Jul 2008, Mr R HALTON

Just got back form one week from the Sol Balmoral with my Mrs we are both mid 20's.
I was very happy with the hotel, clean, tidy and well mentained!!! room did the job, plenty big enough with great balcony view!!! shower powerfull and just what u needed after a baking day in the sun!!!!
Food was spot on, wide range, noone will go hungry!!!! even though watch the sauguages!!!
majority of staff are happy, but understand the ones which are not as they seem to do 20 hr shiffs. they work their butts off, fair play.
entertainment gets a 7 out of 10 , more aimed for the younger kids. but as all in i didnt mind watching it as the drinks poured in.
The resort is not that big and not that busy, i found it just right for couples, families and a small couple groups but would not recommend it to large parties i.e stag does.
there are quite a few bars in the main centre bit, with loads of shops, crazy golf, stalls, games, arcades, which is just 10-15 mins walk from the hotel.
beach again 10 15 mins away well the main one is, the little one is infront of the hotel but down a few steps takes about 5-10 mins depending how fit u are.
anyway enough said i think, would recommend to go to this place, we had a very relaxing hot holiday, met loads of nice people and met some really good friends.
so enjoy if u go here!!! we certainly did.

Just returned from a weeks stay at...
10 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss J Caldwell

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Sol Balmoral....and it was great!! I am not sure why some people have given such bad reviews as we have nothing bad to say about this hotel at all!!
Hotel was spotless, pool was lovely, food was fab (and we are both fussy eaters!!) and great times, so you were not rushing around to make sure you got in for a table etc. Entertainment was basic but fun!! Loads of space for sunbathing. Sometime queue's for drinks, but they go down really quickly! Rooms were comfortable, shame no aircon, but fans were fine and I often woke up chilly and had to get under covers!
Callas de Mallorca is a lovely resort. Was quiet when we went, but get the impression that this is only because of the credit crunch in the UK and the fact that the pound is so weak! Resort would prob not suit teenagers as they may get bored, but good for couples, families with younger children etc!! Loads of bars etc a short walk from hotel if you fancy a change of scenery....look at bar windows for drink offers as one place will sell buy one get one free drinks at one price and the bar next door will have the exact same offer for a couple of euros cheaper!! Oh and we really recommend the Crazy Golf in the town square...so much fun!!
Beach is stunning, with beautiful crystal clear blue water and sandy beach....very clean! A bit of a walk from hotel (about 10/15 mins), but well worth a visit!!
If you fancy a trip out of resort, buses run to time (in our experience anyway) and are not that expensive!!
We will be returning to Callas de Mallorca and will stay at the Sol Balmoral again if it is available.
Do not listen to the bad reviews (we were and put off booking so many places....I am glad we gave this one a chance!), is very good value for money....and like many others have said in their reviews....if you want a 5* hotel, pay 5* prices.....but if you want a bargin break this hotel is a good choice!!

Just back from 2 weeks at the Sol...

Jul 2008, Mrs J Heron

Just back from 2 weeks at the Sol Balmoral with my husband and 2 daughters (2 and nearly 4). Like others I was worried about the bad reviews but have to say we had a great holiday. All of the staff were pleasant, the nicest I've known, the hotel was very clean, maid service every day, the pools were a bit cold but fab, able to get sun loungers no problem.
I agree the kids club for under 5s was poor but our kids love the pool anyway and we took stuff to amuse them anyway, don't most parents? Queues not at all bad for drinks, they opened 3 'kiosks' when it was really busy, you can't ask for much more. I can see that there would be bigger queues at the bar and for food during the school holidays, but everywhere is busier during school holidays, England included. I wouldn't describe the rooms as spacious but we weren't in there much anyway.
We were lucky and had great weather but I can imagine having poor weather would put a dampner on any holiday. We came prepared though and had stuff to amuse the kids. Entertainment staff were good and worked very hard, a couple of minor negative points that they didn't really seem interested in under 5s and one or two seemed to make groups of friends within the hotle guests and stick with them a bit. Overall we had a great time, the kids LOVED the mini disco - yes it was the same songs most nights but that's what little kids like.
Would definitely recommend the Sol Balmoral and would go again. The resort is quiet with not much to do but it suited us fine.

Jun 2008, Mr M Briggs (Rambo)

We stayed at the Balmoral for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time. No queing at the bar or in the restaurant. Plenty of daytime activies - football, water polo, darts, gladiators, shooting, archery etc - which were all fantastic. Kids club was brill. Two outdoor pools really clean. Plenty of sun loungers. Weather wasn't great but didn't spoil the holiday. Night time entertainment was absolutely fab for both kids and adults. Met loads of really nice people. Entertainment staff were great. Hotel was really clean.
Overall really great holiday, would highly recommend to anyone. Definately going back next year.

Jun 2008, Mrs K B Hurst

we stayed in this hotel in may and to say it was bad would be kind
i have been reading some of the later reports giving it 10/10
i am so pleased that the people who gave it that score had a great time but mrs j k Rowling to say that " please do not listen to fussy people who rate this hotel bad, most of them are just moaners!!! " as you were not there when we were please do not assume the type of people who were staying in the hotel,
you cant tell us that 10 out of 12 reports that were bad were all down to moaners i am sorry i think you are easily pleased or that the hotel has got its act more together.at this moment in time i am not so sure
even some of the people who have given it 10 out of 10 still had complaints
i know we did not pay 5* prices we did not expect 5* quality sadly we did not even recieve a 2* service
when we were there i know of a couple who cut their holiday short and flew home and another couple who were booking in just turned around and walked out got in a taxi and booked in a hotel in palma
reading some of the other reports what is this bingo large screen tv no queue at the bar evening entertainment we had none of this
i dont want to go on about how bad our holiday was if you do want to know please look at mr k hurst's report

Jun 2008, Mrs JK Rowling

This hotel was Brilliant, could not fault a thing, people who rate this hotel bad should maybe book in for a 5* instead of 3. Food was brilliant huge selection and different everyday. Entertainment on night was Ok although never stayed in hotel much as plenty of pubs down road. Club down road 2 for 1 on all drinks, seating outside and entertainment for adults and inside small club (espeicially for teens) was great cus cud enjoy myself and still no where my lot were. Although beach a walk away, nice little lanes to walk through giving a good view of Sea.
If you are booked in to go here please do not worry!! Rooms are spacious and VERYY clean. I recommened this hotel for anyone who is looking for a fun and adventurous, or just quiet and relaxing holiday with plenty of sun. And please do not listen to fussy people who rate this hotel bad, most of them are just moaners!!!

I have just returned from Sol...

Jun 2008, Ms N Barnes

I have just returned from Sol Balmoral after a fortnight's holiday with my partner and my two year old daughter.
I was very unsure wether or not I would like this hotel after reading some of the previous reviews.
Well the hotel was fantastic, the cleanest hotel I have stayed in fresh towels daily, room cleaned and beds made daily. Just one complaint the beds were uncomfortable.
Food was quite repetetive a lot of pork but was always well cooked well presented and there was always something for you to eat.
The pools were lovely and there were plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas.
No queing at anytime at the bar or in the restaurant. Staff always helpful and reasonably friendly.
Entertainment for the kids was fantastic my daughter really loved the mini disco. The adult entertainment was ok lots of bingo (which is good for me) although the professional shows were all pretty similar. The entertainment staff worked really hard and were very friendly I enjoyed the shows they performed the best and quiz night was great fun.
I have been to Calas de Mallorca before this time 4 years ago and I do not think it has got any better the shops are all repetetive and sell the same stuff. So if the weather is bad Calas De Mallorca is not the place to be it is too small.
The beach was beautiful although there were lots of jelly fish.
We will be coming again next year probably a bit later in the year as the weather was terrible 4 days of sunshine from a fortnight it was cold and cloudy the rest of the fortnight.
But we had a good time all the same.

We probably couldn't have chosen a...

Jun 2008, Mrs E Pagan

We probably couldn't have chosen a worse time than the first week of 'the season 2008', to visit Majorca, just because the weather was so bad! Having never been to Majorca before, myself, my husband & our boys aged 2 & 10, took my parents for their first time abroad. My newleywed sister & her husband (without children so far!) also joined us. Bearing in mind this was the first week the hotel had been open in 2008, the Sol Balmoral was pretty busy and had a really good atmosphere. Unfortunately, the weather turned sour after two days and the rain did not stop for the rest of our holiday. (Which is probably the main reason for the majority of the bad May reviews on here!) I wasn't actually going to leave a review but as this website proved to be helpful to me when booking the holiday - I really think I should.
We arrived at the hotel with only about half an hour until the end of dinner service, and after travelling through the afternoon, were really pleased have a quick check in, change, and be down in time for an evening meal. The entertainment was fantastic for the kids, which - at the end of the day - was what we were there for. And even though it did rain most of the week, we took full advantage of the sister hotels indoor pool, and also took a bus to cala millor for the extensive shopping.
The staff were great, Marie-Angel the waitress especially, always had more than enough time to make a fuss of us. The all-inclusive food was always plentiful and, yes, I agree, pork & fish seemed to be very frequent, but for the price we paid? We could not have eaten out and paid less than twice the price of the whole holiday.
Overall, the Sol Balmoral was clean, the food was great & the entertainment for the children was really good. If you want more from a holiday than you are willing to pay, then the Sol Balmoral is not for you. But if you want a cheap & chearful holiday with the kids in Majorca (preferably in the sun!), then this is the place for you. HAPPY HOLIDAYS:)

Jun 2008, Mrs K Leigh

I was dreading going to this hotel after reading the reviews, even considered booking into a different one. Thank goodness I did'nt. Yes the Hotel does need some modernisation but it is one of the cleanist hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in 5 stars. The food was always lovely never once was it cold the choice was really good. Not once did we queue for drinks and the staff go out of there way to be pleasant for you so those that gave really bad reviews I just cant understand it's as though you stayed at a different hotel.

Myself, partner and 8 month old...
10 / 10
Jun 2008, Miss T. Hynd

Myself, partner and 8 month old daughter stayed at the balmoral in the first week of june and had a lovely time.
Upon arrival, a baby cot was brought to our room at no extra cost. The are no tv's in the rooms but we just about managed to get by without Sky news for a week!!
The food was lovely, catering to both my tastes (salad, fish, fresh fruit and cocktails) and my partners (chips, stodge, meat and burgers). With the chef cooking the meat and fish in the dining room. Its true the staff didn't smile all the time but many were on duty every day working 13hr shifts with only Sundays off. They did the job required. We never had more than 5 people in front of us at the bar. Be sure to ask for cocktails and shots! many people didn't realise these were available.
The weather wasn't great, which for us was the only downpoint but we were informed the weather for the past 5 weeks had been the worst on record for over 8 years.
There is a lovely clean beach 15 minutes walk away (past the shops at the end of the main strip) in which you can walk out in to (for about a 1/4 of a mile) with the water no more than waist deep!
The entertainment staff were fantastic, playing water polo, water gladiators, football and many other daytime games aimed mainly at adults and teenagers. There were also 2 childrens clubs everyday. Because we had the baby with us we were only able to watch the hotel entertainment which started at 10pm after the kiddies disco at 8.30. We must admit we were definatly impressed with the level of proffesionalism of the staff, great costumes, energetic and funny. The caberet show is not to be missed. There was also a large screen on which the football games were shown. And a seperate room screened off for smokers with a tv in to watch the soaps.
We were informed there were a number of nightclubs in the main strip which were quite good.
It is a very family orientated hotel and we were very impressed, especially after reading the reviews for May 08. Not sure if we were all at the same hotel !!!
Definately worth a visit.
