great hotel
from outlook
just got back from this great holiday on sunday 6th of august. hotel was great. clean and comfortable. hotel staff were lovely, very friendly, food was excellent, a lot of variety, coudn't fail to please, poolside was very clean, rooms were spacious and maid service was every day. tuk-tuk to the beach was an experience, but very useful. the sun beds on the beach were a bit crowded together, but otherwise ok, the lads on the water sports were very friendly and polite, (funny at times) the reps night was a great night out and not to be missed, the trip to Monistar was a waste of time and money, if you like looking at carpets for two hours and have a man bore you to death then this is the trip for you!! the berber night left a lot to be desired also, it was organised chaos, and a waste of time, the sunset boat trip was good, the skipper tried to entertain you as much as he could and he worked his little butt of Bless him, the food was abyssmal though (on this trip) the high light was the Camel Trek, Defininately not one to be missed, 4 hours of camel riding, and some wonderful bread to eat made by the locals as you watch them, the lads on this trek were also very friendly. The walk round the marina was very interesting if you do not mind being pestered all the time, and being touched quite often. Over all this was a truely GREAT GREAT holiday, and I would most definately go back, one of the best holidays we have ever had, and cheap to say the least.
What an excellent trip!

I arrived back from holiday yesterday and after staying at hotel Kanta i can deffinately say it was a brilliant and memorable trip that i'll certainly never forget! The staff were friendly and did not hesitate at any point when someone had a problem to make sure that they were satisfied and fully cared for! The food was great, and catered for a variety of people there was certainly enough choice with breakfast, lunch and dinner. The pool looked great although i didnt stay by here as i preferred the beach there was a huge majority of guests who used the pool facilities! Id recommend this hotel to anyone its a safe, exciting and fantastic area to be positioned in and complete with brilliant decoration and furniture! I will be visiting again theres no doubt about it! 10/10 for me!
a lovely hotel
from EMMAX
my husband, our 3 year old, my mum and myself came back from the hotel kanta on saturday. we stayed there for a week, two would have been nice now we are back! it was a lovely hotel, our room was huge{ family rm im sure - 116) my mum had a nice room too, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, the bed was more comfy than mine here! we went to beach using the tuk tuk which was fine. we saw a few small jelly fish so had a very cautious swim!beach felt a tad crowded the umbrella wew slightly too close together but prob cus i was up and down with daughter!! so most days were spent around the pool so our daughter could play in the childrens pool, go carerful though it can be a tad slippery by the steps into kids pool. i did water aerobics most mornings which was great fun! the guy i thought looked like a thinner peter andre! we usually had a pizza or salad for lunch, in poolside restaurant or a waiter can bring u a sandwich around the pool too, dinner in eve was very nice , pasta , rice, veg. 3 courses- buffet or sometimes waiter service for the middle course. breakfast was lovely too but as i hate cooking in uk it was fab not having to do any cooking! we would spend the eve strolling around the port , as u go in, there is a great juice bar to the right. along abit near to the pirate ship/ neptune guy! that was our tenth visit to tunisia and another lovely holiday!
Nice clean room
from philb320
I went with my wife, we booked the day before going there - initially through the Lastminute website - just got back from a week's half board there. The hotel is in a nice part of town, really does have lovely gardens with palm trees and flowers and so on, and our room was very clean with a usable balcony and good bathroom. Unlike any normal international hotel or even the most humble british bed and breakfast, there are no facilities for making your own coffee/tea in the room. The hotel pool is great but it's too hot, so best to go to the Kanta's private bit of the beach which is about a 500m walk, or you can catch a little 3-wheeled shuttle thing which takes 8 people at a time from outside the front door. At the beach there is a bar and sunbeds, and a lovely cool breeze! And paragliding etc. The beach is great, and really that is what we went there for, just for a rest, so from that point of view it was perfect. At the beach bar, we found that one pizza and a salad shared between two was enough for lunch. However, the food at the hotel wasn't particularly good, and after a couple of days we started going out for food. It is only a short walk to some very good restaurants, mainly Le Mediterranee and La Dourade in the nearby marina - these are quite expensive (excellent though) - but the cous cous restaurant in the main square is also quite good. This is one good point of the Kanta Hotel as at least you are not forced to eat there! Port El Kantaoui and the marina is like a sort of disneyland arab town, so if you want to experience arab culture there, forget it! All the shops there are full of tat, although having said that, a lot of the pottery was very cheap and very nice. We went to the Medina in the nearby town of Sousse, and that also seems to be full of tat! Watch out for men who pretend to be waiters at your hotel - they work in pairs - as you get off the bus, one man finds out which hotel you are staying at, then the next one pretends to be a waiter at that hotel and gives you a guided tour of the Medina to one of his relative's shops where it is very difficult to get out without paying for something you don't want! One obvious thing to do here is to tell the first man the wrong hotel so you can spot the accomplice. If you want to get wine or spirits, go to the Magasin General just to the right of the entrance to the marina. If you love beer you will be sadly disappointed by your whole time in Tunisia! The cocktail bar in the Hotel Kanta is ok although it probably needs to be redecorated! Sometimes they have a piano player there who is good if a little bit eccentric at times! They also have entertainment at an outside stage, some of which is is cringingly awful, some not quite so bad!
Superb hotel, very clean, very nice
from Danster999
This is quite simply a very nice hotel. Rooms are kept very clean. Food is ok, although can be a bit samey. Pool area is lovely, really nice. I haven't really got a bad word to say about this hotel. 4 stars but could quite easily be 5 stars. The staff can't do enough for you whether it be collecting your bgas, or pouring you drinks, or walking round the poolside offering you drinks. Highly recommend this hotel, and Port El Kantouri is lovely 2.
Hotel and Staff are Really Friendly but Protect Yourself From Ear Infection
from BigBhoy
The Hotel is lovely and in a great location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is a bit samey but always found something to eat and enjoyed what we had. The Pool bar is excellent value and good for Pizza and snacks. Tipping is anticipated but not compulsory. It is hard to spend your budget unless you want shoes and handbags or leather jackets but the shop staff in the town can be a bit of a pain. The Reps are great for advice. Most people who played water polo with me ended up with severe ear infections and at least one was not allowed to fly home. I blamed the hats they used for the water polo teams which were left damp and with the heat and not being washed or boiled the infection passed round almost everyone. Reps say they claim the pool water was tested. That said the doctor who attended was excellent and wish we could get that kind of response back home. I have a ruptured ear drum now though frrom the flight back home caused by the infection which I would not wish on anyone. The weather was great when the breeze came from the sea but when it changed and came from the Sahara it jumped from 33 to 48 Centigrade for a few days. We didn't try any trips but the Tuck Tuck and noddy train was entertaining and taxis were 10-12 Dinars to Sousse. The golf course has some lovely holes especially the 17th on the Panorama.
absoulutly fab!!!

just returned from two weeks at the kanta, couldn't fault it.people so helpful and friendly.i loved it.not much to do of a night time if your looking for a nightlife you'll not find it here, although we did visit the hotel nightclub which i'm sure would be good if more people used it,only about ten of us!! food was fab,no complaints and the waiters so helpful and friendly. pool area was great, loads of beds and waiter service all day was just great, didn't need to move from bed.life guards all day every day which i thought was great.
Fantastic holiday
from limericklady
Me 21 and my partner 23 stayed here for 2 weeks.I had previously read really nice reviews on various websites and found it really lived up to them. Ideal location, staff great, minutes walk to marina, food very good, rooms spacious and spotlessly clean. Entertainment every night, belly dancers, African night, Indian night, Karoke etc.. Train called TUK TUK to beach every five minutes outside hotel (Tuk tuk is great experiance in itself ) the decor was very arabic in style and we really liked it. You don t come to Tunisia to see european decoration. there was a small fountain in reception with fresh flowers floating in water everyday. All the hotels we saw seemed to have the same type of mosaics and style. Marble is everywhere in Kanta and other hotels it must be really cheap in tunisia as we got a marble fireplace and we are still in debt for it rooms very spacious and lots of wardrobe space. Bathroom and shower very good. Beds in Tunsia seem to be two singles put together. In kanta and desert hotel it was like this. Food very good lots of choice. breakfast wide array of choice, croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, eggs omlettes, cereals, doughnuts, crepes. Alot of choice Orange marmalade was the best I ever tasted. Coffee, tea and 6 types of different juices available. the juices varied from day to day. Really fresh. . Lunch ok only did it twice waiter service. Dinner was very good. starters great, soup delicous. There were 2 buffet nights a week eg Italian, Tunisian. Then most other night you were given a choice of four meals and if you didnt want the choice there was a small buffet to choose from instead. You can see the meals before you order which I prefer as I am quite fussy and if there was nothing I wanted I just selected things from buffet. meat was well cooked and hot. Desserts were really good crepes, cheesecake, tunisian biscuts, chocolate shaped bunny and elephant cakes, profiteroles, mini doughnuts etc list was endless and changes every night. The hotel caters for British, French, German, Eastern europeans and Scandanavians. there was always enoughfood for everyone. You d never starve here!! Selfcatering is also available in kanta which is ideal for famillies. though the hotel was mainly for couples and was very few children and teenagers. We were in conservatory and non smoking which we really liked. We were set next to a lovely couple from yorkshire and we used to have such a laugh with them in the evenings. So the seating arrangments worked out for us. You can sit wherever you like for breakfast. First week was fairly quiet but there was definately more people on the second week as high season is just starting. The best thing about this hotel has to be the beautiful gardens and huge pools. Always loads of sunloungers on both pool and beach. Would highly recommend this hotel and resort

Just got back from Port El Kantaoui, Kanta hotel. I was slightly suprised to see the very high ratings of previous travellers. I would agree with most of their comments but I have had better food and service at other hotels so felt unjustified giving it a full five stars. The hotel is for an older crowd (few families) but me and my husband found everyone friendly and a good level of service. Most importantly, everywhere is clean (although decor a little dated). Food was generally good but not much choice at breakfast, and one or two of the set meals were of a lower standard - but I can't complain cos we got it at a really good price. Overall, a very good hotel for this type of resort / country. Port El Kantaoui is good for a relaxing break if you dont want to do much (exactly what we wanted). You do get hassled in the marina and we got dragged into shops a few times and its hard to get out of them again, but you cant blame them for trying!! Also, watch out for the non-alcoholic beer in the cafes. Only places that sell wine / spirits sell alcoholic beer. Our friends got through 6 pints and wondered why they weren't getting drunk!!
We are long stayers at the Kanta & l have to say that under the circumstances they are doing well, We are all aware of last years revolution & things have been very hard for all Tunisians, things will improve if you disregard all the bad publicity & actually visit the... more
