Excellent range of food. Believe me. Wonderful fish and meat dishes. The Spanish do know how to cook. We have stayed in over 30 all-inclusives over the last 20 years, and the hotel ranks in the top 3 world-wide. If you want burgers and chips forget it. The surrounding walks... more

mimossa never sleeps
a two week holiday with travel city direct for 2 adults in their 30's and three kids aged 8, 7, 2. entertainment day and night for all ages mimossa (sorry if not spelt right) was the tops he never sleeps, put hubby and kids to bed one night and went clubbing with all the staff in the town about ten minutes away sneaked in about 5am only to be up with the kids for breakie at 8am and there was mimossa rounding everyone up for shooting at 9am, which if i may say i had my beer goggles on and still won the certificate that night. day 8 got my bag stolen of the pram (before 9.30 pm) the gippo's come up the back gate so beware and i had not even had my 1st drink so please get yourself a safe and use it!!! if your staying in the hotel at night just put a couple of euros in your pockets for the kids!!! i had been shopping and had all my credit cards and 200 euro in my bag which went and my cards where used in the cash machine out side within the hour but not successful to withdraw as they didnot put in the correct pin number there is mini golf down at the town plenty of places to eat and drink and the sports bar has a big screen for the footy where i watched an inportant match for LIVERPOOL F.C. a nice pint of cold stella and lime in a chilled glass and met some old mates from home while the hubby was fishing with the kids. nice shops would go again. they make the kids feel special in the shows and the adults have to do a umm waggga wagggga dance for wining their certificate but at the end of the day your on holiday and its all part of the fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so enjoy we did .........love d
pleasent stay at the Balmoral for the money
The Balmoral had plenty to offer if you wanted it. The animation team worked flat out to entertain you if you wanted too you could be doing games etc all day. the hotel was very clean and tidy the rooms were spacious and clean. you could have fresh towels everyday and beds were changed twice a week. the people that complained must of been bored why would you want to go on holiday to watch telly. We were there when the bombs went off in London the hotel put up a big screen for the Brits to watch in the spacious lounge area. The eveing entertainment was a bit cheesy but after a few sangiras you went with the spirit of evening. The food was basic but well presented and fresh and as much as you could eat. We had a great week and really enjoyed it. Go with an open mind and don't let other reviews make you worry about the what ifs. You get what you pay for.
A very basic hotel
I should have written a review earlier, but waited for a response to my complaints. Direct Holidays gave me £100 back, but did not apologise for their terrible treatment of my booking. I had not booked at this hotel but was told at the last minute that I had been moved here. I went on holiday with two of my teenage children and found there was nothing for them to do. The sports facilities were in a diabolical state ( I have the photos to prove it ). The room was very dark , basic and in need of refurbishment. The only English channel on TV did not work! The food was very uninspiring and monotenous and often cold. I am glad I was only there for a week. The only good thing I found was that the staff were very pleasant. Simply, the hotel needs some money spent on it.
Hated Sol Barmoral
Just returned from the Hotel Sol Balmoral after booking it on the internet and being advised it was a great place to stay. This is a 3* hotel and yet we were told there was a tv in the room, not!! When booking I just wanted to confirm that there was because my young son likes to chill in the room and watch sport. The tv room in the hotel does not even have any English channels. The food was basic and the snack bar - well no comment. All the staff were miserable and over worked. The room itself, only had one plug socket and no mirrors. Not being vain, but if there were 3 or 4 adults, that would be a prob. Entertainment, don't ask. My 13yr old son commented that this place was a glorified Haven. Everything was crudely put together and the resort itself was just so boring.
shocking!!!
on the first night we arrived, we went out to a local bar to have a drink or 2. when we came back we found our room had been broken into!!! the safe (which contained most our money and travellers cheques) had been stolen. the safe was bolted to the wardrobe so was easily removed!! i expected it to be bolted to the floor not just a bit of mdf!!! we believe that the thief entered our room through the balcony patio doors as these were open when we came back but were left locked when we left. the patio doors were extremely poor condition and could easily have been forced open. as there was no sign of a break in, our insurance policy did not cover us!!!! the staff were extremely UNhelpful as was the airtours rep. the management were extremly rude and made it sound like it was our fault some how?!?!? this ruined our holiday and little was done to compensate us. i would not be suprised if the theif was one of the staff at the hotel!! this event could have been avoided if the safe was bolted to the floor and the room security was improved. i felt let down by all the staff there!! p.s. there was also a few cochroaches in our room!!!!!
Fantastic Holiday Cant wait to return.
Just returned on 8th Sept after 1 week at the Balmoral. This being our fifth time there in the last 3 yrs. The hotel staff are VERY friendly and helpful which made me woder if the guests who returned on 28th Aug 2004 had stayed in the same hotel. There was a pool attendant at the poolside all the time that the pool was open, who was also medicaly trained and came complete with a MASSIVE box of medical aids including plasters and Oxygen. And just 500 metres down the road there is a Medical centre as I dont believe that the all inclusive covers medical treatment. Our room was cleaned daily and the cleaning staff work very hard to make your holiday as enjoyable as poss. The same can be said for the Entertainment staff. They are there for at least 12 hours a day and I bet theydont get the best of wages on the island. Yes the 2 hotels opposite are nice hotels, but remember that every drink you get you will pay for too!. Also going by what I have just read it appears that people want a very cheap holiday with 5 star service. Well I dont think you can get that anywhere ,but at the Balmoral you do get value for the money you have paid and the majority of people I have met there have either been or will return again. There is only one small problem for next year, this being that Travel City Direct do not have the hotel. However you can book this hotel direct, and save some money by doing it this way. Many thanks to all the staff and management, and also Massimo, Maria, Marie, Beyia, and all the rest we enjoyed and we shall be back.
!!Outstanding!! Money well spent!! Loved every minute !!
Just got back already looking forward to next year. Gorgeous weather,Food was amazing lots of choice, different menus everyday .Staff here are brilliant, hotel is massive in and out, spotless too. not too crowded either just right. Great family shows every night from 7-11 . Beautiful blistering beaches,shopping/bar precinct nearby 5-15 min walk.Bus stop, cash machine ,newsagents just outside hotel. Buses are regular to all towns/villages which have regular markets plenty to see and buy. Western water park is a must if you have children like us,it is spectacular and is quite cheap, book through hotel its easier,Worth the Coach Trip. The only bad thing we should have booked 2 weeks instead of one.... Should be given 6 stars!!!!!!!!! In one word "Sol Balmoral" was "HEAVEN"
Lovely staff, beautiful weather
Stayed here for 13 days in August. Booked flights with BMI baby and accommodation direct with hotel saving about £600!! Solmelia. Self-catering had everying you need apart from air conditioning (ceiling fans) and cooker but had microwave and hob. Telly was good for Olympics! Bit shabby and dated but maids came in every day. Staff were fab - very friendly and helpful and entertainment team superb. Nice grounds, 4 pools, plenty to do but would recommend a visit to Caves of Drach (20 mins) and Palma Town if you have car. Also went to Western Water Park in Magaluf which was good but, despite what they say, there are height restrictions. Calas de Mallorca very geared up for English/Germans, would have preferred to have stayed somewhere a little more traditional but good value. Two small beaches about 15 mins walk away - beware of jelly fish. Cala D'or is gorgeous resort (20 mins by car). Two kids (10,5) and great time and we came back very relaxed.
hotel from hell
Just got back on 28th August 2004. Went with my husband and two children who are 6 and 11 years old. Felt very let down. Other people's reviews were wonderful, so thats what we expected. Thought hotel was a mess. It was dirty, smelly and old. The pools were only 3/4 's full of water. The rooms were small, dark and dirty. We never got room cleaned or a change of bed linen. Food in the restaurant was nice although on several occasions they was nothing suitable for small children. Also you better hold onto your plates if you haven't finished eating as the staff would take your plate. There hands would appear from no were and before you no it your plate was gone. The best thing about this hotel was its non stop entertainment. The animation team were 1st class and kept the kids entertained all day and most of the evening. The travel city reps, Sally and Kirsty, were extremely unhelpful, rude and sarcastis. They must be rejects from other holiday companies. What the holiday brochure didn't state was that the resort was on a cliff top and although 600 meters to the beach you had to walk down at least 200 steps to get to it! We didn't bother. We used to pool at the other 2 Sol Hotels opposite. Their pools were 1st class. It was all clean and welcoming and the views from the edge of the cliff was amazing. We would go there again but stay in one of the other 2 hotels. They were also both 3 star but more appealing and only halfboard. We rate our overall holiday as 8/10 but if those other hotels were not there then we would of tried to change resort to another hotel!!! My eldst son fell and cut his knee and hurt his foot at the hotel, I asked for a plaster but was told that there were non. The lady on reception even showed me the empty box. There was no 1st aider at all. We found out on our return that our son had fractured his big toe in 3 places!!! If all you want is a cheap holiday, eat and drink yourself silly and not bothered that the hotel is diry, old, dark and smells(the drains) then this would be the perfect place for you.
1st class
