Kracking time in Krakow

These apartments are located in several building throughout Krakow. We were a little anxious about this as we had never visited Poland before and wondered were we might end up.
The apartment was a short walk from the centre of Krakow on Gertrudy Street (gallery apartment 5a)and was excellent. It had been recently refurbished and we really couldn't have asked for more.
There is a really excellent restuarant next door to this apartment and a supermarket too. There are lots of restuarants in the town centre offering a wide range of cusine- some more expensive than others. If you look around you can have a beautiful meal for a couple of quid- great place- great people.
The catherdral is lovely and I love visiting the cloth hall in the centre of the town square- you can get lots of craft items at low prices. Its much nicer and better value than many continental markets that visit the UK over Christmas.

  • Advice: Just lovely

Un-Welcome to Poland! Don’t get me...

Un-Welcome to Poland!
Don’t get me wrong because there are some very good aspects to Poland, my wife and I have just spent 4 days In Krakow, in a self catering apartment which was fantastic, It cost us £120 for the whole stay, and the accommodation was superb.
The feeling I got though form pretty much all the locals was Un-welcome to Poland, try as we did to speak the language and conform to there life styles, we found that 90% of those people we had to interact with were rude, brash, arrogant and ignorant.
To the point where we had people pushing in on us in queues on more that one occasion, being totally ignored, and try as I might to put on a big smile and be polite we more often than not got short sharp and dare I say it rude answers to our questions, be it museums, churches (yup them too) train stations, and food outlets, although we did meet one lovely young lady in the grill in Krakow market square who restored or faith in humanity, for an hour at least!
Don’t expect a great deal of help when travelling further afield, we planned one of our days to see Auschwitz, which went to pot as soon as we bought the tickets thanks to an unhelpful ticket agent lady, who sent us to the wrong platform!
Don’t get totally disheartened, We did meet some very nice people, but be prepared because it can be very hard work getting anything from these people.
I was told that the UK Booze/Stag do culture has tainted their views on Brits, but all I can say is don’t tar everyone with the same brush.
Come on Poland, your on the up and up, a smile and a laugh wont hurt, your not being repressed anymore learn to live again!

Excellent Easy Jet flight from Luton....

Excellent Easy Jet flight from Luton. Old Town Apartments picked us up at Krakow Airport and took us direct to apartment just off Rynek Square.
Very good accommodation with small supermarket next door and tram stops outside and opposite. Bought tram tickets from kiosk next to apartment! Rynek Square is full of excellent restaurants - incredibly good value too. Trip to Auschwitz is a must - use a guide to get the most out of the visit though. Plenty of walking involved so wear comfortable shoes! We booked a visit to the salt mines but the bus forgot to pick us up - money reimbursed with no quibbles however from Old Town Apartments. Used trams or walked and saw more that way.
Walked round Wawel Castle, Kazimierz (former Jewish Ghetto) and the later Jewish Ghetto across the river Wistula where Schindler's factory was. Also took tram out to Plaszow where Amon Goeth's camp and factory was and visited the Jewish cemetery. Worth a tram ride out to Carrefour also as everything so reasonably priced - we had to pay excess luggage on the return journey as we bought too much!
My limited Polish was useful but English is widely spoken in Krakow, with English versions of menus, etc. Booked flights and accommodation via internet - no problems.
