Hotel Description:

Bellevarde Lodge is an imposing assembly of six stone and timber chalets situated on the Santons piste just a few hundred metres from the Solaise cable car. " VIP pride themselves on their... "

VIP pride themselves on their attention to detail and high level of service and in the past that has been the case; not this year though, just a load of promises undelivered.

The main gripe was the catering which is a huge part of a ski holiday in a catered chalet and can make or break a holiday as it did this year.

The so called hosts at this chalet had very little experience at fine dining and as such found it difficult to second guess the expectations of the guests who do. Every meal was let down with something, be it the cold soup or the overcooked this or undercooked that all, badly presented with pathetic portion control. The hosts cooked in the same clothes as they cleaned the toilets in earlier in the day and scratched their armpits and other parts of the body(!)as they merrily went about their culinary duties.

Breakfast was a very poor way to start the day, every day the bread was stale and toasted to death. we never were asked what we wanted; everything had to be demanded which was so tedious and made us feel like we were putting them out all the time. I even had to teach them how to make porridge!

The smoke alarm was hanging off the ceiling with no battery for 6 days before it was replaced.

Two nights running we had cold showers when we came back down from the days skiing.

The DVD on the coach transfer is in black and white" as it's an English DVD on a French system" No effort to work around that one; a month later they are still showing it I hear.

I did complain when I came home, a month later I received a very apologetic letter and a nice hamper which contained rabbit pate and smoked salmon but as a vegetarian, which they new, as I have been with the company before and I wrote to the CEO about the vegetarian food I endured all week, I thought it just added insult to injury.

I did ask the CEO why he sent rabbit pate to a vegetarian but he didn't have an answer.

I would have much preferred a refund of some of the cost of the holiday. I was offered £50 off my next booking! They should be so lucky.

I went with a party of 6 people this year, next year it will be a far larger party which I will take with me to another company. Any recommendations gratefully received!
