Relaxing
from A TripAdvisor Member
I've been here each year since 2003. Breakfast & lunch buffet very good. Dinner leaves a less-than-full feeling, but quality reasonable. Room cleaning etc excellent. The pool area is well maintained and hosed every morning. The beach is a public beach and the town council is responsible for cleaning. It has some of the advantages of a private beach because it is difficult for people not staying in the hotel to access. The hotel is not over-run by hordes of noisy children and is a good place to unwind & do nothing.
A wonderful hotel

We loved Los Fariones! The large room had a perfect view and it was a nice surprise to get a welcome from the hotel (a bottle of wine and fresh fruit )The food was superb and the location is great with it´s own private beach. The guests are mostly 60+ så I think it is a problem if you have teenagers with you. Perfect for small children I think
Retirement Village in the Sun

Stayed here for 1 week last September. I travelled with my wife and two children aged 1 and 3. We arrived at the hotel at 11:30pm, it was like a morgue. We checked in at reception and were given our room keys, given the fact that we had 2 kids and a mountain of Luggage I was expecting some help with the luggage to the room, this was not to happen. I was told that we would have to make our own way as the night porter finished at 11pm. When we got to the room we discovered no cot (despite having specifically requesting a cot given we had a 1 year old baby). 1 hour later we were brought a cot, I wouldnt have put a dog to sleep in the stained dirty travel cot we were given. My wife requested a proper cot and was told that we would have to wait until morning. Rooms are average could do with modernisation. If you have young kids do not stay here, there is no entertainment and average age of guests is about 65. Sometimes it felt like you were in a library and could not make any noise which is impossible with two young kids We had an evening meal in the restaurant on one occasion, food was below average. I would recommend having Breakfast and Lunch, avoiding dinner. Plenty of good restaurants in old town. Private Beach was ok, could be cleaned more often though and was littered with cigarette butts. I found staff to be ok, apart from the Bar staff, they were neither friendly or polite. It was like they were doing you a favour when you asked them for a drink (once you got there attention) I would not stay here again, is is over priced and overrated.
Great Location, Bad Food
from Astienvoyage
We staid for a week. The location is great, very central, but still quiet, so you won't be kept up by the noisy hordes returning home after a night out. Our room had a perfect sea view, like I think most rooms in the property. The facilities are beautifully kept, with two swimmingpools and a private beach all set in a volcanic landscape. Truly Stunning! The only real downer is the food... The breakfast is fine, but the dinner is not one bit appropriate for the standard of the hotel. It would suprise me, if you find yourself dining there to often as the standard is well below anything else you will get on the island (and that includes the tourist restaurants). So the price you get quoted for halfboard is really a Bed and Breakfast price... just something to be aware of.
Best Ever Hotel

We have just returned from a week's stay at the los fariones hotel and my wife and I both agree this is a real top class hotel. we have both stayed in great hotels all around europe and vote this up there with the best, great clean spacious rooms with a maid service cleaning your room and changing your towels twice every day, food was great and choice was plentiful location perfect, surrounding gardens leading to private cove on the beach, attention to detail is fantastic, while we were there it was my wife's birthday and she was sent a bottle of wine with the most delicious and beautiful birthday cake, on arrival the room has a free bottle of wine and full basket of fruit which is also a nice touch of a TOP CLASS HOTEL...
Great hotel - pity about some of the staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a Christmas / New Year holiday at Los Fariones. Hotel location is great but the food left a lot to be desired and certain of the older bar and restuarant staff need lessons in attitude. One waiter in the restaurant permanently had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp whilst some of the bar staff made it plain that it was an effort to even serve you - let alone smile at you. This was inspite of tipping well! On the positive side, the younger staff where very good and very friendly. The room cleanliness was spot on and the bar itself was not expensive. Would we go back? - probably in a few years when the older staff have retired!
A great hotel experience
from Tripstaker
I have stayed in many hotels in many locations but Los Fariones would be top of my list for quality of service and the beauty of its location. The staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with good quality fittings. We appreciated the bottle of wine and the large basket of fruit provided as a welcome on arrival. Creature comforts in terms of robes and slippers were also welcome extras. The maid service was good and a very generous supply of toiletries was maintained throughout our stay. A turn down service every evening with its complimentary chocolates and replenishment of toiletries was also a nice touch. The wake up calls provided by reception were always punctual and friendly. The breakfast buffet was lavish and the added touch of champagne and caviar on offer daily gave it a luxury flourish. There really was something to suit all tastes with a vast range of cereals, a great assortment of delicious fresh breads, then cold meats, cheeses and fruit, or cooked breakfasts from the buffet or freshly prepared at the grill. The lunchtime buffet was as wide ranging and appealing and the food never had the tired appearance and texture that hotel buffets sometimes suffer from. The dinner menus in the evening were always interesting and never repetitive. There was a good choice over four courses on the menu and wine was very reasonably priced. The waiter service was fast, friendly and efficient and standards of presentation in the dining room were very high. Linen was always changed at every table after every serving. The half board basis of our stay was flexible for buffet lunch or dinner, and the latter didn't have to be booked in advance. For anyone looking for a relaxing holiday the Fariones has a real air of style and tranquility. This is very welcome as the resort behind it is disappointingly downmarket and tacky with its bad souvenir shops, sports bars, Irish pubs and seemingly endless Chinese restaurants. I agree with the reviewer who said this hotel is a world apart from the rest of Puerto del Carmen. It would be exceptional anyway in its own right, but in this setting it provides a very much needed oasis of calm, comfort and civility in what is basically a very 'chav' resort.
Good Choice

We arrived for 2 weeks stay at the Hotel Fariones on 15/09/05. The first thing I noticed there was no air conditioning in the bedrooms although large free standing fans were provided the rooms never got overly warm. There was no fridge but when I asked at reception a full size fridge was provided on the balcony at no extra charge. The rooms were standard 4 star rooms nothing plush but spotlessly clean and at no point did I ever see even an ant on the floor. Lovely pool area and also sunbathing areas on other different levels plus a private beach. Located between the old and new town of Puerto del Carmen with loads of entertainment. Found a shortcut through a residential area outside the hotel to go to the Marina area in the old town at night where there were good bars and restaurants. The hotel is not suitable for kids as there is nothing for them and there were only 3 during our stay. Most of the residents were 60+ we were the exception !! Entertainment was low key we always went out as there was loads of entertainment nearby. Every other bar is an Irish bar but the craic was good in many of them and any banter was good natured we had no feeling of insecurity in the area. We hired a car for 3 days which was enough and went all over the island which was lovely. Evening meals were waiter service which was fairly quick service and the menu was interesting some nights but overall the food was good and made a nice change to be waited on. If I ever went back to the area I would stay in the same hotel as it is very good and in an excellent position. You really feel when you are living in the hotel you feel in a little world of your own where the rest of the resort cannot enter, that sounds funny but when you go you'll know what I mean. Loved it and would highly recommend it.
delusions of granduer-must have been a different hotel
from Carola1
The writer of the 'Delusions of Granduer' review must have gone to a different hotel than the Hotel los Fariones, PDC, Lanzarote. This hotel is reasonably priced for its rating with a real ability to make guests feel special. The rooms are comfortabe, spotless and well maintained. The balcony views are second to none. Staff are courtious, helpful and attentive. We have absolutley nothing but praise for this excellent hotel. Testimony to this is that we have booked again for next July.
Delusions of grandeur
from lanzarotelover
We booked our holiday at this hotel on the basis of the very favourable reviews on this site. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. We found most of the staff to be at best surly and indifferent and the food served at dinner on our first night was absolutely inedible. The choice of menu was extremely limited and we chose what we thought were the best of a bad bunch of options. However the "white fish" bore more than a passing resemblance to a well-known brand of boil-in-the-bag cod, but was considerably less appetising, and the chicken drumstick main course appeared to have been frozen and reheated, a real tough old bird! By the time I got to the dessert I felt so sick I couldn't eat it. We are not fussy eaters but the meal was truly nauseating! If I had been one of the restaurant staff I would have been embarrassed to serve it up. We spoke to other guests who said that lunch was usually better so we tried that the next day. It was a buffet and although the standard was not high and the choice more or less the same every day, it was at least edible. In addition, although we knew before we went where the hotel was, its location at the far end of the Avenida de las Playas means that walking into town in the evening is not particularly pleasant unless you enjoy being accosted by touts asking you to go into their bar or club, even when you are accompanied by a child as we were. On the positive side, the buffet breakfast is very good and the beachfront location is fantastic with gorgeous views. You can have breakfast and lunch on an outside terrace. Our room was very spacious and the large balcony was a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine in the evening. It was also lovely to go to sleep and wake up to the sound of the sea. The bathroom was a good size with bathrobes, slippers and a selection of toiletries. The pool is a pleasant temperature although by the late afternoon it starts to get a bit murky with sun lotion and sand. Unfortunately during our stay it was largely monopolised by a group of pre-teens jumping in and generally being hugely irritating. In a brochure in the room there were all sorts of supposed "house rules", none of which were enforced - no reserving sun loungers, no diving into the pool, no hanging stuff over the balcony, no excessive noise between 11 pm and 8 am. It also said sheets would be changed every two days, although our sheets were only changed once during our 7 night stay. There is a courtesy room to use on the day of departure if you want to shower and change. All in all this is a relatively expensive hotel which thinks it is something more special than it is. This was our fourth visit to Lanzarote and this accommodation was by far the most disappointing. We will definitely not be back to Los Fariones but we are looking forward to another trip to Lanzarote in the future.
