Comments:  just got back from Tunisia and what can i say!
I was there 4years ago on my honeymoon and we loved the place. As for this time it was pure hell. The Hotel Kanta is the worst Hotel we have ever been to. It was like being in a prison camp (i joke not). The room was a disgrace the green carpet that went half way up the wall wasnt exactly green. There was a burnt iron mark in the middle of the floor and the side of the bed was all thorn (have photos to prove) the bed sheets were not clean and smelt of B.O. The staff were not at all polite and the food was dredful after 4 dinners in the Kanta we decided to eat out insted (not much better). As for the hotel entertainment what can i say except it was C**P. The hotel security sat in a hut at the gate takeing bottels of water and other drinks off any one who didnt buy them in the hotle, makeing sure to serch the bags of any woman on her own. The shops were always trying to short change you when not trying to con you.The TAXI drivers were the same they would drop you off and tell the locals what hotel you came from, who would then pose as a waiter from your hotel and try to bring you off to all the best shops. After the first week my wife and 10 year old son just had enough and wanted to go home,I cant understand how sleezy the place has gone in 4years and will never ever go back or tell anyone else to go to TUNISIA.

Comments:  We are just after returning from Tunisia from Hotel Kanta and are very disappointed with the holiday. Firstly, we had money stolen from our room, and were completely ignored by management when trying to report this. Basically they said that we cannot prove this anyway and it was not of any interest. They said that Kantas reputation is good enough and they don't care!!! So if you decide on this hotel, safe deposit box is a must and additionally keep track of you money as they take part of the whole sum to make it less suspicious. What pushed us over the limit though is that after this incident my partner was asked to leave (kicked out) of the restaurant and plate was grabbed from his hand because he wasn't wearing long trousers...when indeed he wasn't the only one and it never made a difference beforehand. Management said it was OK for us to eat so all the staff in the restaurant had a great laugh afterwards and we felt like in a circus. How rude and humiliating!!!! We asked to be transferred from the hotel and still find it
very difficult to imagine that people actually rate their holidays with Kanta so high as the rooms are like prisons, staff very pushy and rude and the food so horrible that I actually found myself missing McDonalds.

I think not only Kanta which is a European 3 star max, but Tunisia and its people who try to rip you off wherever they can and find it quite amusing as well, have a lot to learn if they want tourists to be coming back to this country. For us Tunisia was definitely the first and last at the same time.

Comments:  We are a family of 4, 2 adults with 2 children and just returned from a weeks holiday staying at Hotel Kanta.

The staff could not be more helpful and friendly in all parts of the hotel. Even though our board was self-catering we stayed in the hotel on two occasions for our evening meal and was thoroughly impressed with the service. With having 2 young children the only gripe we had was keeping the children occupied around the pool area there was no poolside entertainment whether this was because we arrived early season or what not sure.....................

The rooms were spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We used the Wellness Centre on two occasions once for a massage and also a pedicure the staff spoke very good english and made you feel at ease and the treatment was extremely well priced!

We frequently used the restaurants in the fountain area L'Opera was great value for breakfast for 4 of us costing just under a tenner. The Port also offers some excellent restaurants food and service is exceptional we did not have one meal where we complained.

Be aware though they spot English a mile away and you will get pestered to 'Come and eat in my restaurant' or 'Come and look in my shop good bargains and cheaper than Primark!' you cannot blame them for trying this is a third world country at the end of the day.

This was our second time in Tunisia and we cannot complain, Tunisians are the friendliest people you could meet they love the english and they are really interested in the english culture.

We spent a relaxing 7 days at a comfortable hotel in a lovely part of the world its just the tonic you need...................................

Comments:  We checked in Mar 19 and the reception staff were friendly. All the staff greet you warmly. So that was good...
But that all changed when we entered our room. At first glance we saw a horrible green carpet which went half way up the walls. The air conditioning unit is broken, the TV works, barely, the remote control to the TV only changes volume and all the colours on the TV are inverted.
The food is terrible and tasted like plastic.
I Do not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

Comments:  My girlfriend and i stayed at the Kanta hotel which i was quite impressed with. The hotel was rated a 4 star but visitors should expect a 3 star in relation to european standards. The hotel is very well maintained if a bit dated interior wise, rooms are very spacious and clean with a balcony.

Hotel staff are very friendly especially the bar staff who were a pleasure to chat to and quite informative about the local area. Drinks are very cheap but dont expect a pint of your favourite beer as only local beer is served.

Food in the hotel is nice and fresh but dont expect 4 star meals. Half board can choose to have breakfast and dinner or lunch and dinner. Dinner is usually a buffet and you will leave with your belly full, the food is for example, pasta, chicken dishes, chips ect.

We found a small tip goes a long way as the staff earn a very small amount of money in wages and really appreciate it. Its the same everywhere in my opinion "be polite to the staff and they will return the favour".

The resort was clean and tidy with large outdoor pools and a small heated indoor pool. A health centre offering massages, sauna and gym are all on site as well as tennis courts, table tennis and a poolside cafe. Entertainment is the hotel's downfall as we found it very limited in variety.

The local towns in my opinon are very busy and the locals will drive you mad at times trying to sell you items and get you into shops. A word of warning, you will get hassled, stressed and angry when you visit towns like Sousse as the financial advantages of tourisim have left them behind, the resort is like another world compared to them.

Taxi's are cheap but always tell the driver to turn on the meter when you get in or he will make up a price for the fare which will be more expensive. The taxi's are old dated cars and the car we travelled in had no seatbealts. Never attempt to rent a car as the roads and driving trends have to be seen to be believed!!

In conclusion we had a great holiday the entertainment in the hotel is limited and i would not recomend this hotel for children. Couples and famlies can expect a relaxing break at hotel kanta.

Thanks for reading and i hope this has been informative, enjoy your holiday.

Comments:  Kanta hotel is fab!
Staff couln't be more friendlier.
Rooms are nice and spacious. New superior rooms have just been built with views overlooking the town or sea which are very nice.
Food is gorgeous. (Nice and helathy and home grown/fresh)
The resort is picturesque and the marina is pleasant. (just opposite the hotel)
Tunisian people are so friendly and you can have a good laugh with them bartering in the shops!
There are other hotels around the Kanta which allow you to go in and have a nice drink and theres some entertainment on of a night.
The Golf course is near by and also good shops to walk to. A little zoo is next to the marina were you can go and feed some camels and that.
Good holiday for any age really, familys and pensioners.
By going in January it was just right as it was not too hot or too busy.

Definitely going back a.s.a.p

Comments:  This was one of the most enjoyable holidays I've been on - the hotel is lovely. The rooms are large and clean. In terms of style, i.e. carpeted platform on which the bed stands, still not a European/American 4 star, but other than that a very welcoming hotel, good bar, sometimes with live piano music. The food is very good, especially for a place like Tunisia where it can often be hit and miss. We especially enjoyed a la carte nights and luches when you select out of three dishes (that's included in the half-board). Buffets were a bit lower quality, but still very-very reasonable. You have to pay for the wine/water on top of your half-board, only tea/coffee at breakfast is included. There is a pub in the hotel, the only one of its kind in the resort. Beach is very close and so is the harbour. You have to keep in mind that the resort is very small, so there isn't a whole lot to do - it's a place to have a quiet holiday. Sousse is 20 minutes by taxi, but we found it not so great - quite dirty and even in the market there was more 'global tat' than Tunisian crafts. The best place to go for these crafts is the fixed-price government-run big shop just by the market. Main goods to buy are leather and ceramics. Beware the weather in October - we had three thunderstorms in our 10-day period and by 4pm it clouded over and rained on several occasions, so beach time is reduced.
But still lovely place and a very good hotel to spend some quiet quality time with your family.

Comments:  H/B for two weeks at Hotel Kanta. Couple aged 22+23.

When arrived we were giving drinks whilst sorting out our paperwork. The staff were all very friendly.

Our room was big, as we were half board we had a mini bar in the room there also was a TV. Rooms were cleaned every day.

The food was amazing as we had half board you had breakfast and could choose either lunch or dinner, there food had no fault there was a lot to choose from breakfast to dinner, we decided to not have lunch and just eat by the pool.

The resort itself was always clean; there was two pools to choose from. It’s the best location to be in at port el Kantaoui as your near the shops, restaurants and harbour.

The beach is just about 2 minute walk. The weather was hot for October, didn’t need to wear a jumper anyway.

Great for a relaxing holiday, was very well enjoyed and be going back again.

Comments:  went to the kanta for two weeks, as we were self catering we were in a block away from the main hotel but had the use of everything in the hotel , the pools were a bit crowded for us so we tended to go to the beach on the free bus , about five minutes away the staff were all very pleasant and would have a laugh with you , we walked down to the marina most nights as loads of different places to eat,not to much hassle with the shops if you said no thanks the were quite happy the holiday was great but being a very fussy eater had problems with the food in tunisia every thing tasted of grease so lived on eggs and biscuits but that was tunisia as a whole not the hotel as people who stayed there said it was very good there, maybe if we go back to tunisia then we would go half board, the only thing we found with a down side there wasnt any trips being advertised, as we were a couple on our own we would have got a little bored if we hadnt met a lovely couple who we had a lot to do with not much entertainment i know it sounds like we didnt enjoy it but we did ,very much but if you want a lively holiday this is not the place to go

Comments:  The Kanta hotel lives up to all the good reviews previously entered on this website. The staff without exception were all friendly, and the service was wonderful.

The room was spotless on arrival, and kept clean every day. The vegetarian food was varied and delicious, and the service in the restaurant was efficient and very friendly.

The swimming pools were clean, as were all the surrounding sunbeds and gardens.

We will definitely return one day!

Comments:  This was a fantastic hotel, the people were so welcoming and I will definitely go back.

The whole area was fab and the views from our balcony were stunning. We had a lovely cleaner who came everyday and she left the towels made up as swans - they were lovely. The pools were really nice and you always got a bed. The pool guards made sure they helped in every way.

The marina was nice and those big boats were stunning. All I can say it was fab, the weather, great food – all just so nice!

Comments:  Just returned from a lovely holiday at the Kanta hotel wonderful place. It was rated 4 star, although in my opinion should have been 2 plus as the accommodation let them down.

Rooms are very basic but quite roomy, and needed up dating to say the least.

The food was superb well done chefs, they catered for everyone of different nationalities and plenty of it.

It was spotlessly clean at every inch of the place and the maid we had was very very nice and also honest. I dropped my purse in the bin accidently with quite a lot of English money inside, we went off for the day and when we came back she was waiting for me with my purse and all contents intact ,my sincere thanks to her.

Will look forward to another holiday there, when I hope they bring the accommodation up to date, and install hairdryers and tea making facilities.

Well done to all staff who work so hard and go out of their way to make your holiday enjoyable, thanks each and every one of you.

Comments:  Resort:
The resort was beautiful and a lot cleaner than the neighbouring towns that we ventured to on a few evenings. There was plenty to do in the evening and the only downside was the locals pestering us night upon night even after politely saying no thank you they continued to pester us which did get quite annoying.

Hotel:
The hotel was very nice and was kept very clean. The staff were all really friendly and were happy to help with anything, and all of them spoke really good English. The reception staff were particularly helpful for local information and were available to arrange taxis for you. The entertainment at the hotel catered for everyone but if you wanted to opt out and relax you still could as it mostly happened in one pool during the day.

Tour Operator:
Cannot fault the service. However, booked a trip that got cancelled at the last minute with only a note in our pigeon hole the same day as the trip, meaning that we were waiting to be picked up for an hour before we found the note tucked away-we were not happy! This was also annoying because it was our last night and had made sure we had enough money to last us, but we then had to change up more money for that night and then could only receive our refund in Tunisian dinar which we had to then queue to change at the airport and had to pay commission. It was not very fair.

Comments:  One week before the holiday I was a bit sceptical; I had read mixed reviews about the hotel and had heard bad things about Tunisia in general from random family friends.

So I was pretty nervous on the transfer from the airport to the accommodation as you can imagine! However, I was so relieved when we got to our room-it was fab!

We stayed at the Kanta Residence for one week and I cannot fault it at all! The room was fantastic; always clean, and very spacious, with free air conditioning which was an added bonus as I was expecting to have to pay for it.

The hotel is ideally situated; only 2 mins from the beach and the resort centre but far enough away for it to be quiet. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, the reception staff were especially helpful as they all spoke very good English and were more than happy to share local knowledge of the area.

There were plenty of daytime activities situated at one pool aimed at both children and adults, however there was also a quieter pool if you just wanted to relax which was perfect!

The resort itself was very pretty and the only annoyance was the locals trying to entice you in to shops/restaurants whenever you were walking around but it's how they make a living so it was to be expected.

Port el Kantaoui was perfect for a relaxing holiday and we were so glad we chose to stay there rather than other resorts. We ventured in to Sousse one evening and absolutely hated it! It was very busy and dirty and not a very enjoyable evening.

The only good thing about it was the market where we got some bargains, but overall we definitely preferred staying at Port el Kantaoui!
