Good value hotel in the heart of Central Funchal from BrianOSuilleabhain
This is one of very few hotels located in the heart of Funchal and is ideal for people seeking to explore the centre of the town. The hotel is situated on a narrow street with lots of traffic so it can be noisy at the front. Our room was at the back of the hotel and was very quiet. As a bonus the hotel provides free parking for up to around 8 cars in a small yard at the centre of the hotel complex. Much better places in Funchal from illinigrl311
My best friend and I stayed at the Windsor for 3 nights over Easter holiday. We thought the hotel was not a 4*, much more of 3* - the room was quite dated and the bathroom needed to be redone. It is true the location was central but we just noticed walking around how many amazing resorts were available on the island which made the Windsor seem even more average. I also found one staff member in particular to be extremely rude when I tried to bring another friend of ours up to our room. I was told the only person allowed in the room with me... more

Got back from the Windsor Hotel last week, and have to say Madeira is a beautiful place to stay. Booked the hotel on beatthatquote and it worked out at about £30 each for 3 nights! WOW! The location is superb, with a 10 minute walk to the marina and a 5 minute walk to the centre of Funchal. There is a supermarket about a minute's walk away if you have forgotten any holiday essentials. Don't expect a british 4* hotel, but expect a clean one with good facilities. Good value Hotel from Lottie61
Good value for money hotel in the heart of Funchal, staff are very helpful and friendly and breakfast is continental type and plenty of it. If you are a light sleeper I recommend that you ask for a room at the back of the Hotel when you book as we had a room on the first floor at the front and had alot of noise from the road late at night , and at 7.30am every morning breakfast starts and you hear the noise of the chairs being pulled about, but really that was the only complaint we had. Convenient base from Nuuki
We stayed at the Windsor for 2 nights, at the end of a 1 week tour of the island. The main attraction of the Windsor its its convenient location, combined with good value. It really is in the heart of the town, and the convenience of being able to step outside and straight onto the bussling streets was great. We'd previously stayed at one of the larger hotels in the hotel district, and whilst this provided undeniably more luxury for us the 15 minute walk from the district into town offset that. What a little gem!! 5 minutes to the Sea, Bus Station, Old Town, Market and the shops. Dead centre. The rooms are light and airy, excellent facilities but 4 star in Portugal is not what 4 star is in the UK. So what, once you have sat on the roop top terrace with the pool and an incredible view, you realise how lucky you are having chosen this Hotel. Hotel adequate, but from asclepius
The hotel boasts that it is the only 4 star hotel in Funchal, a jewel of a town that we enjoyed immensely. One of the hotel's selling points for us was the roof-top pool with pool bar, but this was never open during our stay - lack of staff was given as the excuse. Staff excellent and the hotel very handily situated especially for the bar directly opposite the front entrance! The hotel is centrally located with secure parking facilies. It was ideal for our two night stay providing cheerful and helpful service, a comfortable and good-sized room, space to sit downstairs when it poured with rain, and a breakfast with several choices. The price was very reasonable and significantly lower than many others that we considered. Stayed there 18th till 25th December 2006. Had booked before reading reviews and was a bit worried. The room was pretty small and not all that well laid out, we had a room away from the road, (the odd numbers) so it was quiet. Maybe it's noisy in the evens... Anyway, we had no problems at all with the property other that its size. Clean, not smoky, public areas as well. Breakfast OK apart from dilute orange ( which I've seen around the island elsewhere). Although this hotel receives favourable mention in several guidebooks, my partner and I found it a most unpleasant place to stay and cannot understand why it has 4 stars. The room which we were allocated stank of stale cigarette smoke, but we were forced to stay there for 2 nights until another room became available. On asking for a non-smoking room, we were told that all rooms were "non-smoking", this despite the provision of ashtrays throughout!
