" Don't believe the bad reviews - great hotel! "
Submitted By: cazandashThe hotel is a little dated as some reviews have said but like the rooms, is spotlessly clean. I am very suprised at the comments saying the staff are rude as they were all very friendly and helpful. The bar staff were great and were were very friendly which is amazing considering some of the rude customers to seemed to not know what manners were. The entertainments team were a great bunch of people who worked tirelessly all day doing sporting activities and then in the evenings doing shows etc. The drinks were served in plastic cups at the bar outside but who wants to have glass lying around with kids running round? We went in peak season and never waited more than 10 minutes for the bar and most of the time was served very quickly.
How anyone can critisize the food amazes me. The selection was brilliant with a wide range of salads, pasta and rice everyday as well as different fish and meats cooked in front of you - while we were there we had lamb chops, pork chops, sirloin steak and kebabs as well as salmon, trout, grouper and swordfish! There was also plenty for the kids to eat with pizza, chicken nuggets and chips. We were so full from all the meals that we never actually tried the snack bar.
The beach is accessed by some steep steps but once down there is lovely, the kids spent hours snokelling in the clear waters that were teaming with fish around the rocks. We also travelled around the island by the public buses that stop outside the hotel and are cheap, reliable and clean.
All in all we had a great time and would definately go back.
Advice: Very clean with great food!
Activities: Short bus trip to porto cristo and caves of drach - excellent
Good for: Beach
" disappointing "
Submitted By: sclisham(probably misspelt sorry!) i may not have felt quite as short changed. My family were given a very old self catering apartment in sol balmoral which was a bit odd as we had booked all inclusive however we just thought to continue as we were glad to have a fridge etc.. the balmoral is for our experience struggling to be a 2 star yet we had booked a 3 star holiday, I have travelled extensively and stayed in many all inclusive hotels and was rather taken aback by this particular place. There are many aspects of the resort 'namely mastines and chiwawau' that do deserve 3 star rating - sol balmoral however does not!We could only find sunbeds by an old disused pool bar with broken sunbeds and a 10 min walk from nearest bar! My partner was badly scratched by a broken chair that was left out despite being already broken, the pool had a ring of scum that made me wary. We had clean towels every day but the apartment was not cleaned once! We had to wear shoes to keep our feet clean by the end of the two weeks! Apparantly the catering is standard across the 3 hotels and when they say snack bar they mean the left overs from the main meals, ice cream is available if they feel like it! The restaurant service is fine but anything outside of that is beyond poor. The all inclusive drinks are available until 12.00 but only two at a time. The staff are miserable but seem to work 15 hour shifts so who can blame them? If u like all inclusive hols go to the carribean or somewhere like princess hotels where they know how to do all inclusive!
Advice: If u like all inclusive - dont go!
Activities: The beaches are fabulous
Good for: Beach
" NIGHTMARE! "
Submitted By: Ewan_WhatarmyAfter a death defying transfer delivered us to the resort we were ushered into a nice long steaming que. After seeing at least 5 people on the desk all my instinct told me that very soon id be enjoying a nice cold pinto of all inclusive lager… little did I know what the staff had in store for us.
(I really feel quite strongly about sharing my experience here so no one else or at least some one manages to get out of actually booking this place… you may need patience as the list is about as long as the que for drinks)
If waiting ¾ an hour tests your patience then be prepared to have it well and truly pushed. We were told (Not even politely may I add) to come back in ‘errrrrrm about an hour maybe’ as the room wasn’t ready. ‘Go get a drink’ was added some where in there. Any way, after having to re que for what seemed an eternity we were placed in our room.
The room:
Tiny
Outdated
Lights often never came on for no reason what so ever
Quite disturbingly… maids don’t knock on the door!! (Makes toilet visits nearve racking!!)
Balcony was covered in bird poo… or bat poo (Not been the greatest with animals it could have been any animal, definitely poo though!)
No air con… there is a fan on the roof that circulates the warm air around the room for you, but it sounds like an apache helicopter!
Toilet was dismantled by a service guy and just left in pieces (No idea why (No one tells you any thing))
I’m aware that some customers or inmates had a nice view but ours looked out onto the roof of the food court.
The Staff:
Receptionist staffs don’t enjoy speaking to the English and similarly seem to hate their job/life
The manager is five years old
Nothing gets done if you complain (The amount of complaints they were receiving was immense… this is why you wont check in quickly!)
Seem to think they can walk in your room at any point day/might with out knocking. Some just open the door then walk out (strange).
Bar staff seemed o.k but that’s it… o.k
The Food:
When I say I wouldn’t feed this food to our dog that is no understatement. I’m not a betting man but I would put money on the fact that the staff wouldn’t take the food home either!
Eating the food will more than definitely result in a dash to the toilet… (Back up to floor five and hope the maid don’t wonder in).
Fried eggs on sugary bread seemed the only humane option at breakfast with chips the only edible option at lunch and tea time. (I aren’t a picky eater at all… honest ill eat any thing)
Any way I am well aware this is just a review and should be much shorter… but I have to add this… YOU WILL BE AMAZED TO HERE… they shut the bloody hotel down around us! I couldn’t believe it when they put a small a4 sign up saying ‘the bar and restaurant is shut please go to hotel mastine’ Half the sun beds were chained up and the small army of wasps situated by the only available sun beds were miffed that we had decided to set up camp. Obviously we were slightly disappointed at having to make a five minute journey to get a tiny drink from the bar at another hotel and we decided to voice are opinions to the manager. After half an hour a fresh faced teen with a walkie talkie walked out from behind the reception and informed us (as it was our second to last day) ‘It is only one day of your holiday’ WE PAID FOR SEVEN!
BLOODY JOKE.. PLEASE PLEASE DON’T BOOK THIS HOTEL!

Advice: Brillaint

" Would probably go again :) "

Submitted By: tnhoare@btinternet.comFirstly, the beach they say is close by, is 150 steps a cliff top with rugged steps and once you are down, the beach is so small, you climb over people to get to the sea and if you want to sit on a lounger, they charge you ten Euros. In the blazing heat trying to climb back to the tops vi 150 steps is not good. The tour operator said the beach is accessible for wheel chair uses, that is if they were pushed off the cliff edge to get to the bottom.
If you fancy staying at the hotel, you have to be up and down by the pool at 7.30am to secure your beds and place your towels, any later they are gone. 3 hotels use the main hotels pool
The food is absolutely awful, we got food poisoning the second from last day. The snacks in between the main meals, is left over breakfast and left over lunch.
The kids club stinks of poo and our daugter got ill as a young toddler was in there, had a poo and managed to wipe it all over the toys, to which our daughter touched and ended up with serious diahrroa and illness.
The hotel is so old fashioned and ugly.
They serve 1/4 pints of lager in plastic cups. To get a pint you have to que up twice to get two plastic cups. The ques are 15 minutes long each time.
There is no air conditioning, only a fan, which makes a incredible noise so you can not sleep and you literally sweat during the night.
In th plug hole in the bath is a green slime, in which when you let the water out a smell of sewage erupts.
I was mis-sold a great holiday and ended up with a awful one and I wish I took notice of the reviews as I put my daughters lift at risk with the hygeine in this hotel and food. We complained but the staff was so rude and didn't give a F***.
Hope this helps when booking your holiday.
Regards
Advice: NEVER GO THERE IN YOUR LIFE

" our holiday "
Submitted By: truro lasstea time didnt start till 6 so if you went later you had no chance of seeing anything.plenty of sunbeds round the pool if you were prepared to be down by the pool to wait of them unchaing them.but plenty of other areas to put your beds, the pool was clean and busy from 9 onwards.
ther is no fron desk or anybody to help you ,you have to go to the chicuanas for that, but apart from that we had a good holiday ,and we would go back there.
Advice: nice shopping centre a good fun park with go carts crazy golf and elasticated trampoline
Activities: sinatras bar was good caves of drach
" standards droppingi "
Submitted By: paul the spurfirst plus points
staff very helpful rooms clean food quite good but a bit repetitive on a 2 week stay
we had booked the sol calas resort & had expected to stay in mastines or chinculla as we
were told when booking balmoral was closed for refurbishment.however when arriving we were allocated the balmoral.
now the bad points no reception at balmoral only 1 reception for 3 hotels the picnic facility for all inclusive guests has been removed this had been available on our previous visits over the last 5 years.the entertainment was the same basically on both weeks and it was consiladated for the 3 hotels in 1.as for any evidence of refurbishment
my wife &i could see no evidence of any improvement from our 1st visit in 2005.
the hotel has a television room which doubles as a smoking lounge and had i small screen
mostly showing spanish tv. the resort itself is very nice for a relaxing holiday there is
enough to do without being to busy .The walk from hotel to main beach along the coastline is very pleasent & the small beach is very clean.
overall if you have never been before you will probably have a good time but if you have
previously visited the hotel like ourselves i am afraid you may be disapointed
p/s the entertainment team work very hard but as with everything else compared with previous visits are spread to thin between the 3 hotels
Advice: quiet resort
Activities: good indian restarunt in resort

" GOOD TIMES "
Submitted By: pooly34The "resort" consists of 3 hotels: the Mastines, Balmoral and Chihuahua’s, we were lucky enough to be checked into the Chihuahua’s and we all had magnificent sea view rooms - the rooms are large and comfortable and were cleaned daily with fresh towels.
The resort boasts 5 swimming pools ( 1 indoors ) the largest of which is at the Chihuahua’s all very well maintained and have plenty of beds available guests can use any of the pools and the bars within the resort, drinks are of good quality and probably the best we have had from over 12 all inc holidays although the hotels have a strict 2 drinks per person each time at bar policy which is a bit of a drag and the main bar in the Chihuahuas’ had horrendous queues at peak times.
The breakfast was brilliant if you like eggs - fried, boiled, scrambled and omelettes but the bacon was inedible and the sausage not to good but you won’t starve, the lunch and dinner time food was very very good - a great choice of food and desserts - soup was lovely - help ourselves to wines beer and soft drinks.
Entertainment team are superb, the daytime activities are plenty and varied as were the shows.
The resort of calas is a short stroll away and has plenty of shops bars and restaurants - prices are quite expensive and have increased a lot since we were last in mallorca - around 3 euro's for a beer ( nice guinness in irish bar ) and 12-16 euros for a good meal. Chinese restaurant was good value as the youger members of our party went more than once.
Beaches are small but picturesque near the hotels with limited watersports -pedaloes - canoes etc and you can get a trip on glass bottom boat,
Porto Cristo which only cost a couple of euros on the bus is beautiful - nice day out not too far away with great beach and setting.
To sum up we had a great holiday and it exceeded our expectations, the only faults we could find were the queues and that the bacon/sausage at breakfast.
We would all definitely return to the hotel as on balance it was a great place we all had a great time and it is excellent value.

" It was amazing "
Submitted By: Holiday chicWe knew it was 3 star and as long as it was clean that is all we were bothered about. We need not have worried.
Hotel, bedroom, food, amenities, drinks and surrounding area - absolutely fantastic. Anyone whos says it is not, go and pay for a 5 star.
As hotel workers ourselves we have to put up with the odd complaint, most of which are totally unfounded and come from people who just like to complain wherever they go.
The staff at the Sol Balmoral were lovely. All of them. So you had to queue for they odd drink. So why the hurry. Chill out your on holiday.
We loved it so much we have booked to go again this September.
Ignore any negative comments. Book with confidence. Enjoy
