relaxing by liv :-)
9 / 10

My family and I recently holidayed at the Lomo Blanco, I have been away loads of times before, but have never felt as relaxed and safe as I did here, the staff are really nice, and Jimmy, who runs the bar and restaurant, is a great character , making everyone welcome. The food was very good,as was the drink and cocktails. I would have no hesitation in going back.

  • Holiday details: Aug 2011, Room Only, booked with flexitrips
  • Advice: if i was going again i would stay beside the pool all the time, and not bother with the beach

amazing holiday!! by Eleni

me and my boyfriend have just returned from lanzarote and we stayed in lomo blanco, we honestly couldnt fault it in any way except that there is no air con but you can rent fans. we had a brilliant time the staff were all friendly and really helpful. you never seen any of them without a smile on their face!! we never experienced any bulgary or break ins, none of the others staying there did either. we stayed for 1 week and were half board, the food was lovely and they did have a set menu but if you didnt like any of it the staff would offer you something else or what you would like. the hotel isnt that far from the beach and yes the hill is steep but its over in no time. my legs feel are thankful too it! :D overall i couldnt fault the hotel an we are booking to go back next year for 2 weeks! we had a brilliant time and cannot wait to book it xxx

Burglary by Burgled
1 / 10

We stayed at Lomo Blanco for 14 nights. The apartment was VERY basic. And very insecure, not the kind of security you'd expect at home in the UK. The reception staff are very rude to the point of being obnoxious and uncaring.

There were not enough sun-beds and we spent our holiday hoping everyday there would be one by the pool but others got up at the crack of dawn to reserve them, and then didn't bother to use them all day.

The entertainment consisted of a basic quiz, a good reptile show and bird show and a terrible drag act. There was also Karaoke.

On out 11th night we were broken into and burgled. This was apartment 129 in block A. They got in and out through the insecure but locked window at the back of the block. We were ground floor. The security guard was rude and unsympathetic. He called the police who refused to come out. We made a police report and the translator told us that this is a VERY regular happening in Lomo Blanco.

Fortunately we had used the safe (which we had to pay 40 Euros to have for a fortnight) for passports and credit cards etc. Another couple had their credit card and money stolen the following night, this time the thieves rifled through their clothes to get what they wanted. The safe was not big enough for the laptop, but that was hidden in the room and wasn't taken luckily.

The rep' was sympathetic and offered to move us to another room in the same hotel which we considered hopeless as we wouldn't have felt any more safe in any other place once that had happened. We didn't sleep for the rest of the holiday. Had to sleep in shifts and carry the laptop everywhere because we didn't feel safe.

The worst thing was that all of the hotel staff just couldn't have cared less. We received no comment from them at all which was horrendous. They completely ruined our holiday. Lanzarote itself is simply about profit and not about people, if you want a good holiday do not bother with it. We are saddened by the whole experience.

  • Advice: Thieves operate in Lomo Blanco it is not a safe place to stay.

Theft by Boots
1 / 10

We had our room broken into tonight. Small valuables stolen everything important was kept in the safe. Security man refused to phone the police even though a drawer was opened and left open so there would have been finger prints the window was also left wide open and so would have prints. Security was very unpleasant couldn't have cared less that we have been violated. It doesn't matter how nice a place it is if they are awful at a time lIke this then don't stay here. We kept things in the safe as instructed so they only got minor things but the fact that the staff were useless deserves this review. DO NOT STAY HERE

Fun holiday for the family by LynnandRuby
8 / 10

We enjoyed our stay at Lomo Blanco. The staff were friendly and everyone spoke English. The pool was clean and I never had any problems finding a sunbed. The beach was only a short walk away, and hill wasn't that bad(honest). We were self catering, and the local supermarket is only a short walk from the apartment block. All in all we had a very pleasant time of it. I was impressed with the bus service up and down the coast too. I thought the trip round Timanfaya National Park was expensive, but afterwards we all agreed it had been worth every penny. My daughter loved the camel ride! It gave us all a laugh.

The only down side to our holiday was a meal out at a restaurant called Puerto Bahia, an expensive restaurant in the old hardour. The service was dreadful and we waited for what seemed like an eternity for both our starter and main course. When I complained to the manager he took great offense and was very rude to us and virtually threw the bill at us saying we were not welcome in his restaurant again. I've never seen such mad manners in my ife. He was obviously having a bad day. But he shouldn't take it out on his customers. It ruined my evening and for a couple of days after that we were very reluctant to eat out again. I thought after all this time I could look back and laugh, but I still can't.

We have recently arrived home from fab holiday in Lanzarote. Both me and my partner could not find a fault with the accommodation. The staff were always friendly and i was a really nice place to stay. The pool area was beautiful and very clean. We would both definatley stay there again. Make sure you put your towels on the sunbed early in the morning as you could be left dissapointed.

I recently got back from the lomo blanco apartments with my sister and a friend. The was no entertainment at ALL in the apartment apart from some guy with a guitar who was not all that. A few nice restraunts near, However the rooms were tidy at most of the times. Some of the staff were friendly but others looked like they didnt want to even be there. Very nice resort was hot but quite this time of the year.

Returned yesterday from Lanzarote and... by The Jarvs
9 / 10

Returned yesterday from Lanzarote and Lomo Blanco apartments and have to say we were very pleasantly surprised by the island and the holiday overall. Having heard people referring to Lanzarote before going as "Lanzagrote" we had our doubts, but just wanted a family last minute week away in the sun.

However it was far from being poor. As the island is quite small Puerto Del Carmen is only a 15 minute transfer from the Airport in Arrecife. The flight was about 3 hours 30 mins from Gatwick, but have to say Thomas Cook has the worst legroom of any flight I've ever been on, so fealt a much longer journey.

The Lomo Blanco apartments are in a great position between New and Old town Peurto Del Carmen, about 5 mins walk to the beach and 10 mins walk to the good restaurants and bars in the Old Town/Harbour area. All the staff at the Lomo Blanco were very friendly and helpful. The apartments were very clean and spacious and adequately equipped cutlery, toaster, pans, plates, glasses etc.. No Aircon, which wasn't a problem as the night's were quite cool, but may need to hire a unit in summer months. TV rental was 10 Euros for 4 days and reception had 2 Internet PC's which was 1 Euro for 10 minutes. Maids came in almost every day, bedding and towels changed twice during the week.

The whole place was very well looked after and very clean. Pool area was a nice size to keep an eye on the kids, the loungers were in a very good condition although the water was feezing. Not bundles for the younger kids to do apart from playing around in the pool, but this is what kids like the most on holiday, so not really a problem! We were self catering so did not eat at the apartments, but the food looked okay of what we saw, but possibly a bit of a limited menu. Evening entertainment at the Lomo Blanco was basic, but again we did not really see to much of this, aimed more at the kids really. The only small issue we had was with the bath. which was pretty worn out, but the shower was good, so no need to sit in it and bathe and the rest of the bathroom was fine. Lomo Blanco is rated a 2 Star, but I would say it was nearer to 3 star.

The New Town clubs, bars and restaurants are about 15 mins walk in the opposite direction of the old town, but seems abit overun with Brit and Irish bars and English "chips with everything menu's," although there are a couple of great spanish places, Lani's just before the Ruta 66 bar/grill is good.

Many people have commented about "cardiac hill" and the long steps/downhill walk to the centre. However the reaility is that the steps that lead from the Lomo Blanco (out of the apartments turn left and go 50 yards to the corner of the road) to the little super market are not that steep or very long at all and there is a ramp running parallel for wheelchairs/pushchairs, although this could be a struggle coming up again. "Cardiac hill" is at the end of the road past the little supermarket by the car rental place.

* Tip: Go and see the young girl in Plus Car, very helpful and friendly and knocked 40 Euros off the price of our car for the week!

The hill is steep, no doubting that, but is very short and the beach is at the bottom across the road, you can't miss it.

* Tip: Try to avoid going in the electrical shops, which seem to be everywhere, the goods are fake rubbish and the owners don't leave you alone. There's lots and lots of "tourist" shops, so cross over for a nicer walk along the front. Lanzarote is famous for being windy, so can get a bit chilly at night during April, but daytime temperature's while we were there were between 24 and 30 degress.

We ate out every night in the Old Town/Harbour area and if you like seafood or steak the world's your oyster! Every place we visited was very good and although the menu's are very similar, there's a lot of choice.

* To get there: Come out of Lomo Blanco, turn right to top of road, turn left and follow road around keeping right until you get to the round about, walk down the hill past the Bioshpere shopping centre on your right.

One of the first restaurants you get to is Bodega & La Cascada Puerto (joint owned), which you must visit. Very popular and the queue can be onto the pavement, but quickly seated and superb food. 3 course meal for 4 with drinks about £75.00. Walk further down and around the corner to the Harbour area and there's a row of good sea front restaraunts. Casa Roja (good seafood) and Puerto Viejo (good meat) were a couple we would recommend. There's a great music bar with big screens that plays old and new live rock concerts and sells a large range of cocktails next door to the Heiniken bar, good night out, kids are welcome. There is also Casa Cabana an English owned/run restaurant just a bit further on past the main old town in more of a residential area. Very good food and surroundings, can be tricky to find, but worth it! Call them (Kim or Jeremy) before you go as can be very busy: (0034)626 724713

Must vist: Timanfaya National Park to see the volcanoes and lava covered landscape, the visitors centre is free, about 20 minute drive from Puerto Del Carmen. Peurto Calero is also worth a quick visit to sit and look at the big expensive yachts over a cold beer. This is the posh part of Lanzarote and being developed all the time. Expensive big name boutiques are set back from the harbour GANT, Boss, Ralph Lauren etc for good window shopping. This is also the place the Submarine and Catamaran excursions go from. The biggest shopping centre is in Playa Honda apparantly. Also take a visit to Playa Blanca around the south coast from Peurto Del Carmen, it has a small beach and seafront restaraunts set in a horsehore bay amongst others.

**DO NOT VISIT**: Aquapark in Costa Teguise.

The place is a dump and very expensive, 22 Euros Adults, 18 Euros Kids, + lounger hire. Where do I start..............??? Number one it's almost impossible to find, no signs or anything, wish we hadn't bothered trying so hard now. It's very small and to be honest I think the rust was holding most of the flumes together. The pavement is very sharp and where it's tiled, with wet feet very slippery! Kids were cutting there feet all over the place. The pool was dirty with bits of rubbish laying on the bottom, tiles coming off and black mould growing between them, the loungers are dirty and some broken, the slides were okay, but the plastic coating was coming away and a bit rough on your back. There were no seats on the toilets at all, a section of what used to be little gift shops were boarded up and on one of the Lazy River rides there was a total of 6 rings, in fact I counted 20 rings in total for 3 main rides in the park and there were about 250 people trying to share them and the park was only a quarter full at most. The handful of life guards were pitiful and could not care less about safety although felt the need to blow there whistles every 2 minutes!! Enough ranting, just avoid at all costs!

My overall impression is Lanzarote is a good family holiday destination, with almost gauranteed sunshine off peak and the Lomo Blanco Apartments are very well situated, but possibly not ideal for the elderly. Highly recommend getting a hire car and go exploring it's a great island.

One final tip: Avoid Arrecife centre if driving it's like a maze, take the ring road (la Circunulacion) if possible.

I've just returned from lanzarote and... by M Flood

I've just returned from lanzarote and the lomo blonco appartments were just perfect for us. The appartments were very spacious and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. These appts. are situated right between the old and new town of porto del carmen. There were two beautiful pools, one heated. There was entertainment most nights if you did not want to go out. There was food available all day so you did not have to cook., and it was very cheap --a full breakfast cost 3.50 euro. Food on the island is cheap but drinks are the same as Ireland prices, unless you drink local beers.

Just back from my 3rd holiday in... by C Connor
10 / 10

Just back from my 3rd holiday in Lanzarote, always stayed at the Lomo Blanco and have never had any complaints about the cleaners, bar staff or recepition staff I have always found them to be very helpful. This holiday was a girls holiday for my 50th Birthday and as my friends knew I liked the Lomo Blanco they booked there, (me being the only one of us ever to have stayed there) and all of the other 5 were very impressed with them too. one of the girls and her husband and two children are going back again in May with my husband and son and myself but all 5 said they would return again at some time with their families. Everyone keeps talking about the steps up and down to the strip, you don't have to use any steps if you don'd want to, you can go down the steps in front of the Colony Club and then down cardiac hill but when you come back from the strip pass cardiac hill with the Fariones on your left and walk pass all the shops to the end of the strip follow the shops all the way around staying on the same side of the road, up a slight hill pass the eldorado apartments on your left and cross at the crossing turn right and follow the road around and it will bring you back to the Lomo Blanco. A much better way of doing it and a nice walk too, only about 10 mins from the end of the strip and if you don't want to use any steps just go out that way too it also bring you to the Biosfera Shopping Cen. Turn right out of Lomo Blanco and left at the top of the road.
