Value for money
6 / 10
Aug 2011, TimEnt

The Lito is quite basic but boasts an excellent position on the sea front (although seperated by a very busy road).
The hotel is occupied by mainly non-UK residents and the pool area was usually very quiet and the poolside bar was very rarely used. This is probably because they only offer 2 choices of food that are on the menu, toasties and chips. I didnt think you could go wrong with chips, but they were horrible and dripping with oil.
The decor is very dated and the rooms are basic, but you do get value for money. My room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked a cliff with grubland, so I did'nt go on to the balcony once.
Breakfast was continental and i used to make sandwiches with the ham cheese and bread, for my lunch.
I didnt have many dealings with the staff so I wont comment either way on them. But my room was restocked with towels and cleaned daily, which was impressive.
GOOD POINTS - Hotel position / value / free wi-fi / cleanliness / quiet /
BAD POINTS - Busy road / pool bar food/ main bar not open / decor / view from the rooms at the back of the hotel / pool area too shaded by trees.
Overall, i probably wouldn't stay here again, but it was value for money. I don't think id go to Ixia again really, found the resort to be quite expensive and all the restaurants and bars are directly on the busy main road.

Lovely Island - disappointing hotel
4 / 10

My boyfriend and I went to Ixia for 10-11 days at the beginning of August this year.
We arrived at Hotel Lito and immediately I had a bit of a gut feeling that this was not going to be how I had imagined it. Straight away we thought it was dead - no one at the bar and no atmosphere. We had to then trek up alot of steps to get to the main reception, which was difficult with heavy suitcases and the heat even at 10pm. The nights are noisy in the hotel as you can hear absolutely everything aka slamming doors and drunken people.
The reception staff were not very friendly and they came across rude most of the time. The elderly couple who I assume own the hotel, sit on the top of the steps and they are just as unfriendly. You smile at them and get nothing back.

Breakfast is continental as we thought it would be, but it is basic and boring as it doesn't change throughout the week. And if you are thinking of having lunch/dinner all there is, is a bar run by one guy who arrives late each day and whose food I wouldn't exactly trust.
Pool area is nice but sometimes difficult to get beds - it lacks total atmosphere though.
Main positive is that it is a clean hotel with new towels and bed sheets every day. We didn't pay extra for our fridge although other people have said they did. Make sure you buy mozzie repellent of some sort.
The overall Island is beautiful - Ixia beach has a wonderful breeze and if you meet John on the beach (he owns the sun beds for the Belair hotel) then you will get chatting to him and get free fruit! Also if you go left out of the hotel then head on down into the main area for dinner - we recommend 'The Coconut' restaurant, food is fantastic and cater for all, the waiting staff are brilliant and so friendly and the overall atmosphere is fun.
We also took trips to Rhodes Town by bus which is 2 euro pp and only a ten minute bus journey. From there you can get busses to Faliraki (2 euros pp) and Lindos (4.50 euros pp), where we also went. We recommend you visit Lindos especially - it is just beautiful but not the place to stay as it is quite far from Rhodes Town.
Overall a wonderful island and brilliant part of the island to stay which I am sure we would sometime return to, but if you want a hotel with atmosphere and friendly staff, we suggest you do not stay at Hotel Lito!

Lito Hotel, Ixia, Rhodes

The hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming and, although a little old-fashioned, we found no cause for complaint with our accommodation. However, there are 14 steps up to the reception entrance which were a problem as I use a walking stick and were a definite obstacle when arriving/leaving with a suitcase. When you reach the top step, there is also a planter on either side that you need to negotiate around. From the reception area, there are 16 steps down to the 'breakfast room' without a proper handrail. However, if you push the basement button on the (one) lift, it takes you to behind the breakfast toom next to the kitchen and toilets and avoids this problem in a morning up to 9.30am. From the breakfast room, there are patio doors leading to the pool and outdoors but these are closed after breakfast has been completed so you cannot use this method to avoid the steps for the rest of the day/evening. The pool area was well-maintained but as it was a ladder into the pool rather than a series of steps I couldn't take advantage of this facility. After an evening out, we would sit on our balcony watching the floor show of the Hilton Hotel next door whilst enjoying a glass (or two) of wine but beware of the mozzies!! Turning out of the hotel entrance to the right, there are a few good restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. Turning left, you have about a 10 minute walk to the main stretch of restaurants - would thoroughly recommend Demetrios - and we also found a branch of Sigma Travel here where the lady was very helpful and the prices cheaper than booking through the rep. We booked an off-road Jeep safari here which was the most fun-filled trip we had during the fortnight we were here - Christina and Carolina who led the safari were definitely wacky and knew their stuff. No butterflies left in the valley of the butterflies in the last two weeks of September and if you decide on the trip to Symi get on board early as all the seats at the side of the ferry get taken straight away so you could end up staring at fellow passengers instead of sea views. The little train around Rhodes town is good value and lasts about an hour. It starts and finishes at the theatre in the square behind Mandraki harbour.

I found the hotel to be very welcoming and staff helpful particularly as I arrived at 3am.
Breakfast as a buffet type had a good choice of food. The pool was cleaned of leaves and wind debris each morning I was there. It was a very busy main road adjacent to the hotel but my room was a little protected by its location during the night. Clean room and simple but agreeable.

Oct 2008, Mr I PHILLIPS

The hotel looks as if it had been built in the 70s and there it has stayed. Although it was clean and tidy on arrival, it is in dyer need of a face lift. Towels and sheets were changed daily, but the bathroom was not cleaned very well and our drinks glass were left on the side unwashed. The brochure said that the beech was just across the road, which it was but it was full of plastic bottles and other washed up debis. The beeches get better if you walk towards Rhodes town but these are a good half an hour away. There are shops and restaurants close by, but again if you want better quality you have to walk. Turning left out of the hotel and a 15-20 minute walk will get you to some descent bars and restaruants. Look out for Eddies bar Run by Eddie and his wife Caroline. The drinks are reasonably price and they are both very friendly. Rhodes old town is well worth a visit but food and drinks can be very exspensive. Two brandys and two coffees cost us 19 euros in one bar. Not a bad holiday over all but I won't be making a return visit.

we found olympic holidays well organised and our rep sara was very pleasant, hotel lito was very clean PLENTY OF FLUFFY WHITE TOWELS WHICH WERE SWAPPED REGULARLY (THE CLEANERS WERE VERY PLEASANT AND CAME IN EVERYDAY THEY WORK REALLY HARD) and had a lovely pool, plenty of sun loungers and table and chairs around the pool.we liked the breakfasts served between 7am and 9.30 our 3 ever hungry children (aged 13 10 and 7) experimented with the variety of foods on offer, crusty cobs, croissants, jams, biscuits, boiled eggs, fresh melon, sliced peaches in juice greek yoghurt, fresh sliced tomatoes, olives, feta cheese, cheese slices, ham (these last 2 were processed but not bad) cornflakes (only cereal ) very hot baked beans (TOAST WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO GO WITH THE BEANS) plenty of fresh milk, orange juice, grapefruit juice, chilled water, tea, coffee. breakfast was well organised everything was constantly being replenished, dining area was very clean plenty of tables you could even take your tray outside and eat around the pool, as the patio doors were usually open.
we had a back view which was disappointing but were not in much anyway, Rhodes town is lovely, very interesting, but thought a little pricey. my girls bought little leather purses as gifts for their friends which were 1.70 (euro) in the local shops surrounding hotel, but in Rhodes the same ones were 3.50 (euro).PLENTY OF PLACES TO EAT but the *posh * restaurants were a bit pricey (obviously we as a family of 5 had to watch the pennies) WE LOVED FBI AND THE CANTEEN which was the burger van across the road on the beach was very good value for money AND A LOVELY SEA VIEW!!
THE DAY BEFORE WE LEFT we discovered a beautiful place called SUMMER BREEZE call in for a drink you wont be disappointed (they also do meals) they have a lovely pool where you can stay all day and lovely comfy loungers and sofas. go out of hotel lito turn RIGHT KEEP WALKING ABOUT 10 MINS THERE IS A TAVERNA ON A CORNER AND A SMALL ROAD THE SIGN FOR SUMMER BREEZE IS JUST THERE GO UP THE ROAD ITS ON THE LEFT (REALLY RELAXING). THERE IS ALSO A LARGE DISCO WHICH IS OPEN AT NIGHT.
THE BEACH WAS LOVELY BUT DISAPPOINTED THAT THE SUNLOUNGERS WERE 3.50 EACH.EVERYBODY SEEMED TO BE CASHING IN.
BUT ALL IN ALL WE ENJOYED IT.THE CHILDREN HAD A FEW FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH AND THERE WERE SOME LILOS IN THE POOL WHICH THEY LOVED.
THE DOG WHICH EVERYONE SEEMS SO WORRIED ABOUT WAS A BIG HEALTHY LOOKING SPECIMEN IT HAD PLENTY OF FOOD / WATER AND A KENNEL (I THINK IT WAS A GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG) WHICH ARE USUALLY KEPT AS GUARD DOGS AS THIS WAS. I ONLY HEARD IT BARK WHEN THERE WAS A DELIVERY OR IF A STRANGER WAS ABOUT.
IT WAS KEPT ON A VERY VERY LONG CHAIN AND COULD MOVE ABOUT VERY FREELY IT WAS GUARDING THE LANE AT THE SIDE OF THE HOTEL AS THIS WAS OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND LED TO THE KITCHENS AT THE BACK (ANYONE COULD BE PROWLING ABOUT AROUND THERE ONLY FOR THE DOG) THE MAIN ROAD WAS VERY BUSY SO IF IT HADNT BEEN TIED UP IT COULD HAVE GONE INTO THE ROAD.
IVE SEEN MUCH WORSE ANIMAL SITUATIONS IN THIS COUNTRY.
ALL IN ALL WE HAD A GOOD TIME.

Aug 2008, Mr PP Halpin

I can only agree with the comments below me although I must say I found the reception staff at the hotel very pleasant to deal with. The general level of noise in this hotel is quite high...what with the busy road...the slamming of internal and external doors all day and night and the racket coming from the Hilton next door....and not to mention the poor dog tied up in the alleyway next to the hotel barking its head off at all hours. Unfortunately 6 young Danish men were put into the three rooms next to us half way through our holiday and caused complete havoc...I can only think that it was their first trip abroad without their parents. The noise that they were making was totally out of order...howling like animals until half three in the morning as drunk as lords. I asked them myself to keep it down but to no avail...once aware of the problem the hotel management soon tackled it though...after two sleepless nights! One of the boys informed me after they were given their final warning that he thought I "Wasn't a very nice man"...made me chuckle anyway!!! We never did eat a meal in the hotel after seeing the "Chef" nearly dropping the fag ash off the end of his cigarette into the deep fat fryer!|! The breakfast wasn't to our tastes, there are a few bar/restaurants serving full english breakfasts nearby though...turn left as you leave the hotel and take a five minute stroll to the FBI bar as we did most mornings and you will be given a warm welcome! The air conditioning is switched off in the rooms between 1200 and 1600h...which I thought was a little strange...but all you have to do is ask or phone reception and they will turn it back on if you fancy a siesta!! All in all its a cheap and cheerful place and makes a good base for travelling around. Phil

Have just returned from a very relaxing chilled out week in Ixia. We had no complaints about the hotel or the resort but purely for information:
Hotel Lito is a very basic, clean, spacious hotel. Lovely pool with plenty of sunbeds, nice pool bar, eating space and inside bar which was open on the evening. The only downside to all of this was it completely lacked atmosphere. When we arrived we thought we were the only residents. As the week went by we saw more people but still there was no atmosphere. The staff although helpful had no personalities. The poor barman, Dimitri, who ran the bar on an evening was literally on his own from 8pm until 3am. We saw two people in there the whole time we stayed! Breakfast was a very basic continental offering which we had only a couple of times. If you need somewhere just as a base it is absolutely fine but don't expect entertainment, discos or company if you want to stay in for a drink! (Oh and it was very sad to see the owner's dog just tied up outside all day and night although it did have a kennel.)
The beach was literally a stones throw away but across a very very busy main road which in the rush hour could take you up to 10 mins to cross. Once across, the beach was great with plenty of sunbeds at just 3.50 euros per day and the breeze was an absolute godsend. A 5 min walk into Ixia took us to some lovely bars and restaurants which served some nice food and drinks all about the same price. I would say the only downside to this resort is the extremely busy road.
Rhodes itself is a very beautiful island and we particularly loved Lindos and Rhodes Old Town and harbour. Would definitely return to Rhodes!

Sep 2007, Mr M Sheils

Just back from a fortnight at The Lito Hotel, Ixia.
The hotel should not have been rated 3 stars. The welcome was non-existent. Staff very unfriendly. The steps to reception were dangerous to say the least and were not disabled friendly. You were just left to take your luggage up and down the steps with no help from hotel staff or holiday rep.
The hotel is situated on a very busy and dangerous road.
The room was adequate and the breakfast was boring.
The Olympic rep was unhelpful.
Would not recommend this hotel to anybody and will definitely not be returning.

Sep 2007, Mrs S Mitchell-Smith

We have just returned from 2 glorious weeks in Ixia. Having read reviews about the Lito Hotel we were quite prepared for the worst although I have to say it was no where near as bad as we were expecting - you get what you pay for! The Hotel is basic but my view is if you are on a budget holiday then as long as there is a clean bed, shower and somewhere to hang clothes then that's fine. The Hotel is certainly clean, if not a little dated. I agree that the breakfast does get a little monotonous especially if you are there for 2 weeks.
Ixia is a lovely resort and the beach is good, a constant breeze which made the temperatures (46 when we were there) bearable.
We enjoyed the night life in Ixia and had some very nice meals at various restaurants. The old town of Rhodes was enchanting both day and night.
We went to Lindos for the day although lovely am very glad that we didn't choose to stay there for the 2 weeks. I would certainly return to Ixia.

Very basic hotel - 70s style decor (orange pine on walls!) Road noise as next to main coast road which is never quiet! Air conditioning, fridge and safety deposit box quite expensive so be prepared to pay in Euro currency up front on arrival if you want them.
Rooms very clean, cleaned daily, towels changed every day, sheets changed frequently. Staff are brilliant, nothing too much trouble, they helped us with baggage delay when Libra Holidays were useless.
Seen the moans about breakfast on this site, well if you go abroad you get continental breakfast - DOH! If you want an English breakfast find a cafe! We enjoyed the many choices of food on offer at breakfast.
You have to go off-site for entertainment, nothing at the hotel, although they advertise a cocktail bar it doesn't look very welcoming and most nights there were hardly any customers or none at all!

You get what you pay for, and I think the 'Lito' could be alot worse. The breakfast is not great, we only bothered twice. And the steps up to reception are a drag. BUT it is fantastically clean, I've stayed in 4*'s that were not as gleaming as the Lito.
You do have to pay for air con but it's very good, not noisy. You also have to pay for fridge, so after all coats you maybe better off up grading to a better hotel where these things are free.
The beach across the road was good, not to busy and clean. The road across was busy but next door at the Hilton there is an under pass which is easy to use, so that’s great.
Rhodes old town is fantastic go on a Sunday when not all the shops are open and the locals are out and about. It has a lovely old feel to it. Faliraki is not to far either 15 km. we had a hire car so we went a few times.
On the whole we had a great holiday the sea was warm and clean, we never so a cloud all week and nothing bad happened. Ixia is a beautiful place to watch the sun set over the sea, with Turkey just visible in the back ground. I’d go again!!!
