.
We think there were at least six break in’s. Guest took sunbeds up to their rooms. There were never enough chairs at night to sit outside when the entertainment started. You would see people coming from the side of the buildings carrying the chairs they must have hidden.
No signs around to warn you wet floor and one day they brushed up around the buffet while you were eating and getting food. Shame as the hotel was nice and garden kept nice they just let the guests do anything they wanted.

On arrival at Eurocalas – No lift...
4 / 10
Aug 2004, tydraw

On arrival at Eurocalas – No lift in the 4-storey apartment block “Furmentera” (featured as block 5). Families with small children had to hump pushchairs up and down the marble stairs whilst trying to hold on to their children.
A rusty motorbike is permanently chained in the entrance lobby of this apartment block along side two old bicycles.
We had hired a car, the nearest place to park the car to “Furmentera or block 5” has a burned-out car occupying a space. (For example: This is visible from front door of room 5205.) When we arrived at our studio I opened what I thought was a wardrobe door but it turned out to be the already occupied apartment next-door, with open suitcases etc. etc.
There is a small beach near to the Eurocalas, 300 metres away, but down approx 150 steps. No steps were mentioned in the advertised brochure. The next beach is a bus ride away.
Security
The entrance to accommodation block “Furmentera at Club Eurocalas” is not well lit. There is a security camera pointing at the entrance but the vision of this camera is heavily obstructed by foliage.
Some of the apartment doors have badly fitting doorframes to the apartment rooms and security looks doubtful. Some people had hired safes in their room. On one particular evening during our one-week stay, a few rooms whose occupants hired the “safety deposit facility” had their rooms broken into. The safes were stripped away from their secure holding and were taken with all contents.
Health and Safety
When you arrive at the hotel a coloured hand band is placed on your wrist to show you are staying at the hotel. This is to be worn at all times. The cut edge of the hand-band is razor sharp. A resident was cut the whole length of his chest by someone else’s hand-band at one of the pools.
The pool at the back of apartment block “Furmentera, block 5” was supposed to be 1.8 meters at its deepest end. Several times we had to stop children jumping and diving into the pool because it was way below the stated water depth. An adult of 5' 4" height could easily stand up in this pool. The scum-mark is visible where the water is supposed to be.
The shallow end of the pool (which is supposed to resemble a beach area) was far too steep to just walk into. Great care is required entering and leaving the pool. It is really slippery and dangerous for both children and adults. The step into the pool at the deeper end has its handrails bound with silver sticky tape. At no time while we were there did we witness any of the three pools being checked for cleanliness. There were no visible signs of people taking samples from the pool water. Pool toilets are not cleaned regularly. In fact the pool toilets at “Furmentera block” of Eurocalas smelled quite disgusting.
During evening entertainment no glasses are collected from the tables until the end of the night. Wasps and flies were all over the tables. The cleanliness during this time was non-existent.
Services
The food is absolutely diabolical at Club Eurocalas. What we did eat was extremely bland. All the bread served was stale. Every morning for breakfast we bought our own milk to put on our cereal because milk provided was exceedingly warm. Food was not constantly served during the advertised time. Only one morning did we manage to have bread for toast.
A packed lunch (or picnic) consisted of per person:
One small bottle of water
One very large tomato (which because of its size took up most of the room in the picnic box)
One pear
One stale bread roll with one butter and one square of marmalade
One slice of Spam with olives in it
One slice of cheese you would find in a cheeseburger
This really is not sufficient if you are out for the day.
I complained through 3 different people before I could get an extra bottle of water each.
If you go to the outside restaurants it is full of people who have booked into the “Eurocalas” but have gone outside for “Decent Food”. They are recognisable by their hand-bands. When you pay to go all-inclusive you do not expect this extra expense. I’m glad only two of us were on holiday and not the usual family of 5 or the extra expense would have been astronomical.
The bar closes at 11.45 pm, so you have to get your last orders by 11.30 pm. It closes dead on this time whether you’re in a queue "or not". There is a bar (Moonlight bar) that opens at 12.15 am until 3.00 am situated above the downstairs bar. There is no lift facility to this bar.
Entertainment
It is usually the same entertainment staff during the day as well as the night but the entertainers do work extremely hard. These entertainers are especially great for the children. There are plenty of sports facilities in evidence at this complex.
Conclusion
If you are about to holiday here, be prepared to splash out a lot of money on “eating out” because the food at Club Eurocalas is really, really awful. I am not surprised there is usually accommodation available at this complex. Take some sticky tape with you to conceal passports and airline tickets in unusual places around your room because the security here is non-existent. Keep your suitcases locked at all times. People couldn’t wait for their week to go quickly, others regretted booking for 2 weeks. As for us, never again.
For those who are confident, bring your driving licence and hire a car from Palma airport, it only cost us £95.00 for a 5-door diesel Fiesta, air conditioned and full of fuel, including insurance (this was ample for one weeks stay). Then you can dismiss those transfer costs. We shopped around and booked our car with a Spanish company Centauro on the Internet one week before we left Britain.
The apartment was very clean but it wasn’t until we were invited into someone else’s apartment on the last day we noticed that we were missing a microwave.
We complained twice to a Tour Representative, once about the ration offered as a picnic and the second about the food in general. Not once did the representative take our names, address’s or room number or attempt to put anything in writing.
Eurocalas is in desperate need of a “Mystery Shopper” from tour operators. It would be a good idea if during a mealtime a representative from the tour company walked around the dining hall and asked for peoples comments on the food. Better still take Club Eurocalas out of the brochures altogether.

Club Eurocalas has a mixture of European residents. We met German, Dutch, Spanish, French, British and Italian.
The resort of Calas de Mallorca lacks Spanish personality, but the local restaurants and bars are really very good and clean. It is well worth visiting at night with its shops open until late, China Town cuisine and there is a small fun activity area for children.
