We had four nights at the Wyspianski in November, flying from Bristol with easyJet. For a 3-star hotel we were pleasantly surprised with the Wyspianski.
The hotel itself looked a little 'tired' from the outside when we arrived but really just needed a refreshing paint job. Inside it was spotless and had been tastefully 'modernised'.
The room was spacious and very comfortable indeed. We would have appreciated an English-speaking news channel on the TV. Staff were always pleasant and helpful and the room was always replenished with free bottled water, whether we drunk it or not!
The breakfasts had a reasonable amount of choice each morning. They weren't the best but we certainly managed to fill ourselves and the restaurant itself was very spacious, clean and had a welcoming feel to it.
We had one evening meal in the restaurant but, to be honest, it was just as cheap - if not cheaper - to eat out in the Old Town and there was a lot more choice.
The beautiful Old Town centre of Krakow was within 5 minutes easy walk across the road from the hotel and we experienced a good selection of bars and restaurants where food and the wonderful Zywiec beer - indeed ALL Polish beer - was extremely cheap.
A good meal and a few drinks was costing us around £10-£11! We had arrived late in the day so our first sight of the Cloth Hall and its surroundings in the Main Square were bathed in wonderful romantic lights and there are many 'underground' restaurants beneath the street level around the Square, which are fun just looking for and trying somewhere different each day.
Local transport was equally cheap, and the main train and bus station was only ten minutes easy walking away. There's no need for taxis because there are trams frequently and they go everywhere.
Getting to and from the hotel to the airport was very easy and effortless. It costs just 80p by the new shuttle train each way.
On our last day we took a day trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial site which only cost us 14 zloty for a return journey by bus. That's less than £3!
We usually have two European City Breaks a year and overall this has been our favourite one to date. We've earmarked it as a 'must return soon' destination.

A comfortable hotel with clean spacious rooms to a very good standard. The breakfast is reasonable but there is a lack of variety with the bread.
One down side is that the restaurant and bar are run separately from the hotel and therefore you cannot charge to your room which can be a pain in having to carry money /cards around the hotel. They also have a habit of booking up all tables in the restaurant for parties with no advanced warning to hotel guests. Thus stopping guests from using the restaurant.
Not very good when it is raining and you then have to make alternative arrangements. The waiters are also very rude and abrupt, this could be their culture but not nice.
